EAST COAST OF FLORIDA—DISCOVERY OF A BHOAL.
Capt J Pennington, master of the steamer sun
Antonio, informs this office that off the coast of
Florida, on October SO, 1872, st il:3j a m, passed
iUf.de of a equal about two inllss m extvut, N
and S, and found ten fathoms of water close to
the shoal, which Is quite narrow. #Thers was s
medera.t* s a ell from the eastward, which broke
continually over the shoal, one part of which ap
peared ve-y shallow, w.th not more ihaa eight or
leu feet 01 water on it. It is situated shout 20
mile* M W (per compass) from Jujiier Inlet
L:gnthouse, and about five miles from shore.
Capt Pennington says he has been aware of the
existence 01 this shoal for some months past, os
on two previous voyages, during the nignt, the
w^ter shoaled very rapidly in this vicinity. He
believe* tne shoal to ee increasing rapidly.
