“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected

conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in

The following is from the Soutluin Medical and

RHEUMATISM.
COHEN’S RHEUMATIC EMBROCATION.—
: Dr. M. B. Cohen, proprietor of the universally
celebrated lotion for the cure of Chronic and Inila
matory Rheumatism. Sprains, Lumbago, Pains and
Swellings in the Joints, &c., known as Cohen’s
Rheumatic Embrocation, begs respectfully to refer
all persons suffering from these disea-es to the
thousands of cures that his preparation has accom
plished, and to the numerous strange and highly
respectable testimonials which have, from time to
time, been published to that effect in New York
and other places. So certain and searching is this
Liniment in its operations, even in cases of long
j standing, and of an obstinate nature, that it has
( never been known to fail. The following letters
are selected from hundreds of others of a like de
scription. It will be proper that all persons using
he Liniment, see that it is accompanied with the
signature of the proprietor in his own hand writing.
Since the introduction of this remedy to the public,
various empirics have been palmed upon the coun
try, Nostrums and Lotions, and Liniments, and
“Infallible Pffieumatic Mixtures,” all of which be
ing a compound of ignorant quacks, arc calculated,
more or less, to injure the system rather than re
move any complaint. In proof of the estimation
in which the Embrocation is held by respectable
men in the medical profession, as well as by the
thousands of persons who have been effectually
cured of Rheumatism, the subscriber has subjoined
letters from a few who are well and popularly
known to the entire society in New York, and
whose opinions and professional judgments are
universally esteemed.

ANTi-BALSAMIC GONORRHCEAL SOLUTION,
1 Warranted to cure in Five Days.
fjnHIS incomparable and invaluable remedy so
JL long known, and used with such unparrallelcd
, success in the Canadas for the last 30 ycats, ap
pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon the
human system is such that it invariably acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable‘‘ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
• success which has attended it through all of its
trying circumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
1 same success which followed it in a Northern lati
. tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
i or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
’ and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated
1 Indian Chief Wajenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
’ he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
> siness in the North-west with the Indians. —
Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
1 success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
[ at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
■ Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
i position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers.
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by Wabenoshe, to
M. Cheveret, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

OERHAPS there is nothing mor" calculated to
disgust the public eye than the innumerable
advertisements ot nostrums that are constantly ap

claim, our souls are sick, our ears are pained with
every day’s reports of ills and specifics. 'Phis state
of the public mind would seem to forbid any person
of delicate mind from sending forth any new dis

Still, motives of delicacy should not prevent us from
making known real discoveries, which we are con

consideration has prompted (he author of these hit

VOUS AND SICK HEAD ACHE, has the satis

by removing the causes cures effectually and perma

families who have considered Sick Headache a con

sures them that they ore mistaken, and labouring
under distress which tney might not only alleviate,
but actually eradicated by the use if his remedy.
It is the result of scientific research, and is entirely
of a different character from advertised patent medi
cines, and is not unpleasant to the taste.
HEADACHE, SICK OR NERVOUS.
The extraordinary reputation that Dr. Spohn’s
remedy for this distressing eompaint is every day
gaining is certainly a matterofmuch astonishment,
That so much suffering should have existed for ages
without any discovery of an effectual preventive, or
cure, is truly a subject of much regret but Dr. S.
now assures the public that such a remedy has been
invented as will convince the mostcredulous. The
vrincipies on w hich it acts are simple and plain. It is
an a milted fact that this complaint, whether called
Sick Headache, or Nervous Headache, arises prim
arily from t lie stomach—those who think they have
the Nervous Headache may rest assured that this
organ, the stomach, is the first cause, that th" sys
tem has become vitiated or debilitated, thiough the
stomach, and that only through the same channel
must they expect s restoration of jbe natural and
healthy functions ol the system. This object, Dr.
Spohn’s remedy is eminently calculated to attain.
The truth of this position cannot be controverted,
and the sooner sufferers with the headache become
convinced of it, the sooner will their suffering end
in restoration of health, Dr. pledges his
pr» fessiotmi reputation on this fact. Tire remedy
may be had of apothecaries generally throughout
the United States.

great celebrity of this unrivalled Compo-

the proprietor but little need to say any tiling in its

it is beyond all comparison the best remedy for ex

Indeed the”speed and certainty of its operations,
have the appearance of miracles : as ulcers, wouutls,

perfectly cure an ulcer m two weeks, and the most
desperate cases ot white swelling that can bo ima

