These figures indicate a decrease in the cot
tou in sight to date of 122,201 bales as com
pared with the same date of 1881, an increase
of 428,212 bales as compared with the corre
sponding date of 1880, and an increase of 710.915
bales as compared with 1879.

According to the foregoing Bombay appears
to show an increase compared with last year
in the week s receipts of 4-3,000 bales, and an in
crease in shipments of 37,000 bales, while the
shipments since January 1 show an increase of
•297.000 bales.
FINANCIAL.
Monet Market —The money market is easy,
with interest at 8 per cent, per year.
Domestic Exchange.—’The bancs and bank
ers are buying sight drafts at 14 P* r cent,
premium, selling at }-4 per cent, premium.
Sterling Exchange—Sixty day bills, with
bills lading attached, firm at $4 82J4.
Securities. —The stock market closes quiet,
with ight offerings and few buyers.

markets continue to fall off, which is being
noticed by consumers, and the demand is
steadily increasing. We have to note an ad
vance of fifteen cents per barrel during the
week. We quote: Superfine, $6(0; extra,
$S s')®7 00; family, $7 00®8 00; farcy, $8 00®
8 50; choice patent, $9 50® 10 00; bakers, $8 00®

000 bushels, mostly hy sail from Philadelphia
and Virginia, and the movement out has been
