physicians, including all the leading practitioners in
the United States, for purpose* of cxpcrlinen. A
circular, requesting a trial of the preparation and are-

thousand of the moat eminent medical men in the
Union promptly responded. Tbcir opinions of the

liquors of commerce, ell of which were more or lee#
adulterated, and therefore unfit for medical purposes.
The peculiar excelenc* and strength of the oilofjuni-

tho Schnapps, together with an unalloyed character ol
the alcoholic element, give it. in the estimation of tbs
faculty, a marked superiority over every other
diffusive stimulant as s diuretic tonic and restorative.

bout the same for other crops, it is clear
hit a railroad passing through a town would

ouo hundred dollars per acre is equal to

It might be supposed by persons unacquainted with
the daring character of the pirates who prey upon the
reputation of honorable merchants by vending delete
rious trash under their name, that the protections no
carefully thrown around these Schnapps would have
precluded the introductions aud sale of counterfeits.
They seem, however, only to have stimulated the
rapacity of impostors. The trade mark of the propri.
tor has been stolen; the indorsement which his Schie
dam Aromatic Schnapps alone received from the medi
cal profession has been claimed by mendacious hum
bugs ; hia labels and bottlea have been imitated, his ad
vertisements paraphrased, hia circular* copied, and
worse than all, dishonorable retailers, after disposing
of the genuine contents of his bottles, have filled them
up with common pin. the moat deleterious of all
liquors, and thua made his name aud brand a

The public, the modical profcaaion and the sick, for
whom the Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps in prcscrib
as a remedy, are equally interested with the proprie
tor in the detection and suppression of these nefari
ous practices. The genuine article, manufactured at
the establishment of the undersigned, in Schiedam,
Holland, ia distilled from a barley of the finest quality,
aud flavored with an essential extract of the berry
the Italian juniper, o {unequalled purity. By a process
unknown tu the preparation of any other liquor, it is
freed from every acrimonious and corrosive element.
Complaints hsvo been received from the leadin
physicians and families in the Soutkem Stntn oi the
sale of cheap imitations of the Schiedam Aromatic
Schnapps in those markets; and traveller*, who are in
tht habit of using it as an antidote to the baneful in-
.fluence of uuwholesome river water, testify that aheap
gin, put up in Schiedam bottles, is frequently palm<
off upon the unwary. The agents of the undersigned
have been requested to institute inquiries ou the sub
ject. and to forward to mm ths uaiues or suen partf
as they may ascertain to be engaged in the atrocious
system of deception. In conclusion, the undersigned
would say that he has produced, from under the hands
ot the most distinguished men of science in America
proofs uusuawcrable of the purity and medicit
cell cues of the Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps; that li*
has expended many thousand dollars in surrounding
it with guarantees aud safeguards, which he designed

Deab Bib: Th# want of pure Wine* and liquors for
medicinal purpose* baa been long felt by the profes
sion, and thousands pf Urea hare been sacrificed by
the use of adulterated articles. Delirium tremen-.
aud other diseases of the brain and nerve*, so nfe in
country, are very rare in Europe, owing, in
greet degree, to the difference in the purity of the
spirit* sold.
We have tested the Several articles imported and
sold by yon. including your Gin. which you sell un
der the name ot Aromatic Schiedam ttchnappo. which
we consider justly entitled to the high reputation it
has acquired in this country; and from your long ex
perience as e foreign im)>orter.your Bottled Wines and
Liquors cboold most with th* earn* demand.
We would recommend you to appoint some of the
respectable apothecaries in different porta of the city
os agent* for the sale of Four Brandies and Wince,
where the profusion can obtain the same when need
ed for medicinal purpose*.
Wishing jou success in your new enterprise.
We itaota rear obedient servant*.
