Sam Qox says that when he gets baak to
Congress he shall defend Gen. Uutler, and
especially his militury career, and do it in
the words of the classicpoet:

The total vote cast by the three States of
Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana, at the
October election, reached the enormous fig
ure of 1,512,094. The same States, at the
Presidential election in 1864, t;ast only 1,-
024.084 votes; so that in four years the num
ber has increased 188,010.
The New York Times tells of an angry
Irishman iu the Tenth Ward who brought a
door on his baek 44 tin blocks,” with his cer
tificate of citizenship pasted too tenaciously
upon it, and asked the election inspectors,
44 Will that please you ?”
The latest humbug in Vienna is a school of
trained goldfinches, which a woman has
taught to draw numbers from a bowl. All
the superstitious lottery ticket buyers go
thither for an augury, and the owner of the
finches is reaping a harvest.
The New York Times declares that if the
rejection of the electoral votes of Louisiana
and Georgia was necessary to secure General
Grant s election, the Senate would reject
them. Of course they would.
California has yielded $90,000,000 in gold
and silver in ten years.
Mexico, in three centuries, has produced
$3,500,000,000 iu silver bullion.

On reading the foregoing petition (for direction and
discharge from their trust), it is, on motion of Frank
H. Miller, solicitor for the petitioners, ordered that aU
parties holding claims against or the bilis of said
Union Bank, lately doing business in the county of
Richmond and State of Georgia, do present the same
to the said John Craig and Charles A. Rowland, as
signees of said Bank, within six months from the date
of the publication of this order, or be forever debarred
from any participation in the assets in the hands of
said assignees to be distributed: and that at tha expi
ration of said six months the said assignees shall dis
tribute and pay over the assets in their as as
signees. after deducting commissions and expenses to
the creditors, who shall then have filed their
pro rate, according to their legal priorities; and upon

said assignees shall be forever discharged from all re
sponsibility for said trust.
