ble in its essences. Its first and prominent virtue
I is to subdue every vestige of infiamation, and then
' acts mildly and copiously as a diuretic ; thereby
j holding within itself, every requisite virtue, for
I the subduction of this loathsome malady—and ev
j ery regular graduate in medicine, will sustain the
assertion, that copious diuresis and reduction of in
flation, are the only two things necessary to effect
a sound and radical cure.
The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”
is in this, that wherever it alone has been used to
affect a cure, none of those tenacious and disagree
able consequences which almost invariably results
from the sudden cure of Gonorrhoea, have been
, known to obtain such as stricture, hernia, humor
alis, incontinence, and a swarm of other of the
I most loathsome, perplexing, and disagreeable dis
; eases, consequent upon erroneous diagnosis and
treatment of Gonorrhoea.
Those affected are requested to call and try for
themselves. If the prescriptions are well follow

returned.

TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
does not belong to the family ui quack medicines;

known to the faculty, or any one else that may

be made from the stalk, a thing not more aosuiu
than for one to offer meal from the corn stall;, to
1 say nothing of the difficulty of raising the i’omatq
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are ail that they
proiess to be. and will do for othcis what they
have done for such as mav have used them ; as
this is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the \ellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the 'ir.putine, or active principle, and when used
as a da.ly vegetable will be found to keep the
si stem in much better condition than the other
kind ; many will recollect with w r hat trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute, it has
; long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was if

I lhe preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
i they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,

day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a

Dll. E. SPOIIN, a German physician of much
note, having devoted his attention for some
years to the cure and removal oftheci uses of NER
VOUS AND SICK HEAD aCHE, has the satis
faction to make known, lha f he lias a remedy which
by removing the causes cures effectually and perma
nently this distressing complaint. There are many
families who have considered Sick Headache ncon
stitutional incurable lamiiy complaint- Dr. S. as
sures them that they are mistaken, and labouring
under distress which they might not. only alleviate,
but actually eradicated by the use >1 his remedy.
It is the result of scientific research, and is entirely
of a different character from advertise*.! patent medi
cines, and is not unpleasant to the taste,
HEADACHE, SICK OR NERVOUS.
The extraordinary reputation that Dr. Spohn’s
remedy for this distressing compaint is every day
gaining is certainly a matter of much astonishment,
That so m ich suffering should have existed for ages
w ithout any discovery of an effectual preventiv or
cure, is truly a subject of much regret but Dr. S.
now assures the public that such a remedy has been
invented as vviii convince the most credulous. The
■ principles on which it ads are simple and plain. It its
■ an a milled tact that this complaint, w hether called
> Sick Headache, or Nervous Headache, arises prim
arily from the stomach—those who think they have
i the Nervous Headache may rest assured that this
organ, the stomach, is the first cause, that lh a sys
. tern has become vitiated or debiltiaied, thiough the
. stomach, and that only through the same channel
> must they expects restoration ol jhe naiural and
healthy functions ol the system. This object, Dr.
Spobn’s remedy is eminently calculated to aitain.
’ The truth of this position cannot be controverted,
and the sooner sufferers wiih the headache become

The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a
highly respectable Planter ot Wake County, No
Ca,March 3d, 1838:
Dr. Peters —Dear Sir, —By request of your agent,
Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the
almost miraculous effects of your piPs; and 1 would
add, that you may make use ol them, in connection
with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I
speak of their merits from experience,as 1 and my
family' have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three
years ; and so great« the benefits we nave receiv
ed from them in general, that I would rather pur
chase them at ten dollars abox than have my house
without them. I will not enumerate the afflictions
they have relieved us of; but 1 can assure you they
were many, and of very opposite natures, which
has fully proved to me that your medicine is a sim
ple purifier of the system, and therefore equally'
the enemy of every' disease. 1 will mention one
case. 1 have a sister who had been j . a long pe
riod severely afflicted with dropsy in i.xe chest and
was brought by it to th a very verge of the grave.
She was attended by the most eminent physicians
that money could procure; but all their efforts to
restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer
ings were fruitless ; and accordingly, we all consid
ered her immediate death as Inevitable, By good
fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex
pect ng every' day' to be her last, your pills were
introduced into my r family, and so speedy' and pal
pable vvere their effects that three doses visibly re
lieved her, and in less than three months she was
perfectly'restored to health. Tins case, I and all
who vvere witness of it, (but more especially the
suffering party',) considered to be the next thing to
miraculous; and yet I could mention many more
of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills
w'ere equally successful in rescuing the patients
from the jaws of death. Need 1 add that the popu
larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in j
this section of the country ? But this 1 presume
‘ you know from the immense quantity ymu dispose
of I may mention, however, that notwithstanding

To Dr. Peters, —Sir—For upward* l of fifteen
months, 1 have been cruelly afflicted with Fever
and Ague; and during the time could find nothing —
though 1 had applied to every thing that gave me
| any thing like permanent relief. At length, how
ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one
of our best physicians, and I am most grateful and
happy in being able to add, that i had scarcely used
two boxes when I found that they' had restored me
to perfect health. Since then, various members of
my' family have used them with equal success—
and consequently I feel it my duty to apprise you
of the fact, and to request of you to publish this
certificate, as lam anxious to add my public testi
mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your un
rivalled medicine. Respectfully yours,
THEODORE JAMES,.

Communication received from the eminent Dr. J.
H. Irwin of Florence, Georgia :
Dr. J. P. Peters —My Dear Sir—On the night of
the 11th inst.,l was called in great haste to the
house of a fellow ci.izen, (Mr. Lee,) where 1 found
his son laboring under a most alarming attack of
Cynant he Tracnealis (Croup) and apparently be
yond the aid of remedy. By the greatest good for
tune, however, 1 had in my pocket a broken box of
i your pills—four of which 1 administered., with
such immediate happy effect that in a few minutes
I my patient was at ease, and out of danger. This
case, in connection with my name is at your ser
vice—and I have the pleasure to be able to inform
you that your inestimable medicine is in such great
favor with the faculty here, that 1 believe there is
not one of them who does not use it in his private
practice. Yours most resp’y.

riIHE great celebrityof this unrivalled Compo
-1 sition,especially in the Northern-States, leaves
the proprietor but. little need to say any thing in its
favor: for it has been generally conceded to it,that
it is beyond all comparison the best remedy for ex
ternal complaints that has ever, been discovered.
Indeed the’spoed and certainty ot i's operations,
have the appearance of miracles : as ulcers, wounds,
corns, fever sores, chilblains, white swellings, biles,
piles, spider and snake bites, &e. &c., immediately
yield to its superhuman influence. Thus, it prop
erly applied it will remove an inveterate corn or
break and heal a bile in five days, w ill allay and
perfectly cure an ulcer in two weeks, and the most
| desperate cases ot white swelling that can be ima-
I gii ed have been destroyed by it in less than two

I cacy is truly surprising, and if applied in time, its
I powers of attraction afe so wonderful thatlluy vvili j
at once arrest the poison and I bus prevent it from
perva img (he system. It is likewise greatly supe- j