RUFUS R. BEACH, M. D.
Brooklyn, N. Y., Oct. 29, 1838.
Dear Sir—My daughter, a girl of fourteen, was
sadly afflicted vvitn the comp aim that physicians
termed a scald head ; and 1 feared, independent of
ever} other evil, that she would be bald in conse
quence. By the recommendation, however, of the
Reverend Mr. Fermi, I applied your ointment to the
afflicted part; ami I thank God that my child is
now entirely recovered from the disease, and is
getting her hair as fast as can be expected The
cure was effected in rather less than two months ;
during which time I used fiv dollars worth of oint
ment ; I had spent upwards of a hundred dollars
dunng the previous three years, without any benefit
whatever.
M ARY HOWARD.
I hereby substantiate the truth ol the above
statement.

Dear Sir—l have to request of you to forward I
me, two hundred boxes of Ointment, by the most i
immediate conveyance, and without regard to the
expense of carriage, as lam quite out, and much
in want of it. —You Know my estimation of your
valuable discovery, and therefore I shall only add,
that further < xperience has increased my enthusi

Dr. Harrison
Sir—The virtues of your Specific Ointment, have j
been long known to me,as 1 have used none oilier I
in my rather extensive practice lor several years, and I
if you think it would be to your advantage, I can
furnish you vyith twenty certificates of important
cures which it has effected under my own imme
diate inspection: the last being one of a severe
and apparently p-rpetual ulcer,in the back of a
poor woman, Mary Baxter who resides in 216 Di
vision street, which il completely healed in twenty
one days. My present chief object in writing to
you, is to learn who is your authorised agent in this
city, for, being in want of a supply of vour oint
ment, and the person Mr. Boyle, from whom I used
to purchase it, having failed and gone out of busi
ness, I am fearful if 1 purchase at random, that i
may be imposed on bv a counterfeit.
Your obedient servant,
EDWARD RAMSEY, M. D.
Cincinnati, August 9,1837.
Dr Harrison.
Sir, —1 have no hesitation in stating, m reply to
your note, that your “ Specific Ointment” is truly
equal to the majority of the ends for which you re
commend it. 1 qualify my certificate by the word
majority, as it is my maxim lo give no opinion in
medical matters where I have had no experience.
In sprains, bruises, inflammations, eruptions, whit
lows, piles, <kc., it is mv universal recipe. I have
also used it on the leg of a boy which had been
bitten by an adder, and the extraction of the poison,
and ultimate cure was so rapid, that my patient was
as well as ever in a week ; and has remained so to
this day
Yours respectfully,

f b 'i.HESE Pills are no longer among those of doubt-
I ful utility. They have passed away from the
hundreds that are daily launched upon the tide of
experiment, and now stand before the public as
high in reputation, and as extensively employed in
a]] parts of the United States, the Canadas, Texas
Mexico, and the West Indies, as any medicine that
has ever been prepared for the relief of suffering
man. They have been introduced wherever it was
found possible to carry them ; and there are but
few towns that do not contain some remarkable
evidences of theirgood effects. Phe certificates
that have been presented to the propiietor exceed
twenty thousand! upwards of live hundred of
which are from regular practising physicians, who
are the most competent judges of their merits.
Often have the cures performed by this medicin
been the subject of editorial comment, in variou
newspapers and journals; and it may with t; nth be
asserted, that no medicine of the kin 1 has evei ic
ceived testimonials of greater value thin are at

They are in general use as a family medicine
and there are|thousands of families who declare they
re never satisfied until they have a supply always
on hand.
They have no rival in curing and preventing

