Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of w hich, he aolds himself bound, and in honor pledg ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they profess to De, and will do for others what they have done for such as mav have used them ; is this is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will doubtless be valuable information to families to j know that die Y'ellow are just doubly as valuable ! as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much of the haprtine, or active principle, and when used as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the ' system in much better condition than the other kind ; many w ill recollect with what trembling ; anxiety calomel has been given to children, and ' how they then wished for a substitute. It has | long been known that the Tomato contained ca thartic principles, but not until of late was it ascertained that they contained alterative and diu retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that they know what it is Were it a patent mystery, they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they justly do tlie one thousand and one cure-alls of the day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a mild, sa.e i nti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato Pill, of which a supply, w T e learn, will soon be in this city. The following is the language of the com mittee ol the Philadelphia Medical Society on the Radical Cute of Hernia. “ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected the permanent and accurate retention of the in testines in every case of Hernia observed by’ the committee, without material inconvenience to the patient, and often under trials more severe than I are usually ventured upon by those who wearother trusses; trb.ls that wmuld be imprudent with any other apparatus known to the committee.” “ The committee are induced by the foregoing conclusions 10 recommend, in strong terms, the in struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of the profession, as the best known means of me chanical retention !n hernia, and as furnishing the highest chances of radical cure.” The fol owing is from the Southern Medical and Southern Journal, published in our own city’. “ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia, and that Dr. Trusses are decidedly the best y-et invented to effect the object.” Persons from a distance can have the instruments applied, upon application at the office, and all ne cessary information given to enable them to adjus( it themselve;. The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a highly respectable Planter otf Wake County, No Ca.,March 3d, IS3S: Dr. Peters —Dear Sir, —By request of your agent, Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the almost miraculous effects of your piPs; and I would add, that you may make use ol them, in connection with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I speak of their merits from experience,as I and my family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three years ; and so great ai*e the benefits we nave receiv ed from them in general, that I would rather pur chase them at ten dollars a box than have my house without them. I will not enumerate the afflictions they have relieved us of; bat I can assure you they were many, and of very opposite natures, which has fully proved to me that your medicine is a sim ple purifier of the system, and therefore equally the enemy of every disease. I will mention one case. I Lave a sister who had been for a long pe riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the che?t and was brought by it to the very verge of the gra\ e. She was attended by the most eminent physicians that money could procure; but ail their efforts to restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer ings were fruitless ; and accordingly,we all consid ered her immediate death as inevitable. By good fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex pecting every day to be her last, your pills were introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal pable were their effects that three doses visibly re lieved her, and in less than three months she was perfectly restored to health. This case, I and aH who were witness of it, (but more especially the suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to miraculous; and yet I could mention many more of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills were equally successful in rescuing the patients from the jaws of death. Need I add that the popu larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in this section of the country ? But this 1 presume you know from the immense quantity you dispose of. 1 may mention, however, that notwithstanding its general use, 1 never heard an individual complain of its effects. My residence is 12 miles from Ral eigh, on the road to Fayetteville. I am, with sen timents of regard, your ob’t servant. A. G. BANKS. To Dr. Peters, —Sir —F’or upward l3 of fifteen months, I have been cruellj afflicted with Fever and Ague; and during the time could find nothing — though I had applied to every thing that gave me any thing like permanent relief. At length, how ever, j'our pills were recommended to me, by one of our best physicians, and I am most grateful and happy in being able lo add, that I had scarcely used two boxes when 1 found that they had restored me to perfect health. Since then, various members of my' family have used them with equal success— and consequently 1 feel it my duty to apprise you of the fact, and to request of y'ou to publish this certificate, as lam anxious to add my public testi mony' to the almost miraculous virtues of your un rivalled medicine. Extract of a ie|ter from Dr. Waines of Cincin nati, Feb. 2,1838. —\ our Pills are the mildest in their operations, and yet most powerful in their ef fects, of any that I have ever met with in a'practice of eight and twenty years. Their action on the chyle, and hence on the impurities of the blood is evidently very surprising. ’ tx a I ? l tterfrom Dr * Scott of Baltimore, Dec. 17,1836.