T !IE morning news at twenty-
five CENTS PER. WEEK.
We have recently systematized and brought into
operation the old plan-of weekly subscriptions to the
P.uly Moeninq News, and within the past few weeks
0 ar circulation, under this plan, has largely increased.
We desire to place the Moenino News in the hands of
every Mechanic, every laboring man, and every per-
g0 o of intelligence ; and knowing that tnere are many
w bo cannot afford to pay five or ten dollars right out
0 f pocket for a six month’s or a year’s subscription,
*•110 would not feel the expenditure of twenty-five
cents per week, for a daily newspaper, we have insti
tuted the plan, and engaged Mr. H. C. Merritt to at
tend to that particular .business. Persons in any part
of the city who desire to tak8 the Moenino News, at
wen ty*five cents per week can give their names to
him, or by leaving them at the office, they will b$ at
tended to. Collections will be made every Saturday.

t 5 comply with the wishes of parties residing
at the above named'points, and grant them a
public road by means of which they will be
enabled to travel back and forth without be
ing forced to use the road of the Thunderbolt
Shell Head Company. Commissioners will
be appointed to survey and mark out the pro
posed road, to be opened from the head of
Lever’s Lane to the four-mile post on the
Skidaway road. This road will be a great
public convenience, and as parties directly
interested in it are commissioners of public
roads, they will doubtless see that it is kept
in order. * When this highway shall he open

prefer to come free can also be accommo

The Mooning News in Southern Geor
gia.—The subscription books of the Savan
nah Daily, Tri-Weekly and Weekly News can
always be found at the office of Dr. T. R.
Warden, where this attentive gentleman is
ever ready to receive your name and money
for one of the bast papers published in the
Empire State.
The citizens of Bainbridge and Decatur
c maty are greatly indebted to these Savannah
papers for their active efforts in behalf of the
extension of the Atlantic and Gulf Railroad
to this city, and the interest they have ever
shown in the development of the resources
of our section of tfre State,
We mention these facts 03 an act of justice
to our able and highly appreciated cotempo-
raries, and would remind our merchants and
piasters, as well as our business men gen
erally, that they should, to the extent of their
power, secure for these papers a circulation
throughout this entire region of the State.—

The Theatre.—There was a larger audience
•t the Theatre last evening than was expected,
owing to the inclemency of the weather. The
Irish Drama—Kathleen Mavourneen—was re
peated with great success. The play is one
which “takes” with the public, and Mr. and
lira. Watkins never fail to make a decided
hit in their respective roles.
This evening Manager Gilbert will pro
duce Trodden Down, or Under Two Flags.
We hope that the weather will be fair, and

fort will also be provided for the lawyers, re-
? porters, Ac.; a new and convenient desk for
the Clerk, new stoves for the court and ante
rooms, and other provisions made for having
the room look neat and in proper condition
for the pniposes for which it was intended.
The spectators’ gallery will also be cleaned
out, repainted, and pnt in order. The law
yers are expected tp furnish their own desks,
and save the county that expense. We hope
that they will ail purchase neat furniture of
this description, to be in keeping with the
appearance of the rest of the furniture.
We are glad to see this work in operation-
The Court-room has long been in a disgrace
ful condition, and the whole building is' about
in keeping with it; but, as the county cannot
afford to build a new one just now, the old
place should be made to look as respectable
as possible. The City Council should now fit
up the City Court-room, which resembles an
old barn, full of cobwebs and dirt.
Brevities.—The city was in the close em
brace of a heavy fug all Monday night.
Naughty city.—Day before yesterday was dis
agreeable, and yesterday was made after the
same pattern.—The police were marched to
the City Exchange and paid off yesterday
morning.—At a meeting of the Philadelphia
Anti-Slavery (?) Society, held last week, Mrs.
Mary Grew offered a resolution calling upon
Congress to punish the terribly < rebellions
white citizens of Georgia, and place the “man
and brother” where he would be secure from
the tyranny and oppression of the white man.
Pity Mrs. Mary Grew could not have been-
witii the party of special police, on,Thunder-
bolt road, last Saturday night week. We
think she would have slightly grew out of her
opinion of the tenderness and gentleness of
the “man and brother.”—The. Boston Post

EiiBE# Day.—To-day is one of the fasting
days of Obligation ill the Catholic Church,
being one of the Ember Days for the winter
season, Friday and Saturday next being the
others. On these days all Catholics are en
joined to hear Mass at least once during the
day, unless hindered by sickneis or other ne
cessity.
It is also the day assigned in the Calendar
to the honoring of the memory of St. Euse
bius. one of the Bishops of the early Church,
who snffered martyrdom.
Not Injured.—Mr. William Bowdoin, Ex
press Messenger on the Atlantic and. Gulf
Hoad, was not injured in the accident-which
occarrecl near Jacksonville on Sunday morn
ing, as stated in the Morning News yester
day. The report came from Jacksonville, and
hid every appearance of reliability. Mr.
Bowdoin had left his car a few minutes pre
vious to its being smashed up, and escaped
v»itb a few scratches. Three cars were
wrecked by the accident.