The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a
highly respectable Planter of Wake County, No
Ca.,March 3d,1538:
Dr. Peters—Dear Sir, —By requestof your agent,
Mr. Harrison, 1 send you a few lines respecting the
almost miraculous effects of your piPs; and I would
add, that you may make use ol them, in connection
with my name, in any manner you deem proper, 1
speak of their merits from experience,as 1 and my
family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three
years ; and so great are the benefits we have receiv
ed from them fti general, that I would rather pur
chase them al ten dollars a box than have rny house
without them. I will not enumeraie the afflictions
they have relieved us of; but I can assure you they
were many, and of very opposite natures, which
has fully proved to me that your medicine is a sim
ple purifier of the system, and therefore equally
the enemy of every disease. I will mention one
case. 1 have a sister who had been for a long pe
riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and
was brought by it to the very verge of the grave.
She was attended by the most eminent physicians
that money could procure; but all their dibits to
restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer
ings were fruitless ; and accordingly,we all consid
ered her immediate death as inevitable. By good
fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex
pecting every day to be her last, your pills were
introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal
pable were their effects that three doses visibly re
lieved her, and in less than three months she was
perfectly restored to health. This case, I and all
who were witness of it, (but more especially the
suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to
miraculous; and yet I could mention many more
of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills
I were equally successful in rescuing the patients
from the jaws of death. Need 1 add that the popu
larity of your medicine amounts tc enthusiasm in
this section of the country ? But this I presume
you know from the immense quantity you dispose
of, 1 may mention, however, that notwithstanding
its general use, I never heard an individual complain
of its effects. My residence is 12 miles from Ral
eigh, on the road to Fayetteville. I am, with sen
timents of regard, vour ob’t servant.
A. G. BANKS.
To Dr. Peters, —Sir —For upward" of fifteen
months, I have been cruelly afflicted with Fever
and Ague ; and during the time could find nothing—
though 1 had applied to every thing that gave me
any thing like permanent relief. At length, how
ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one
of our best physicians, and 1 am most grateful and
happy in being able to add, that I had scarcely used
two boxes when I found that they had restored me
to perfect health. Since then, various members of
i my family have used them with equal success—
and consequently I feel it my duty to apprise you
of the fact, and to request of you to publish this
certificate, as lam anxious to add my public testi
mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your nn
i rivalled medicine. Respectfully yours,
THEODORE JAMES.

Communication received from the eminent Dr. J.
H. Irwin of Florence, Georgia:
Dr. J. F. Peters —My Dear Sir —On the night of
the llthinst.,l was called in great haste to the
house of a fellow ci.izen, (Mr. Lee.) where I found
his son laboring under a most alarming attack of
Cynanche Tracnealis (Cronp) and apparently be
yond the aid of remedy. By the greatest good for
tune, however, 1 had in my pocket a broken box of
your pills—four of which I administered, with
such immediate happy effect that in a few minutes
rny patient was at ease, and out of danger. This
case, in connection with my name is at your ser
vice—and 1 have the pleasure to he able to inform
you that your inestimable medicine is in such great
favor with the faculty here, that I believe there is
not one of them who does not use it in his private
practice. Yours most resp’y.

“Le C ordial D« Lucine,” or, in English, »i] e

which it restores the virile powers when ihey |,. tV{ ,

In common with the generality of really o- oCt ]

so simple, yet so efficacious, that while it can rent *

The usages of society are unfortunately such,
that, notwithstanding '.lie benefits which would be

of the documents w hich have been received as
vouchers of the blessings n has conferred on num

forbear remarking—that u has been demonstrated
that there is scarcely ever, if any such thing at all,
as natural barrenness, or as natural imhecilitv of
ihe procreantfunctions,in eilhersex ; and therefore,
that those evils are the effects of artificial causes,
and may be speedily subdued and removed by the
use ot “ Le Cordial de Lucine.”
The Lucina Cordial is also an indubitable cure
for the Gleet, and the Fluor A Ibus, obstructed, diffi

of. It is likewise an invaluable and unrivalled
medicine in cases of Chronic Eruptions of theskin,

To Dr. Magnin: —My dear friend —l am mos
gratified at the unprecedented popularity ol your
“Luc na Cordial,” and am able to hear lestimony to
its surprising virtue. 1 had a patient recently
1 .VI , a gentleman of fortune, who had for
several years abandoned himself in the vortex ot
dissipation ; and was only reclaimed from it at
length by the utter prostration of all his virile ener
6*?®- "as,indeed, reduced to the last exirotniiv
ot debility and tasteiessness, for, if an occasional
flash of excitement warmed his system, the reac
tion was almost.immediate, and the result perfect
prostration. I had applied ail the usual nostrums
in such cases; hut, as i had anticipated, without
success ; and when 1 saw the “ Lc.cuia Cordial”
advertised, I must confess that even the great weight
of your name did not give me much hope in i',° at
least so far as regarded the case in hand. 1 fell
bound lo try it,however, and was soon satisfied of
its efficacy; iur before a bottle was expended, my
patient gave evidence of the returning elasticity el
his system ; and lie is now, having used four bottle*,
as wellts ever.
