men in the medical profession, as well as by the
thousands of persons who have been elfectua ly

letters from a few who are well and popularly

whose opinions and professional judgments are

This? prize obtains its own name from the certain
success which has attended it through all of its
trying circumstances, namely, “live days,”—the
same success which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians. —
Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout Ills two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until lie sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers.
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by Wabenoshe, to
>l. Chcveret, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”

HEADACHE, SICIv OR NERVOUS.
The extraordinary reputation that Dr. Spohn’s
remedy for this distressing compaint is every day
gaining is certainly a matter of much astonishment,
That so m ich suffering should have existed for ages
without any discovery of an effectual preventive, or
cure, is truly a subject of much regret but Dr. 8.
now assures the public that such a remedy has been
invented as will convince the most credulous. The
principles on which it acts are simple and plain. It is
an a milted fact that this complaint, whether called
Sick Headache, or Nervous Headache, arises prim
arily from the stomach—those who think they have
the Nervous Headache may rest assured that this
organ, the stomach, is the first cause, that th"-sys
tem lias become vitiated or dehihtaieu, ihiough the
stomach, and that only through the same channel
must they expects restoration of ihe natural and
healthy fund ions ol the system. This object, Dr.

'l’he truth of this position cannot be controverted,
and Ihe sooner sufferers with the headache become
convinced of it, the sooner will their suffering end
in restoration of health, Dr. Spoim pledges his

Sir —1 useyour Specific Ointment in my practice,
and cordially recommend it as a most efficient reme
dy for Tumors, Ulcers, White Swellings, Scrofula,
Rheumatic Pains, Chapped Face, Lips and Hands:
and for general external compla : nts. 1 write this
at ihe request of your agent here, who furnishes me
w ith Ihe article, and am pleased to have it in my
power to award honor to merit,
RUFUS R. BEACH, M. D.
Brooklyn, N. Y"., Oct. 29, 1838.
Dear Sir—My daughter,a girl of fourteen, was
sadly afflicted w itn the comp aim that physicians
termed a scald head ; and I feared, independent of
every other evil, that she would be bald in conse
quence. By the recommendation, however, of the
Reverend Mr. Perrin, 1 applied your ointment lo the
afflicted part; and 1 thank God that my child is
now entirely recovered from the disease, and is
getting her hair as fast as can be expected The
cure was effected in lather less than two monlhs;
during which time I used fiv dollars worth of oint
ment ; I had spent upwards of a hundred dollars
duiing the previous three years, without any benefit
whatever.
MARY HOWARD.
I hereby substantiate the truth oi the above
statement
CHRISTOPHER HOWARD.
1 know the above statement to be coircct, and I
; can add from experience that “ Harrison’s Specific
I Ointment,” is an excellent medicine for external
! complaints

Dear Sir—l have to request of you to forward
me, two hundred boxes of Ointment, by the most
immediate conveyance, and v\ it bout regard to ihe
expense ot carriage, as lam quite out, and much
I in want of il.—You know my estimation of your
valuable discovery, and therefore I shall only add,
tnat further experience has increased my enthusi

Dr. Harrison.
Sir—The virtues of your Specific Ointment, have
been long known to me,as I have used none other
in my rather extensive practice forseveral years, and :
if ymt think it would be to your advantage, I can 1
furnish you with twenty certificates of important
cures which it has effected under my own imme
diate inspection : the last being one of a severe
and apparently perpetual nicer,in the back of a
poor woman, Mary Baxter who resides in 216 Di
vision street, which it completely healed in twenty
onedays. My pr&ent chief object in writing to
you, is to learn who is your authorised agent in this
city, for, being in want of a supply of your oint
ment, and itie person Mr. Boyle, from whom I used
to purchase it, having tailed and gone out of busi
ness, 1 am fearful if 1 purchase at random, that I
may he imposed on bv a counterfeit.
Y our obedient servant,
EDWARD RAMSEY, M. D.
Cincinnati, August 9,1837.
Dr Harrison.
Sir, —1 have no hesitation in stating, in reply to
your note, that your “ Specific Ointment” is truly
equal to the majority ol the ends for which you re
commend it. 1 qualify my certificate by the word
majority, as it is my maxim to give no opinion in
medical matters where 1 have had no experience-
In sprains, bruises, inflammations, eruptions, whit
lows, piles, Ac., it is m v universal recipe- I have
also used it on the leg of a hoy which had been
bitten by an adder, and the extraction of the poison,
and ultimate cure was so rapid, that my patient was
a» well as ever in a week ; and has remained so to
this day
Y'ours respectfully,

