Radical Cure ol Hernia or Rupture, by Dr.
ClmseN Improved Surgeons 1 * Trusses.
f INHE subscriber has opened an office,at the Drug
2_ store of .Messrs. J. J. Robertson ScCo., forths
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, ly means of tliese
ustly celebrated instruments. He. lias now used
them for nearly a year, and, didnobdelicacy foibid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured , of this truly distressing and dangerous
alfcction, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway o f being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee ot the Philadelphia Medical'Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have elfected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia o .-erved by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
8 patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wearcther
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, tiie in
struments of Dr. Chase to the iconfidejjce of
the profession, as the best known limans- of me
chanical retention in hernia, and asifurnishingthe
highest chances of radical cure.”
The fol owing is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in reir own city.
All must admit of the radical tine of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to elTect tiie object.”
Persons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. 'The poor, who arc laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate, from somevesponsi*
blc person, of their pecuniary disability^
The instruments are of all sizes, a d applicable

OR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
does not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component pu ts are made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx
iously looked for. some one in almost the extreme
North lias advertised a 'Tomato Pill, purporting lo
be made from the stalk, a thing not more aosutu
than for one to olfer meal from the corn stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raisin- the Tomato
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are Ml that they
profess to be. and will do for otheis what they
have done for such as rna\ have used them ; as
'-his is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
vioubt css be valuable information to >a nlUcs to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Led Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the hapathie, oi active principle, amh when used
as a daily vegetable will bo found uj, keep the
system in much better condition tin, a the other
kind; many will recollect with trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute. It has
long been known that the Tomato coinUincd ca
thartic principles, but not until of iajte was it
ascertained that they contained alterative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cuicv-alls of the
day. If you w ish to cleanse the system with a
mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, use tyo Tomato
Pill, of which a supply, we leant, will soon be in

This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success which has attended it through all ot its
trying circumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
same success which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
lor recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabesothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians.—
Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an a must
incredible extent the children of this warlike piince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to th
; dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in Ament a, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the ‘art of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, 1 may say r , religious confidence on its cura

Below is a copy' of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by Wabenoshe. to
M. Cheverct, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.

which is consumed in preparing the aitick- for im

]{ j Dr. Peters —Dear Sir,' —By request of your agent,
/! ; Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the
I] | almost miraculous effects of your pil's ; andl would
Ij a id, that you may make use ol them, in connection
J | with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I
SI , speak of their merits from experience,as 1 and my
2 ; family have taken upwards of tidily boxes in three
)- ' years; and so great aw the benefits we have receiv
s j ed from them in general, that 1 would rather pur
ls j chase them at ten dollars a box than have my house
it i without thorn. 1 will not enumerate Ihe afflictions
i- j they have relieved us of; but 1 can assure you they
L j were many, and of very opposite natures, which
s , I has fully proved to me that your medicine isasim-
s i pie purifier of, the system, and therefore equally
the enemy of every disease. I will mention one
y case. 1 have a sister who had been for a long pe
*' riod severely afflicted with dropsy' in the chest and
’J was brought by it T to the very verge of the gra\e.
* She was Attended by the most eminent physicians
' l that money could procure; but all their efforts to
1 restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer
1' ings were fruitless ; and accordingly, we all consid
ered her immediate death as inevitable. Jiy good
j‘j ' fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex
n pect ng every day to be her last, your pilla were
introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal
’e pablc were their effects that three doses visibly re
,r lieved her, and in less than three months she was
perfectly restored to health. This case, 1 and all
){ who were witness of it, (but more especially the
suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to
d miraculous; and yet I could mention many more
Is of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills
jt were equally successful in rescuing the patients
ie from the jaws of death. Need 1 add that the popu
larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in
this section of the country ;’ But this 1 presume
I you know from the immense quantity you dispose
of I may mention, however, that notwithstanding
c ‘’ its general use, 1 never heard an individual complain

v ' To Dr. Peters, —Sir—For upward" of fifteen
* months, 1 have been cruelly afflicted with Fever
and Ague; and during the time could laid nothing—
though 1 had applied to every thing that gave me
i any thing like permanent relief. At length, how
ls ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one
is : of our best physicians, and 1 am most grateful and
d happy in being able to add, that 1 had scarcely used
s * two boxes when I found that they had restored me
e to perfect health. Since then, various members of
ie my family have used them with equal success —
18 and consequently I feel it my duty to apprise you
18 of the fact, and to request of you to publish this
e certificate, as lam anxious to add my public testi
