Cotton.—The market opened to-day with fair in
quiry, though much caution, was used by buyers, who
took such lots as could be had at comparatively small
figures. Advices from Liverpool report the market
dull; 8 P. M. advices from New York, dull and nomi
nal, middlings 24#c. Our market closed quiet, with
middlings at 23@23#c. The following were the sales
for the day: 1 bale at 35c. (Dickson's improved); 16
bales at 23#c.; 17 at 23#c.; 78 at 23c.; 133 at 22#c.;
178 at 22#c,; 12 at 22#c.; 69 at 22#o.; 39 at 22c.; 5 at
21 #c.; 11 at 19c.; 4 at 21c. Total sales 653 bales.
Sea Islands—Market dull to-day; sale of one bag

The receipts to-day amount to 3,394 bales.
•Financial.—Gold, buying at 134; selling at 137;

4>acon.—The demand for bacon has continued good
athigh figures caused altogether by a great scarcity in
thfe market Many of our dealers are declining to
buy, except to fill orders, awaiting the decline to come
.when new meats are thrown on the market We
quote shoulders at 14#®16#c, rib sides at 17
@17#c, and clear ribbed at 18#®18#c. There
are few clear sides offering; and prices are
nominal at 18#@18#c. Hams are’.in large stock,
at 10@18c according to quality. Breakfast bacon
is quiet with a downward tendency, at 19@20c. Dry
salted meats are in better demand. We quote shoul
ders at 13®13#c; short dear sides, 17@17#c; short
ribbed, 16@10#c; bellies, 16#@16#c. and Stratford
cutatl6e. -
Floub.—There has been a slight decline since our
last report The stock on the market is large, and the
demand light, The feeling in Northern brands
since our last report is somewhat depressed.—
We quote Northern superfine, $6 60@9; extra, $9@11,
and family and fancy, $12@13 00. Good Georgia and
Tennessee brands are in fair demand at $10 50®11 60
for superfine, $12®13 tor extra, and $12 60®13 50
tor family and fancy.
. Grain.—The stock of Georgip and Tennessee old
com is very light and demand only for home
consumption. New com is coming in very

Capt Morton, of the steamship Gen Barnes, reports
that on Friday dight last, enoountered a very severe
gale from the S E, accompanied with terrible sea,
doing some damage, washing away paddle-boxes, wa
ter closets and guards. Capt Morton states that he
has not seen such a wild night for many years; made
the run, from her wharf in New York to Cape Hatter-
as in 28 hours, and' from Frying Pan Shoals to the
wharf at Savannah in 15 hours.

now exhibited from the'lighthouse recently erected
on Bustard Head, on the N W point of Bustard Bay,
east coast of Australia*
Also, that the lighthouse' on Olacolomi Point, en
trance of the river Maranham, coast of South Ameri
ca, has been destroyed by fire.
Also, that the wreck of the ship Leichardt, in the
Thames entrance, being dangerous to navigation, a
vessel showing a fixed white light has been in conse
quence moored about ninety fathome to the eastward
of the wreck, and .will be kept there until farther no
tice. The vessel with the warning light lies in five
fathom aat low water.
* Also’, that the' wreck .of the barge enterprise, near
Calshot Light Vessel, south coast of England, is found
to be dangerous to navigation, and that a Spar Buoy
has been fixed to the foaat of the wreck, from which a
white anchor light" will be exhibited as long as the
