Radical Cure ol Hernia or Ku] ture, by Dr.
Chase’s Improved Surgeons! Trusses.
f |IHE subscriber has opened an off ?e, at the Drug
1 store of Messrs. J. J. Robertsc. & Co., for the
® treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by leans of these
ustly celebrated instruments. He las now used
them for nearly a year, and, did not Idicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who h ive been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing Inti dangerous
affection, by the use of these Trusses besides many
others who are in a fairway of heir g entirely re
lieved. The following is the languaj eof the com
mittee of the Philadelphia Medical - iciety on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase ave effected
the permanent and accurate retenti n of the in
testines in every case of Hernia obs rved by the
committee, without material inconvc lienee to the
patient, and often under trials mou severe than
are usually ventured upon by those \*|io wearother
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by ?he foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the »fejniidejice of
the profession, as the best known ri-ans'of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as tarnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.” |
The fol owing is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in ur od n city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Per?ous from a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treateji gratuitous

FAMILIES.
DR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
does not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts are made
know’n to the faculty, or any one eke that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx
iously looked for, some one in almost l ie extreme
North has advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting to
be made from the stalk, a thing not more aosuru
than for one to offer meal from the corn stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising Ihe Tomato
so far North. ” I
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, he holds himself bound, and in hjiior pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are ail that they
profess to be, and w’ill do for otheis iwhat they
have done for such as mav have used* them • as
this is a vegetable of great use, and va’-uc, it will
doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly & valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to; keep the
cystem in much better condition that* the other
kind; many will recollect with whai;trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute*. It has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of la£e was it
ascertained that they contained alterative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embracS and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the *?ason that
they know’ what it is Were it a paten* mystery,
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-ldls of the

Dr. M. B. Cohen, proprietor of the universally’

all persons suffering from these disea es to the

a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain

This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success which has attended it through all of its
trying circumstances, namely, “five days,” —the
same success which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by 31. Cheveres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians.—
Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every" Indian who rely
with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers.
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by" Wabenoshe, to
M. Cheveret, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

The extraordinary reputation that L‘r. Spohn’s

That so m ich suffering should have existed lor ages
without any discovery of an effectual preventive, or
cure,is truly a subject of much regrei but Dr. o.
now assures the public that such a remedy has been
invented as will convince the most credulous. The
principles on which it acts are simple and plain. It is
ana milled fact that this complaint, whether called
Sick Headache, or Nervous Headache, arises prim

the Nervous Headache may rest assurer! that this
organ, the stomach, is the first cause, that lh a sys

Indeed the.speed and certainty of its operations,
have the appearance of miracles : as ulcers, wouuds,

f | iHESK Pills are no longer among those of doubt
i. ful utility. They have passed away from the
hundreds that are daily launched upon the tide of
experiment, and now stand before the public as
m reputation, and as extensively employed in
all parts of the United States, the Canadas, Texas
Mexico, and the West Indies, as any medicine tha*
has ever been prepared for the relief of suffering
man. They have been introduced wherever it was
found possible to carry them ; and there are but
few towns that do not contain some remarkable
evidences of their good effects. The certificates
that have been presented to the propiietor exceed
twenty thousand! upwards of five hundred of
which are from regular practising physicians, why
are the most competent judges of their merits.
Often htive the cures performed by this mediciu
been the subject of editorial comment, in variou
newspapers and journals; and it may with truth be
asserted that no medicine of the kin 1 has ever re
ceived testimonials of greater value thin are at
tached to this.
■ They are in general use as a family medicine
and there are.thousands of families who declare they
re never satisfied until they have a supply always
on hand.
They have no rival in curing and preventing
Biliious Fevers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver
Complaints, Sick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma,
Dropsy, Rheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen,
Piles, Cholic, Female Obstructions, Heartburn,
Furred Tongue, Nausea, Distension of the Stomach
and Rowels, incipient Diarrhoea,Flatulence,Habitu
al Costiveness, Loss of Appetite, Blotched or Sallow
Complexion, and in cases of torpor of the bowels,
where a cathartic or aperient is needed They are
exceedingly mild in their operation, producing
neither nausea, griping nor debility.
The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a
highly respectable Planter of Wake County, No
Ca,March 3d,1838:
Dr. Peters —Dearfcir, —By request of your agent,
Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the
almost miraculous effects of your piPs; and 1 would
add, that you may make use ol them, in connection
with my name, in any manner you deem proper, 1
speak of their merits from experience,as 1 and my
family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three
year* ; and so great ave the benefits we have receiv
ed from them in general, that I would rather pur
chase them al ten dollars abox than have my house
without them. I will not enumerate ihe afflictions
they have relieved us of; but I can assure you they
were many, and of very opposite natures, which
has fully proved to me that your medicine is a sim
ple purifier of the system, and therefore equally
the enemy of every disease. I will mention one
case. I have a sister who had been for a long pe
riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and
was brought by it to the very verge of the grave.
She was attended by the most eminent physicians
that money could procure ; but all their efforts to
restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer
ings were fruitless ; and accordingly,we all consid
ered her immediate death as inevitable. By good
fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex
pect ngevery da}' to be her last, your pills were
introduced into ray family, and so speedy and pal
pable were their effects that three doses visibly re
lieved her, and in less than three months she was
perfectly restored to health. This case, 1 and all
who were witness of it, (but more especially the
suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to
miraculous; and yet 1 could mention many more
of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills
were equally successful in rescuing the patients
from the jaws of death. Need I add that the popu
larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in
this section of the country * But this I presume
you know from the immense quantity you dispose
of. I may mention, however, that notwithstanding
its general use, 1 never heard an individual complain
of its effects. My residence is 12 miles from Ral
eigh, on the road to Fayetteville. I am, with sen
timents of regard, your ob’t servant.
A. G. BANKS.
To Dr. Peters, —Sir—For upward- of fifteen
months, I have been ciuelly afflicted with Fever
and Ague; and during the time could find nothing—
though I had applied to every thing that gave me
any thing like permanent relief. At length, how
ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one
of our best phj sicians, and I am most grateful and
happy in being able to add, that 1 had scarcely used
two boxes when 1 found that the}' had restored me
to perfect health. Since then, various members of
my family have used them with equal success —
and consequently 1 feel it my duty to apprise }ou
of the fact, and to request of you to publish this
certificate, as lam anxious to add my public testi
mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your un
rivalled medicine. Respectfully yours,
THEODORE JAMES.

Dr. J. P. Peters —My Dear Sir—On the night of
the llthinst.,l was called in great haste to the
house of a fel ow ci.izen, (Mr. Lee,) where I found
his son laboring under a most alarming attack of
Cynanche Tracnealis (Cronp) and apparently be
yond the aid of remedy. By the greatest good for
tune, however, 1 had in my pocket a broken box of
your pills—four of which I adminlstere 1, with
such immediate happy effect that in a tew minutes
my patient was at ease, and out of danger. This
case, in connection with my name is at your ser
vice—and I have the pleasure to be able to inform
