Radical Cure ol Hernia or Rapture, by Dr.
Chase’s improved Surgeons’; 'Trusses.
subscriber has opened an cfflke, at the Drug
1 store of Messrs. J. J. Robertiioh ikCo., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by rjieans of these
ustly celebrated instruments. Ho |ias now used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who;halve been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing ilnd dangerous
affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway of bf in| entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee ot the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase- ha\ e effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
ary usually ventured upon by those who wearolher
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the . confidence of
the profession, as the best means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chan res of radical cure.” i
The fol owing is from the Southt?irn Medical and
Southern Journal, published in ur jnvn city.
“ All must admit of the radical ?:uie of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.” !
Persons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, a.ud all ne
cessary information given to enable .them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous

The instruments are of all sizes, aad. applicable

Dr. Miles of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the

this is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
doubtless be valuable information to -families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly =as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twire as much

as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the

how they then wished for a substitute! It has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca

the preparation most cheerfully, for the rehson that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,

a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagieeahie ‘ ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
1 success which has attended it through all* of its
trying circumstances, namely, “five days,” —the
1 same success which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
. or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue

Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
’ he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
> siness in the North-west with the Indians. —
VVabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
[ success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
j valued virtues have already enriched to an a most
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
I at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
• Great Spirit, never to divulge the *ait of its com
i position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
w r itk, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers.
Below 7 is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by VVabenoshe, to
M. Cheveret, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Fetv white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

Dear Sir—My daughter, a girl of fourteen, was
sadly afflicted witu thecomp amt that physicians
termed a scald head ; and 1 feared, n.depe dent ol

Reverend Mr. Fermi, 1 applied your ointment lotlie
afflicted part; and 1 thank God that my child is
now cutireiy recovertd from the uisease, and is
getting her baa as fast as can be expected The
cure was effected in rather less than two months;
during which time 1 us< d fiv dollars worth of oint

Sir —The virtues of your Specific Ointment, have [
been long known to me,as 1 have used none other
iu my rather extensive practice forseveral years, and
if y~u think it wou.d be to your advantage, I can
furnish you with twenty certiiicaies of important
cures w hit h it has effected under my own imme
diate inspection : the last being one of a severe
and apparently perpetual nicer,in the back of a
poor woman, Mary Baxter who resides in 216 Di
vision street, which it completely healed in twenty
onedays. My present chief object in writing to
you, is io learn who is your authorised agent, in this
city, for, being in want of a supply ol your oint
ment, and the person Mr. Boyle, from whom I used
to purchase it, having tailed and gone out of busi
ness, I am fearful if 1 purchase at random, that i
may be imposed on by a counterfeit

Dr Harrison.
Sir, —1 have no hesitation in staling, in reply to
your note, that your “ Specific Ointment” is truly
equal to the majority of the ends for which you re
commend it. 1 qualify my certificate by the word
majority, as it is my maxim to give no opinion in
medical matters where i have had no experience.
In sprains, bruises, inflammations, eruptions, whit
lows, piles, Ac.,it is ni* universal recipe. I have
aEo used it on the leg of a boy which had been
bitten by anadder, and ihe extraction of the poison,
and ultimate cure was so rapid, that my patient was
as well as ever in a week ; and has remained so to
this day
Yours respectfully,

* § .HESE Pills are no longer among those of doubt
-8 ful utility. They have passed away from the
hundreds that are daily launched upon the tide of
experiment, and now stand before the public as
high in reputation, and as extensively employed in
all parts of the United States, the Canadas, Texas
Mexico, and the West Indies, as any medicine that
has ever been prepared for the relief of suffering
man. They have been introduced wherever it was
found possible to carry them ; and there are but
few towns that do not contain some remarkable
evidences of their good effects. The certificates
that have been presented to the propiietor exceed
twenty thousand! upwards of five hundred of
which are from regular practising physicians, w ho
are the most competent judges of their merits.
Often have the cures performed by this medicin
been the subject of editorial comment, in virion
newspapers and journals; and it may with truth be
asserted, that no medicine of the kin 1 has ever re
ceived testimonials of greater value thin are at
tached to this.
They are in general use as a family medicine
and there are.lhousands of families who declare they
re never satisfied until they have a supply always
on hand.
They have no rival in curing and preventing
Billions Fevers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver
Complaints, Sick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma,
Dropsy, Rheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen,
Piles, Cholic, Female Obstructions, Heartburn,

