IT is disagreeable to me to trouble the public with my private matters, particularly as 1 am not in the habit of writing newspaper squibs, but I am at this time drawn out, in self defence, by the advertisement over the signature of Uharles L. Mathews and Sherwood B Shehee, who have cau tioned the pub ic against trading for a note given to | me by them, as the consideration of the note has failed to be compried with on my paxt I fully complied with the requirements made by Charles L. Mathews, of me, at the time the note was given. He made lurther requirements of me afterwards, of which I would not comply with, for he was ful ly cautioned of future results, by me, before we , made the trade for which I received his note; and he took the trade on himself, at his own risk, in the presence of Mr. Rufus K. Evans, a respeclanle gentleman of Macon, Ga., who 1 fortunately bad to go with me to hear the representations made by me , to him. I wish it further understood, that he came ' to me to make the trade, not me to him. Seveial other gentlemen applied to me for the same trade, and I gave them the same information that I gave Charles L. Mathews. Though Mathews said that he had read or studied law, and consequently was acquainted with the laws of Georgia, and under those considerations we made the trade. Now as he has disclaimed the payment of his note, I cau tion him and all other persons against any intrusion on the property for which the note was given, as the law will be strictly enforced again-t ait tres passers.
