In the registration the whites had less than fifty ma jority, bat in the election 'the Democratic Mayor, with the entire Democratic' Board of Aldermen, was elected by over one thousand majority, which, making an allowance foiWie hundred or more carpet-baggers and scala wags in the city, shows that fifteen hundred to two thousand colored votes must have been cast for the Democrats. This result, so mor tifying and disastrous to the Badicals, cannot be attributed to “fraud,'violence and intimi dation"—the usual cry of the Badicals after defeatr-Aaioth parties bear testimony to the * fact that the election was fairly and orderly conducted—the scalawag organ admitting that “the citation passed off, so for as we are informed, in a quiet and orderly manner, and was, no doubt, .conducted as fairly as elec tions are usually conducted in Georgia or elsewhere.” Under these circumstances it is not sur prising that the Badicals, who see in this overwhelming defeat in the very hot-bed of importance has transpired with reference to the “Im peachment business.” On the 25th, the opinion of the Supreme Court was rendered on certain questions propounded by Gov. Reed. One of these questions was, in eff«t, “ whether or not the Legislature, at its extra session, was legally and constitutionally or ganized?” The Court unanimously sustain the Governor, and pronounce the whole “impeachment"> as illegaland void, arguing that the Senate had .no quorum inconse quence of a majority of the" whole nnmljer of Senators not being present, (which is re quired by the Constitution,) and deciding, from thence that the Legislature was not' legally organized. In this connection the scalawag editor who, in announcing the triumph of the Badicals in the election of General Grant, displayed at the head of his column the picture of a negro fiddler, now poors out his lamentations un der the cat of an inverted rooster, and, de serting his late negro friends as corrupt, unreliable, and'unworthy of the franchise, appeals to Yankee Doodledum to come to the rescue.
