of rumors at the stock Kxchange to-day,

Green It Co.’s report on cotton futures says:
“it was a slow aud not particularly eventful
market, and the noticeable feature was an
under lone of considerable steadiness, f Jver
pool sent over fairly, encouraging advices,
and shorts were inclined to cover, while a
sprinkling of new buying orders increased
the demand slightly and gave a fractional ad
vance. which, at the close, was very well sus
tained, with light offerings, especially for the
next two or three months.”

Chicago. July 24.—The wheat market was
weak and lower to-day. The immediate

prices. The market finally closed at l%c un

tinuation of bad crap reports, but gradua ly

Shark Fishers Kind and Hoscnc a
Horse at Sea.
From th* fticktn-ond Oixixili h .
Cobb’s Island, Ya., July 15.—This
picturesque island, with its primitive but
whole-souled accommodations, can boast
an unusual number of visitors this sea
son. Kvery room is flllod, and the com
pany is in every respect a pleasant one.
There is now upon tbe islands stranger
whosa antecedents are entirely unknown,
and who is an object of great interest to
every one who visits Cobb’s. This
stranger was found at sea this week, and
is nothing less tbau a bay horse of
fair proportions and respectable
gait. lie was thus found and
saved: Mr. Sam. Mathews, a lishtr
uian of note here, was taking a party out
for a shark fish. When they had reached
the channel, just off Hone Island, which
lies about a mile southwest of this point,
they were astonished to see a large bay
horse standing upon a flat rot far off. Sail
was set for this wondrous object at soa.
and, while no little doubt was expressed
as 10 Its being anything but u sea horse,
too animal was captured, and proved to
be a real domestic horse of terra lirma.
The boat was beaded for lione island, and
tho horse readily swam tbe water 10
this point. lie was then led to the
bold inlet between that island and
this, and the dsubttul and difficult
task of swimming so deep a chan
nel was most admirably accomplished.
The great question in, Whence did this
horse, nine miles at sea from tbe main
land, cornu? Mauy supposed that ho was
lost from a vessel and found bis way to
‘these waters. It is now, however, ascer
tained that ho belongs to tbe I’nitfd
States government, and had been recently
purchased for the life-saving station at
Smith's Island (Cape Charles). The
hoise, which bud been turned out to
graze was.it is thought.greatly worried by
the flies wbioii infest these islands at cer
tain (Inn, ud took to the water. How
be reached the point at which be was
found, fourteen miles distant, by wading
and swimming, no one can over tell. The
remarkable tact yet remains, and the
horse, though sold to a speculative island
er for sls, Is still here in flue spirits
awaiting bis rightful owner.

AT KROUSKOFF'S
Mammoth Millinery House
It is always expected to find the most complete Millinery;
Stock, but this season excels it. The stock in line Spring
and Summer Millinery is immense, and we are retailing
on our first floor at wholesale prices, which is a saving of 3u
to 40 per cent. In other words, the patrons of KROUSi
KOFF’S pay no more for their Millinery than the samej
goods would cost to the largest retailers here.
It should also be considered that ladies are not restricted
in their selections to such limited stocks as are found elses
where, but can make their choice from an almost endless
variety of shapes in fine and medium grades—white, black,
and colored —for ladies, misses, and boys.
Our lines of Flowers, Tips, Plumes, etc., are in tha
same proportion.
Our Trimmed Hats, to look at them, would
you, and to price them would gladden the hearts of those wha
love to save their dollars. We continue the sale of oui
Ribbons at same prices heretofore.
