Cotton.—The market opened with a good inquiry
—market has been very regular, factors unanimous in
their quotations. Advices from the North and Liver
pool being favorable, caused much more firmness than
was shown yesterday. Market closed quiet but firm,
with middling at 23#c.
The following wer^the sales of the day: 23 bales at
24c, 23at 23#, 96 at 23#, 181 at 23#, 298 at 23,15 at
23#, 102 at 22#, 27 at 22#, 59 at 22#, 36 at 22, 11 at
21#, 66 at 21#, 78 at 21#, 6 at 21, 6 at 21# and 1 bale
at 20c. Total, 1,124 bales.
Sea Island.—Inquiry light—sales: 3"bags at 55c, 4
at 60c. Total, 7 bags.
The receipts amount!*) 1,578 bales.
Financial.—Gold, baying at 135; selling at 138;
New York exchange buying at # to #c off; selling
at # to # ^ ct. off. Sterling blila in demand at
145#. \
Bacon.—The demand for bacon has continued good
at high figures caused altogether by a great scarcity in
the market Stock on hand very light, and figures firm.
We quote shoulders at 14#@l5c, rib sides at 17
@17#c, and clear, ribbed at 18#@18#c. There
are few clear sides offering, and prices are
nominal at 18#@18#c. Hams are in large stock,
at 10® 18c according to quality. Breakfast bacon
is quiet, with a downward tendency, at 19®20c. Dry
salted meats are in better demand. We quote shoul
ders at 13@13#c; Bhort clear sides, 17@17#c; short
ribbed, 16®16#c; bellies, 15#@16#c, and Stratford
cut at 16c.
Floub.—There has been no change since our
last report The stock on the market is large, and the
demand light The feeling in Northern brands
since our last report is somewhat depressed.—
We quote Northern superfine, $6 50@9; extra, $9@11.
and family and fancy, $12®13 00. Good Georgia and
Tennessee brands are in fair demand at $10 50@11 50.
for superfine, $12@13 for extra, and $12 50@13.50
for family and fancy.
Gkain.—The stock of Georgia and Tennessee old
com is very light and demand only for home
consumption. New corn ip coming in very
slowly and in small lots—demand light We
quote Georgia corn $1 10 from depot; and scarce;
Tennessee, $1 10®1 12#, and. small arriva s—old
corn from store, wholesale, $1 25. * There has been
no change in oats this week; from depot 85®90; from
•tore, $1 00.