and Bowels, Incipient Diarrhoea,Flatulence,HaDitu
al Costiveness, Loss of Appetite, Blotched or Sallow
Complexion, and in cases of torpor of the bowels,
where a cathartic or aperient is needed They are
exceedingly mild in their operation, producing
neither nausea, giiping no debility.
The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by- a
highly respectable Planter of Wake County, N'o
Ca ,March 3d, 1838:
Dr. Peters —Dear Sir, —By request of your agent,
Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting tlie
almost miraculous effects of your piPs ; and 1 won !d
add, that you may make use ol them, in connection
with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I
speak of their merits from experience,as 1 and my
family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in thiee
years; and so great ain? the benefits we have receiv
ed from them in general, that 1 would rather pur
chase them at ten dollars a box than have my house
without them. 1 will not enumerate ihe afflictions
they have relieved us of; but I can assure you they
were many, and of very opposite natures, which
has fully proved to me that your medicine is a sim
ple purifier of the system, and therefore equally
the enemy of every disease. I will mention one
case. I have a sister who had been for a long pe
riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and
was brought by it to the very verge of the grave.
She was attended by the most eminent physicians
that money could procure; but all their efforts to
restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer
ings were fruitless ; and accordingly,we all consid
ered her immediate death as inevitable. Jiy good
fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex
pect ng every day to be her last, your pills were
introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal
pable were their effects that three doses visibly re
lieved her, and in less than three months she was
perfectly restored to health. This case, 1 and all
who were witness of it, (but more especially the
suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to
miraculous; and yet i could mention many more
! of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills
j were equally successful in rescuing the patients
fiom the jaws of death. Need I add that the popu
larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in
this section of the country ? But this 1 presume
you know fiorn the immense quantity you dispose
{of I may mention, however,that notwithstanding
j its general use, I never heard an individual complain
j of its effects. My residence is 12 miles from Lai
I eigh, on the road to Fayetteville. 1 am, w ith sen
• timents of regard, your ob’t servant.
A. G. BANKS.
To Dr. Peters, —Sir —For upward" of fifteen
| months, 1 have been ciueily afflicted with Fever
and Ague; and during the time could hnd nothing —
though I had applied to every thing that gave me
j any thing like permanent relief. At length, how
| ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one
of our best phv sicians, and I am most grateful and
happy in being able to add, that 1 had scarcely used
two boxes when I found that they had restored me
i to perfect health. Since then, various members of
i my family have used them with equal success—
| and consequently 1 feel it my duty to apprise you
| of the fact, and to request of you to publish this
certificate, as 1 am anxious to add my public testi
mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your tin-
I rivalled medicine. Respectfully yours,
THEODORE JAMES.

“let ordial he Lucine,” or, in English, “ihe

human frame! In all Ihe various cases of languor
lassitude, and debilitation ; it is an unlading remc*

ness ami decision to the mind, as Ik alih and vigor
to the body Hut the pecu l i«r virtue on which us
celebrity is based, is the facility and certainty with
whicli it restores the virile powers when they have
hern desiroved by dis< ase.lime, recklessness,orany
of the numerous cauces which terminate in the
prostration of those functions.
In common with the generality of really good
medicines, tbist odiai conta.ns nothing of a mer
curial or deleterious nature, among ihe many ingre

so simple, 3 r et so • flicacious, that while it can reno

may use it,not only with impunity, but with ad
vantage.
The usages of society are unfortunately such,
that, notwithstanding the b*-n< fits which would be
sure to resuli f rom it, we cannot enter into an analy

of the documents which have been received, as

forbear remarking—that a has been demonstrated
that there is scarcely ever, it any such thing at ail,

that th< se evils air the effec ts of artificial causes,
