turpentine was lirm and advancing. There
was a pretty fair inquiry, and about 400 casks
were disposed of during the day at from 28

closing call it was firm at 30c for regulars
Willi sales of 100 casks. Eosin—The market
was quiet and unchanged. There was a good
inquiry for the better grades. The sales for
the day were about 857 barrels At tbe
Board of Trade on the first call the market

While traders of this market ol late have
been undoubtedly in favor of higher prices,
vet the situation was aurb that they stood
ready to sell again upon the llrl indication of
weakening. London. It is thought, did the
last of it* selling this morning, and there Is
unmistakable evidence that It was buyer tnls
afternoon, especially in i*t. Paul. Union Pa
cific, and Louisville and Nashville. Brokers
are beginning to report rousidersblc outside
purchases, and this aft ■■moon the upward
movement curried every thing before It. Mem
bers of the Chicago party ear that ih • market
responded 100 quickly to their efforts, and
there has been considerable selling for reac
tion But all the stock offered was absorbed,
and the idea of a material reaction ha-been
given up. lucre were free offsrlngs of stock
m tbe early hours, and quotations yielded
slight fraction*, but before noon the stock*
offered were absorbed and busing began
again, and tbe market responded quickly,
prices advancing steadily to ihe clove, and
final prices were at or near the beat of the

C. L. Green * Co.’s report says: “Con
siderable offering of June notices to-day had
a more or less depressing influence, and the
process of liquidation broke the market off
some 5 points. The offering, however, was
fairly met, aud before the close a slight recov
ery of tone was noticeable, with a steadier
feeling current. The new crop has been very

cables also reported a little more firmness in
foreign markets; some damage by the drought

good buying, causing tbe advance mentioned;
