The receipts of cotton at this port i rum all
sources for the past week were 824 bales of
upland and 1 bale sea island, against fi
ba es upland and no sea island for this
week last year.
The particulars of the refcelpts have been as
follows: Per Central railroad, 517 bales up
land: per savannah, Florida and Western
railroad, 7 bales upland and 1 bale sea
I-;amd; per Savannah river steamers, 300
bales upland.
The exports for the week were 771 bales
unbind and 2d biles sea island; to New York.

turpentine was irregular. There was a good
inquiry, hut the extreme views of holders
prevented much business. The sales for tile

Trade on the opening call the market was

The stock market opened this morning with
a more decided feeling in favor of higher
prices, more harmonious relations with Chi
* aco ami Alton serving to help speculation in
Erie, while extensive buying for London ac
count was also a factor in the rise in the
morning. Sterling exchange rales were re
duced on account of toe better supply of bills
* drawn against securities lately purchased in
this market, but the latter fact was lost sight
of when the market became too top-heavy to
suit the loaders, and pricos were let Mown
toward midday, the market sinking into its
usual midsummer dullness, until Western
Union was again taken hold of and lifted up,
the entire market following. The weak spot
of the market Was Lackawanna, which was
attacked from several different quarters at
once and dropped quickly over. One notice
able feature of the decline in this stock, how
ever. was the small lots traded in. The mar
ket finally closed dnll amt about steady. The
closing prices are generally a shade lower,
Erie preferred, however, being % per cent.

market to-day, but business was so light there
was no inducement to anv sudden or decided
movements. Heavy receipts here, and the
same conditions prevailing at larger primary
points, made fodders anything but suff in

The heat which arrived at Bahia Honda con
tained i men, 2 of whom died before reaching
the island.
