.Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chi.se have effected
the permanent and accurate re on lion of the in

are usually ventured upon by tho :e who wearother

“ The committee are induced tty the foregoing

TO THE FACULTY AND HEADS OF
FAMILIES.
DR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO—a substitute for Calomel, and
does not belong to the family of quack medicines;
Tor the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx
iously looked for, some one in almost the extreme
North has advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting to
■be made from the stalk, a thing: not more aosuru
ilhan for one to offer meal from the corn stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato
-so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, he holds himself bound, andmhonor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they
profess to be, and will do for ytheis what they
have done for such as raav have used them; as
vhis is a vegetable of great use, ?cd value, it will
doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
■of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
xystem in much better condition than the other
kind ; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel has been giver; to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute. It lias
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of Hate was it
ascertained that they contained alterative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the
day. If you wMi to cleanse the system with a
mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, 'use the Tomato
Pill, of which a supply, we lear i, will soon be in
this city. We all know something about this,

ANTI-BALSAMIC GONORRHOEAL SOLUTION.
Warranted to cure in Five Days,
f ■TMJIS incomparable and invaluable remedy so

success in the Canadas for the last 30 yeais, ap
pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon the
human sj'stem is such that it invariably acts like
a cha rm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagieeable ‘"ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success which has attended it through al! of its
trying circumstances, namely, “live days,”—the
same success which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenothe. or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians. —
VVabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers.
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by VVabenoshe, to
M. Cheveret, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”
is in this, that wherever it alone has been used to
affect a cure, none of those tenacious and disagree -

Dr. Harrison
Sir—The virtues of your Specific Ointment, have
been long known to me,as 1 have used none other
in my rather e xiensive practice torseveral years, and
if y„u think it womd be to your advantage, I can
furnish you with twenty certificates of important
cures which it has effected under my own imme

and apparently p-rpetual ulcer, in the back of a
poor woman, Mary Baxter who resides in 216 Di
vision street, which it completely healed in twenty
onedays. My present chief object in writing to
you, is to learn who is your authorised agent in this
city, for, being in want of a supply of your oint
ment, and the person Mr. Boyle, from whom I used
to purchase it, having failed and gone out of busi
ness, 1 am fearful if Ipurchaseat random, that J
may be imposed on by a counterfeit.
Your obedient servant,

Cincinnati, August 9,1837.
Dr Harrison.
Sir, —I have no hesitation in stating, in reply to
your note, that your “ Specific Ointment” is truly
equal to the majority ol the ends for which you re
commend it. 1 qualify my certificate by the word
majority, as it is my maxim to give no opinion in
medical matters where J have had no experience.
In sprains, bruises, inflammations, eruptions, whit
lows, piles, «sec., it is m, universal recipe. I have
also used it on the leg of a hoy which had been
bitten by an adder, and the extraction of the poison,
and ultimate cure was so rapid, that my patient was
a* well as ever in a week ; and has remained so to
this day
Yours respectfully,

. * HESE Pills are no longer among those of doubt-

hundreds that are daily launched upon the tide of
experiment, and now stand before the public as
high in reputation, and as extensively employed in
alfpartsof the United States, the Canadas, Texas
Mexico, and the West Indies, as any medicine tha«
has ever been prepared for the relief of suffering
man. They have been introduced wherever it was
found possible to carry them ; and there are tut
few towns that do not contain some remarkable
evidences oi theirgood effects. Ihe certificates
that have been presented to the propiietor exceed
twenty thousand! upwards of five hundred of
which are from regular practising physicians, who
are the most competent judges of their merits.
Often have the cures performed by this medicin
been the subject of editorial comment, in variou
newspapers and journals; and it may with truth he
asserted, that no medicine of the kin 1 has ever re
ceived testimonials of greater value thin are at
tached to this.
They are in general use as a family medicine
and there are.lhousands of families who declare they
re never satisfied until they have a supply always
on hand.
They have no rival in curing and preventing
Billious Fevers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver

