English statisticians tell ns that dnring last year there‘were 2,513 vessels wrecked on the -British coast, and that 1,333 lives were lost 'with the vessels. In one month, December, 326 men went down. Out of the total num ber of vessels lost last year, 1,551 were en gaged in the coasting trade. It is stated by the same authority that upwards of five hun dred vessels were known to have been lost from absolute unseaworthiness.