—1 am in the daily habit of prest ri bmg them, (Peters’Pills) and they in nearly a]' cases answered my purpose. June 3 fBNHE great celebrity of this unrivalled Coinpo sit ion, especially inthe Nori hern States, leaves the proprietor but little need to say any thing in its favor: for it has been generally conceded to it,that it is beyond all comparison the best remedy lor ex ternal complaints that has ever been discovered. Indeed the'speed and certainty of its operations, have tlw appearance of miracles : as ulcers, wounds, corns, fever sores, chilblains, while swellings, biles, piles, spider and snake bites, &c. <fec., immediately yield to its superhuman influence. Thus, it prop erly applied it will remove an inveterate corn or break and heal a biie in live nays, will allay and perfectly cure an ulcer in two weeks, and the must desperate cases ot white swelling that can be ima gined, have been destroyed by it in less than two months. In the bites of poisonous reptiles its effi cacy is truly surprising, and if applied in time, its powers of attraction are so wonderful that they will at once arrest the poison and thus prevent it from perva nng the system. It is likewise greatly supe rior to any medicine heretofore discovered for the chafed back and limbs of horses—lor tetters, ring worms, chapped lips —and in short, for every exter nal bodily evil that may fall to the lot of man or beast. The proprietor has received at least a thousand certificates, and other documents, in fhyor of his “ Specific Oinirn nt,” upwards of a hundred of which were written by respectable m«nil?ef9of the Medical Faculty. Albany, July 9th, 1837. To Dr. Harrison. Sir—l useyour Specific Ointment in my practice, and cordially recommend it as a most efficient feme dv lor Tumors, Fleers, White Swellings, Scrofula, Rheumatic Rains, Chapped Face, Lips and Hands: and for general external compia-nts. I write this at ihe request of your agent here, who furnishes me with lhe article, and am pleased to have it in my power to award honor to merit. RUFUS R. BEACH, M. D. Brooklyn, N. Y., Oct. 29, 1833. Dear Sir—My daughter,a girl of fourteen, was sadly afflicted witn thecomp aim that physicians termed a scald head ; and I feared, independent ol every other evil, that she would he bald in conse quence. By the recommendation, however, of the Reverend Mr. Rernn, 1 applied your ointment to the afflicted part; and 1 thank God that my child is now entirely recovered from the disease, and is getting her hair as fast as can be expected. The cure was effected in rather less than two months; daring which lime I used fiv dollars worth of oint ment ; I had spent upwards of a hundred dollars duting the previous three years, without whatever. MARY HOWARD. I hereby substantiate the truth ol ihe above statement. CHRISTOPHER HOWARD. 1 know the above statement to be cot reel, and I can add from experience that “ Harrison’s Specific Ointment,” is an excellent medicine for external complaints. MATTHEW PERRIN. Dear Sir—l have to request of you to forward rue, two hundred boxes of Ointment, by the most immediate conveyance, and v\ithout regard to the expense of carriage, as lam quite out, and much in want of it.—You know my estimation of your valuable discovery, and therefore I shall only add, that further experience has increased my enthusi asm and established me in the opinion, that it is su perior to any remedy extant for external diseases. Respectfully yours, CHARLES P. EMERSON, M. D. New Orleans, Match 20th, 1838. Dr. Harrison Sir —The virtues of your Specific Ointment, have been long known t .e,as 1 have used none oilier in my rather extensive practice torseve.-al years, and if you think it would be to your advantage, 1 can furnish you with twenty certificates of important cures which it has effected under my own imme diate inspection: the last being one of a severe and apparently perpetual ulcer, in the hack of a poor woman, Mary Baxter who residetf'in 216 Di i vision street, which it completely healed in twenty j onedays. My present chief object in writing to you, is to learn who is your authorised agent in this city, for, being in want of a supply of your oint ment, and the person Mr. Boyle, from whom 1 used to purchase it, having laded and gone out of busi T ness, I am fearful if ipurebaseat random, that t ‘ may be imposed on bv a counterfeit. Your obedient servant, EDW ARD RAMSEY, M. D. Cincinnati, August 9,1837. Dr. Harrison. Sir, —1 have no hesitation in stating, in reply to your note, that your “ Spec ific Ointment” is truly equal to the majority ol the ends for which vou re commend it. 1 qualify ray certificate by the word majority, as it is ray maxim to give no opinion in medical matters where 1 have hud no experience. In sprains, bruises, inflammations, eruptions, whit lows, piles, «fec.,it is mv universal recipe.
