The Northern Lighthouse Commissioners
announce that there will be sounded from
Ailsa Craig, Firth of Clyde, in foggy weather
and snow storms, a Holmes siren fog trumpet,
with a blast of five seconds every three min
utes. Another f>g trumpet on the south
side has three notes—two high and one
low —witti two seconds interval between
them every three minutes The signal truin
tots are situated a longdistance from the ma

blades, and is worked automatically by ap

of two miles of piping, used for the convey
ance of compressed air. generated by a4O
