Captain McCullough, of the bark Margaret* Evans, (Br) reports that he left the North Channel on the Oth of October last; that on October 13, had a heavy blow from W S W, which shifted suddenly to S W; on the 15th had a strong gale, with very heavy head sea; at 3 o’clock a m, a terrific gale with tremendous, squalls and very heavy sea; at 6 o’clock am, a heavy sea cs, 300 to tho trade; 26,680 for export, and 26,100 on spec- illation. To-day. toe market is steady -without being atrong. Sales 16,000 bales. ' ,, The stock of American cotton has been taken today and declared to be 47,870 bales, or 29,630 bales over too estimate. Wo see by Meadows, Frost A Co.’b circular, dated Liverpool. Nov. 6, x868, that the estimated stock of American cotton lias been misrepresented. With quite a number of arrivals, there is na diminution in freight offerings. We see no reason to look for a de cline in liyuber and timber- freights, but with the large quantity offering and few vessels on the way unchartered, an advance would seem more iikely. Several coastwise and West India freights have been placed during the week at Northern ports, but few vessels -arriving unchartered, and vessels are still wanted. Rates coastwise are a shade firmer.
