General Remarks.—Trade the past week has
not been brisk, though it was as good as expected
at this season of tin* year. A few merchants
lrom the interior have visited the city and made
some purchase-*. The bulk of the trade, however
has Ik.* ii done on orJe *, and they are ou;y for
such gojd* as are needed for immediate con
sumption or for filling up sucks. The only
changes worthy of Lote during the week is the
declue in bacon and Hour. A few un mportuut
changes have also occurred which do not affect
the trade.
Naval Stores.—In the early part of the
week the market was very quiet, but later a good
demand sprung up for both rosin and spirits,
and the latter haa advanced l#c. since our last
report, and the market to-night closed firm.
Cotton.—The market opened quiet, but since
the middle of the week has been more firm un
der advances in controlling markets aud doses
to-nighi firm with %c. advance.
The following resume will show the tone of
the market aud the trausac ions for the week :
Saturday—The market was firm all day at un
changed prices. Sales 141 bales.
Monday—The market opened quiet at Xc ad
vance on Saturday’s quotations. Closed quieter.
Sales 103 bales.
1 uesday—1 b » market was very quiet, and busi
ness restricted on account of the inclement
weather. Sales 4" bales.
Wednesday—The market opened quiet and
unchanged, and at noon was reported irregular
with a slight advance on the middle grades.
Sales 12" bales.
Thursday—'The market opened firm, tolders
asking higher, and closed firm and nomina.ly
unchanged. Sales SI bales.
Friday—The market has been firm all day,
and quotations have advanced \c on all grades
above ordinary; closed firm. Sales 10 bales. _We
quote:

Sea Island.—This staple is entirely nominal
Nothing doing.
The receipts of cotton at this port for the past
week from all sources have been 1,456 baiee
upland, against 1,26* bales upland and 2 ba es sea
island lor the corresponding date last year.
The jiarticulare o4 the receipts have been as
follows: Per Central Railroad, 1,2!6 bales up
land ; per Atlantic and Gulf Railroad, 54 bales
upland : Augusta boats, 176 bales upland.
The exports for the week have been 97!
ba es upiaDd, moving as follows: To New York,
61S hales upland; to Baltimore, 149 bales upland;
to Barcelona, 204 bales upland.
The stout on hand at the c ose of the market
yesterday was 6,742 bales upland and 93 bales

year.
Rice.—The market for this grain has pre
sented ver, active features during the week, a’

These figures indicate an increase in the cotton
in sight to date of 61,205 hales as compared with
the J ame date of 1876, an decrea*e of 30,654 bales
as compared with the corresponding date of 1S75,
and a decrease of 233,33S bales as compared with
1874.
Bombay Shipments.—According to cable dis
patches received June 9th there have been 10,000
bales shipped from Bombay to Great. Britai i the
pxat week and 16,"00 bales to the Continent; while
the receipts at Bo nbay during this we**k have
been 31,000 bales. The movement since January
1st is as follows. These are the figures of W.
Nicol & Co., of Bombay, and are brought down
to Thursday. June 7:

From the foregoing it would appear that, com
pared with last year, there is a decrease of 18.000
bales this year in the week’s shipments from Bom
bay to Europe, and that the total movement since
January 1st shows an decrease in shipments of
33,000 oales, compared with the corresponding
period of 1876.
FINANCIAL.
Money Market—Easy.
Domestic Exchange.—The banks and bank
ers are buying sight drafts at 3-16% premium:
selling checks at 5-16% premium.
Gold—Buying by brokers at 104, and selling

Securities—Bonds have been strong. Central
Railroad stock is dull with a slight decline.
Southwestern steck is meeting its dividend
promptly aud closes firm.

Wilmington, June 13.—Spirits Turpen
tine—The ma kst opened firm at 2SH cents per
gallon for country packages, at which price
about 25 casks changed bauds. Later 183 casks
were sold at 29 cents, closing steady at that
figure.

and $1 50 for good Btrained. The sa'es re-
