The general tenor of nows received upon
the street to-day was favorable to higher
prices. The only adverse influences which
affbotod to-day’s market were a decrease in
the net earnings, as Shown by granger roads,
and reports of labor troubles in the Wesi.
The general disposition to realize profits not- (
withstanding the strong undertone shown by
ibe market, sagged prices off slowly through
put the day There were a few advances, bnt
they occurred in special stocks only, and fluc
tuations were confined among the usually ac
tive stocks to exceedingly narrow limits. The
statement that the difficulties betweeu the,
Pennsylvania and Baltimore and Ohio roads
had been finally adjusted failed to create even
a temporary effect upon prices, owing to tne
high rate prevailing for money. The market
closed heavy. Everything on the active list
except New'Jeri-ey Central, Consolidated Gas
and Canada southern is lower to-night. New
England loses Ug, Kansas and Texas, Louis

Green A Co.’s cotton future report 9avs:
’’New buying orders have been very limited,
and the market ruled slow all day. There
was, however, some indication that the room
short interest felt like taking profits to a
moderate extent, and that kept prices fairly
sustained, with a point or two gained. For
eign advices were a trifle irregular, with
much point, and the South still offered freelv,
with receipts commencing to overwhelm the
previously'shov* n deficit.”
