THURSDAY, JANUARY 14, 1875.
OUR CJESAR’S COMING.
Thunk heaven! We’re not as others are.
We’re free! Intone a loud hosanna!
Unto the skies let it rise—
What sound is this from Louisiana?
We have no wrongs to right; we may
Expend on old-world serfs our pity;
Denounce their sceptred tyrants. Ha!
What cry comes from the Crescent City?
Dree, while a sister State’s in chains;
While bayonets in her Senate glisten?
While we can hear the clank of chains
Upon our soil, if we but listen?
Aye, stifled cries of rage and pain.
And clanking sound of men in fetters,
Ushers another epoch in;
And Kings and Kai-.ers are our debtors.
Boldly our rulers show their hands,
They’re dropped their mask, they’ve ceased
their mumming;
jA.nd now at last even fool i can see
Our Cromwell’s come; our Cesar’s coming.
