As was expected on ail sides, tho stock
market was dud and almost barren of news,
with very little life except iu Northern Pacific,
Texas Pantile and Heading, in which special
causes contributed to make these usually
qniot stocks active. Land sale negotiations
helped Northern Pacific, and the reports of
agreements between opposing interests aided
Heading. The opening this morning was
strong, first prices showing advances
ranging from %(ij% per cent., the latter for
Heading. The market showed some activity
In the early trading, and slight declines were
established except on Northern Pacific, hut
before noon dullness reigned and prices
rallied, a dull and fairly steady market suc
ceeding, winch continued until the lust hour,
when a decided upward turn took place, tlie
market finally closing firm at about the hc-t
figures of the day. The net result of the day's
operations is an advance of small fractions
for most of the active list. Sales 152,000 shares,

Green & Co.’s report on cotton futures says:
“Liverpool sent over a disappointingly weak
dispatch, the silver quotation was lower, and
crop accounts in excellent shape, and the
combination of influences that discouraged
the bulls and led to a break of some ten
points, with the feeling still tamo at the de
cline. Long cotton was unloaded with much
freedom. No new selling, except possibly on
the later months.”

settled in wheat to-day, and the market was
only fairly active. The market opened
lower, but rallied under good buying ; H r, fell
back %c, rose again, hut fell oil once more on
the publication of the visible supply report,
which showed an increase of 3,100,000 bushels.
The market finally closed, however, %c above
Saturday. Tho chid speculative interest
during the day centred in corn. The market
opened very irregular, prices varying %@i%c
over the closing figures of Saturday. Laige
buying orders were received, based upon re
ports of dry hot weather in the corn licit,