Piles, Cholic, Female Obstructions, Heartburn,

where a cathartic or aperient is needed They are
exceedingly mild in their operation, producing
neither nausea, griping nor debilitv.
The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a
highly respectable Planter of Wake County, No
Ca ,March 3d, 1S38:
Dr. Peters —Dear Sir, —By request of your agent,
Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the
almost miraculous effects of your piPs; and I would
add, that you may make use oi them, in connection
with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I
speak of their merits from experience,as 1 and my
family have taken upw'ards of thirty boxes in three
. years ; and so great ai*e the benefits we havereceiv
i ed from them in general, that I would rather pur
i chase them at ten dollars a box than have my house
; without them. I will not enumerate ihe afflictions
they have relieved us of; but 1 can assure you they
were many, and of very opposite natures, which
, has fully proved to me that your medicine is a sim
, pie purifier of the system, and therefore equally
, the enemy of every disease. 1 will mention one
case. I have a sister who had been for a long pe
riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and
’ was brought by it to the very verge of the grave.
1 She was attended by the most eminent physicians
1 that money could procure; but all their efforts to
restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer
* ings were fruitless ; and accordingly,we all consid
■ ered her immediate death as inevitable. By good
* fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ox
-1 pect ng every day to be her last, your pills were
1 introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal
‘ pable were their effects that three doses visibly ve
\ lieved her, and in less than three months she was
5 perfectly restored to health. This case, 1 and ail
’ who w ere witness of it, (but more especially the
suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to
j miraculous; and yet I could mention many more
s of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills
f were equally successful in rescuing the patients
3 from the jaws of death. Need I add that the popu
larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in
this section of the country ? But this I presume
you know from the immense quantity you dispose
of. 1 may mention, however, that notwithstanding
» its general use, I never heard an individual complain
* of its effects. My residence is 12 miles from Kal
» eigh, on the road to Fayetteville. I am, with sen
: timents of regard, your ob’t servant.

“Le c ordial De Lucine,” or, in English, “jh e

human frame! In all the various cases of languor
lassitude, and debilitation ; it is an unfailing reme

to the body But the peculiar vinueon which Us
celebrity is based, is the lacilny and certainty with
which it restores the virile powers when they have
been destroyed by disease,time.recklessness.oranr
of the numerous causes which terminate in the
prostration of those functions.
In common with the generality of really good
medicines, thist ordial contains nothing of a ir.er
eurial or deleterious nature, among the many ingre
dients which compose it; hut is, at the same lime
so simple, yet so efficacious, that while it can renol
vatethe prostrated energies of a giant, an infan
may use it,not only with impunity, but with ad
vantage.
The usages of society are unfortunately such
that, notwithstanding she benefits which would be
sure to result from it, we cannot enter mio an analy

of the documents which have been received, as
vouchers ol the blessings it has conferred on mini

forbear remarking—that it has been demonstrated
that there is scarcely ever, if any such thing at all,
as naiural barrenness, or as natural imbecility of
the procreantlunciions,in eithersex ; ami ihere/bre,

To Dr. Magnin ; —My dear friend—l am raos

“Luciia Cordial,” and am able to bear testimony to
its surprising virtue. J had a patient recently,
i M , a gentleman ol fortune, who had ior
several years abandoned himself in the vortex or
dissipation ; and was only reclaimed from it at
length by the tiller prostration of all his virile ener
gies. lie was, indeed, reduced tothe last extreraiiy
of debility and I islelessness, for, if an occasional
flask of excitement warmed his system, the reac
tion was almost immediate, and the result perlect
prostration. I had applied all the usual nostrums
in such cases; but, as 1 had anticipated, without
success; and when 1 saw the “ Lucuia Cordial”
advertised, 1 must confess that even the great weight
of your name did not give me much hope in it, at
least so far as regarded the case in hand. I felt
hound to try it,however, and was soon satisfied of
iis efficacy; for before a bottle was expended, my
patient gave evidence of the returning elasticity of
his system ; and he is now, having used four bullies,
as w ell is ever.
The number of documents, such as the ai>ove
which have been received by Mr. Magnin, since the
