supply of money U ample for the demand, but
the market Is rather unsettled owing to the
action of the national banks in retiring their
circulation. In stocks and bonds the mar
ket is Terr dull and quotations nrs
merely nominal. Some changes bars
taken place in quotations. There is a
good demand for .grain, and only a light
stock in the market. Bacon is steady and
prices hare not changed, and the demand e<*-
tinuem food. Flour is firm *t quotation# •*

has advanced *c. per pound. There is a fair
demand for coffee. The stock is ample and
prices have not chtngcd any. There
is a fair amount of business done in
dry goods, but business is about two
weeks later this year than last, owing to bad
weather. Considerable improvement is ex
pected during the next week or two. The
merchants are selling with a good deal of cau
tion to avoid making bad debts. The stocks
are full. The hide and wool market is quiet
pnA unchanged. There is n large stock of salt
on the market and prices have declined some.
The demand is not as good as it has been. To
bacco is rather quiet, and the prices remain
the same. The market is fairly stocked with
potatoes and the demand continues good.
Naval Stores -The market for rosins during
the week closing to night has been quiet. No
change has taken place in quotations, and the
market closed this evening steady. The sales
for the week were 2,061 barrels. Spirits tur
pentine have advanced during the week, and
most holders are asking an advance
of J* to 1 cent on present prices.
The sales for the week were Ml casks. Else
where will be found our comparative state
meat of receipts and exports from the Ist of
April to date, and for the same time last year,
giving the stock on hand and on shipboard not
cleared, with quotations at the dose of the
market to-day.
Cotton.— The market has been quiet for the
week ending to-night. The receipts are still
heavy, being more this week than last. The
sales have f Alien off some from the previous
week, but there was a legal holiday in
this week, which will account for the de
crease. The market closed this evening quiet
and unchanged. The following resume of the
week’s business will show the transactions
each day. and the quotations at the doee. The
sales of the week were 9,891 bales:
Saturday—The market opened quiet. The
transactions for the day were light, 1,421 bales
having been sold. The market dosed quiet.
Monday—The market opened quiet and un
changed, and did not vary till the close. The
sales were 1,424 bales.
Tueeday-The Cotton Exchange was dosed
to-day, it being a legal holiday, and no busi
ness was transacted.
Wednesday—The market opened at 10 a. m.
easy and unchanged. The tone did not vary
during the day, closing easy at quotations.
Thursday -The market opened easy and un
changed this morning. The sales for the day
were 2,096 bales. The market closed quiet and
easy.
Friday—The market opened quiet this morn
ing, and closed this evening quiet and un
changed. The sales to-day were 1,547 bales.

Ska Islands.—The receipts for the week were
271 bags, an! the sales 192 bags, tearing unsold
stock of 2,265 bags. The demand has been
limited, buyers not being disposed to go on at
the reduced prices. We quote:

The receipts of cotton at this port from all
sources for the past week have been 15,490
bales upland and 318 bales sea island, against
12,264 bales upland and 199 bales sea island for
the corresponding week last year.
The particulars of the receipts have been as
follows: Per Central Railroad, 13,214 bales up
land: per Savannah, Florida and Western
Railway. 1,537 bales upland and 280 bales sea
Island; per Augusta steamers. 391 bales up
land: per Florida steamers, 36 bales upland
and 105 bales sea island; from Satilla and
landings, 902 bales upland and 1 bale sea island;
a carts. 33 bales upland and 12 bales sea
id.
The exports for the week have been 8,265
bakes upland and 65 bales sea island, as fol
lows: To Baltimore. 604 bales upland and.so
bales sea island: to New Work, 3,5 9 bales up
land; to Philadelphia, 147 bales up and: to
Bremen, 1,971 bales upland; to Boston, 834
bales upland: to Havre, 1,400 bales nplead and
15 bates sea island.
The stock on band at the close of the market
to-day was 90,031 bales upland and 3,688 bales
sea island, against 64,252 bales upland and
1,454 bales sea island for the corresponding
date Inst year.
Rick.—The market for the past week has
been quiet. Holders are firm at present quo
tations. The sales for the week were 915
barrels, and the exports 1.347 barrels and K 8
as follows: To Philadelphia 21* bar
rels. to Boston 139 barrels, to New York 996

These figures Indicate an increase in the col
ton in sight to date of 973.827 bales as com
pared with the seme date of 1880, an increase
of 238,512 bales as compared with the corre
sponding date of 1879, aad an increase of 33,242
bales ss compared with 1878.

According to the foregoing Bombay appears
to show a decrease compared with last year
in the week's receipts of 6.000 bales, end a de
crease ia shipments of 7.000 bales, while the
shipments since January 1 show an increase of
17,000 bales.
FINANCIAL.
Mokxy Market.—The supply of money con
tinues ample for the demand, but the market
is unsettled, owing to the action of the national
banks in retiring their circulation.
Domestic Exchamox —The banks aad bank
ers are buying sight drafts at )4 per cent,
premium; selling checks at $4 P®* 1 cent, pre
mium, according to amount.
Sterling Exchange.—Sixty day bills, with
bills lading attached, buying at $4 78®4 80.
