colored population in Brunswick, as will be

On the evening of the 17th inst, Mr. U.
Dart, Jr., discovered fonr American citizens
of African scent with a dead poker of his in
their possession. They had their gnns and
had evidently been on a raid. Mv. D. gave
chase and they skedaddled. He however
succeeded in capturing one Edward Beese.
Two others, Bobert Merchant and Dick, both
| from St. Simon’s Island, jumped into a boat
and made their escape. Henry Bryant, the
remaining gent, didn’t remain long, however,
bnt took to the water in fine fish style, bnt
owing to a want of swimming capacity, foun
dered. He is supposed to have been drowned.

of concession and confidence, rebuild and re
establish, on the only foundation of mutual
consent, the fabric of onr national liberty.
As will be seen by '-the article which we
published yesterday, the proposition is fa
vored, by. leading men of the Bepnblican
party. It js sustained by 1 Jndge Nicholas
with argument which cannot fail to convince
eveiy candid, patriotic man. The subject is
one whoefejises above all party considera
tions, and appeals to the judgment of every
lover of-his cduntiy. It i* an appeal to the
bead and heart of the American people,
which no true friend of the liberty, peace and
prosperity of bis country can reject.
Bow at Qoithan Conni HocBB.-Winle.the
Superior Court was in session at Georgetown,
Qmtinan county, Ga., on .Tuesday morning
last, a citizen approached his. lather who was
in the Court Hpuse, and spoke in rather a
loud tone to him, as he igjdeaf. The Judge
hearing the noise and seeing.the parties fined
them one dollar each. After the court ad
journed for dinner, the young man approach
ed the Jndge, and after some words,-assailed
him. They were separatedheforo much dam
age was done,: and the-Jndge ordered the
Sheriff to snmmon a posse to arrest the assail
ant. The Sheriff could find none .willing to
aid him, and the order of .the Judgg was un
heeded. After the court assembled, tin* Judge
fined him hi the sum of~$'200 and.to he im
prisoned. for twenty days, / As the;assailant
had threatenedto shoot thq^first man. that laid
hands on him, the arrestq*as not niiide. , ..?

tember 27, contain important additional news
regarding afiairs in Paraguay. Besitez, toe
Paraguayan Minister of Foreign Affairs, who
conducted toe correspondence with Wash-
bdhse, has been himself arrested and im
prisoned by Lopez on a charge of treason,-
and his office is now filled by Senor Carmtsos.
The latter has written a very long letter to
Mr. Washbuhne, in which occurs toe fol
lowing:

public afiairs in Paraguay, in ceasing all cor-

The examination has resulted in the conclusion that
Hie sample contained no poisonous or harmful admix
ture. I have been unable to discover any trace of the
deleterious substances which are'employed in the
adulteration of liquors. I would not hesitate to use
myself or to recommend to others, for medical pur
poses, the Schiedam Schnapps as an excellent and un
objectionable variety of gin.