Dr. Peters —Dear Sir, —By requestor your agent,
Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the
almost miraculous effects of your piPs; and I would
add, that you may make use ol them, in connection
with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I
speak of their merits from experience, as 1 and my
family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three
. years ; and so great a>e the benefits we havereceiv
i ed from them in general, that I would rather pur
i | chase them alien dollars a box than have my house
, | without them. I will not enumerate ihe afflictions
they have relieved us of; but I can assure you they
I were many, and of very opposite natures, which
, | has fully proved to me that your medicine isasim
, ! pie purifier of the system, and therefore equally
, j the enemy disease. I will mention one
case. 1 have a sister who had been for a long pe
riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and
was brought by it to the very verge of the grave.
I She was attended by the most eminent physicians
that money could procure; but all their elicits to
restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer
-1 lugs were fruitless ; and accordingly,we all consid
; ered her immediate death as inevitable. By good
! fortune, however, as she w r as in this situation, ex
pect ng every day to be her last, your pillo were
introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal
pable were their effects that three doses visibly re
-1 lieved her, and in less than three months she was
1 perfectly restored to health. This case, I and all
. who were witness of it, (but more especially the
sulfering party,) considered to be the next thing to
I miraculous; and yet I could mention many more
. of an equally desperate nature, in which yourpills
f were equally successful in rescuing the patients
, from the jaws of death. Need I add that the popu
larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in
this section of the country ? But this 1 presume
you know from the immense quantity you dispose
of I may mention, however, that notwithstanding
» its general use, I never heard an individual complain
‘ of its elfccts. My residence is I2miles from Jiai

: t intents of regard, your ob’t servant.

‘ To Dr. Peters, —Sir—For upward- of fifteen
months, I have been cruelly afflicted with Fever
and Ague; and during the time could find nothing—
though I had applied to every thing that gave me
any tiling like permanent relief. At length, how -
i ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one
> of our best ph\sicians, and lam most grateful and
[ j happy in being able to add, that 1 had scarcely used
■ two boxes when 1 found that they had restored me

it is eagerly inquired for throughout ihe civilized

the benefits of his speculation.
“Le Cordial De Lucine,” or, in English, “ fno
Lueina Cordial.” is a general imigorator of ih e
human frame ! In all the various cases of languor
lassitude, and debilitation ; it is an unfailing rime.’
dy ; as it is equally its province to impart cheerful
ness and decision to the mind, os health and vigor
to ihe body But the peculiar virtue on which
celebrity is based, is the facility and certainly with
which it restores the virile powers when thev have
been destroyed by disease.lime,recklessness,orany
of ihe numerous causes which terminate in tue
prostration of those functions.
In common with the generality of really good
medicines, this Cordial contains nothing of a mer
curial or deleterious nature, among the many ingre
dients which compose it ; bulis, al ilie same inne
so simple, yet so efficacious, that while it can reno
vate the prostrated energies of a giant, an mfan
may use it,not only with impunity, but with ad
vantage.
The usages of society are unfortunately such.
that, notwithstanding the benefits which would be
sure to result f rom it, we cannot enter into an analy
sis of this ine-limable Cordial here, or publish many
of the documents which have been received, as
vouchers of the blessings n has conferred on num
bers of despairing individuals. But tr is wc cannot
forbear remarking—that it has been demonstrated
that there is scarcely ever, it any such Bung at all,
as natural barrenness, or as natural imbecility of
ihe procreant fund ions, in either sex ; and therefore,
that these’evils are the effects oi artificial causes,
and may be speedily subdued «.nd removed by the
use ot “ Le Cordial de Lucine.”
i he Lueina Cordial is also in indubitable cure
for the Gleet, and the Fluor Aibus, obstructed, diffi
cult, or painful Menstruation ; also, for the incon
tinence ol Urine,or the involuntary discharge there
of. It is likewise an invaluable and unrivalled
medicine incases of Chronic EruptionsolTheskin,
and in the dropsical affections of the aged.

To Dr. Magnin;—My dear friend—l am mos
gratified at ihe unprecedented popularity of your
“Luc na Cordial,” and am able io hear testimony to
its surprising virtue. J had a patient recently
1.1: , a gentleman ot fortune, who had lor
several years abandoned himself in the vortex oi
dissipation ; and was only reclaimed from it • c
length by the utter prostration of all his virile ener
g es. He was, indeed, reduced to the last extremity
of debility and l istelessncss. f or, if an occasional
flash of excitement warmed his system, the reac
tion was almost immediate, and the result perfect
prostration. 1 had applied all the usual nostrums
in such cases ; but, as I had anticipated, vv.thont
success; and when 1 saw the “Lueina Cordial”
advertised, 1 musi confess that even the great weight
of your name did not give me much hope in it, at
least so far as regarded the case in hand. I Veit
bound to try it, however, and was soon satisfied of
its efficacy; for before a bottle was expended, my
patient gave evidence of the returning elasticity of
bis system.; and lie is now, having used four bcillts,
as well is ever.
The number of documents, such as the above
which have been received bv Mr. Magnin, since the
first appearance of “ Le Cordial tie Lucine,” would
