Gnllighan’s Pills, though useful so all diseases
Inch originate in a superabundant :ollcctmn ol
bile in the stomach, are more particul: rly intended
for Fever and Ague. In the first place hey cleanse,
strengthen and give tone to the storna h and bow
els, and create a new and healthy act on through
out the system. They pioduce a nati ral and per
manent appetite; the}' defend the -} tern against |
new or subsequent uttacks of the c seasc; they
assist the various operations of nature >y cleansing
the system of all vitiated, corrupt and: |;rid humors, j
and thus invigorate and reanimate the v hole fi a me.
Possessing a purgative quality, they c; nnct icmain
in the bowels to pioduce such othe diseases as
often follow the injudicious treatment of the fever
and ague. J’hey are composed entire yof vegeta

sexes and of all ages, without the ie I danger of
unpleasant consequences. In fine,t e public are
assured that Gallighan’s Pills possess those inesti
mable virtues, which are requisite no only to ar- ,
rest, but to eradicate and destroy tbi last seeds of
this most d.stressing malady of the a ,man family.
The proprietors solemnly pledge th< nsclvesthat
they do not contain a particle of mi teials in any
shape or form, but are composed entu ;ly of simple
vegetable subr f ances, which either eparately or
combined, and without regard to s? ; or age, are
perfectly harmless in their effects up n the human
system.

THE subscriber has opened an off ;e,atthe Drug

treatment of Hernia 01 Rupture, by leans of these

them for nearly a year, and, did not < elicacy forbid,
he could name several persons wtiol ivebeen radi

others who are in a fairway of b«i ig entirely re

Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chas«; have effected
the permanent and accurate retea ion of the in
testines in every case of Hernia c t erved by the
committee, without material inccr.i snience to the
patient, and often under trials rna e severe than
are usually ventured upon by those fho wear other
trusses; trials that would be impr dent with any
other apparatus known to the cornu ittee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strou terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known leans of me

highest chances of radical cure.”
The fol, owing is from the Southe n Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our wn city.
“ All must admit of the radical ure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are de idedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance can have he instruments

RHEUMATISM.
COHEN’S RHEUMATIC EMBROCATION.—
Dr. M. B. Cohen,proprietor of the universally
celebrated lotion for the cure of Chronic and Infla
matory Rheumatism. Sprains, Lumbago, Pains and
Swellings in the Joints, &c., known as Cohen’s
Rheumatic Embrocation, begs respectfully to refer
all persons suffering from these disea es to the
thousands of cures that his preparation has accom
plished, and to the numerous strange and highly
respectable testimonials which have, from time to
time, been published to that effect in New ork
and other places. So certain and searching is this
Liniment in its operations, even in cases of long
standing, and of an obstinate nature, that it has
i never been known to fail. The following letters I
arc selected Horn hundreds of others of a like de- ;

Since tiie introduction of this remedy to the public,
various empirics have been palmed upon the coun
try, Nostrums and Lotions, and Liniments, and
“Infallible Rheumatic Mixtures,” all of which be

more or less, to injure the system rather than re

in which the Embrocation is held by respectable
men in the medical profession, as well as by the

''■'HlS incomparable and invaluable remedy so
X long known, and used with such unparralleled
success in the Canadas for the last 30 years, ap
pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon the
human system is such that it invariably acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable ‘‘ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success which has attended it through al! of its
trying circumstances, namely, “live days,” —the
same success which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by 31. Cheveres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians. —
Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an a ! most
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by' actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in Amenca, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “ait of its com
position until lie sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, 1 may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers.
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by Wabenoshe, to
>l. Cheveret, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

principles on which it acts are simple and plain. It is

Indeed the_speed and certainty of its operaiions,
have the appearance of miracles ; as ulcers, wounds,

Sir—The virtues of your Specific Ointment, have
been long known to me,as 1 have used none other
in my rather extensive practice lorseveral years, and
if you think it vvouid be to your advantage, I can
luriush you with twenty certificates of important
cures which it has effected under my own imme

and appaiently p-rpetual ulcer, in the back of a
poor woman, Mary Baxter who resides in 216 Di
vision street, which it completely healed in twenty
onedays. My present chief object in writing to
you, is to learn who is your authorised agent in this
city, for, being in want of a supply of your oint
ment, and the person Mr. Boyle, from whom I used
to purchase it, having failed and gone out of busi

may be imposed on by a counterfeit.

1H ESE Pills arc no longer among those of doubt
ful utility. They have passed away from the
hundreds that are daily launched upon the tide of
experiment, and now stand before the public as
high tn reputation, and as extensively employed in
all parts of the United States, the Canadas, Texas
Mexico, and the West Indies, as any medicine that
has ever been prepared for the relief of suffering
man. They have been introduced wherever it was
found possible to carry them ; and there are but
few towns that do not contain some remarkable
evidences of their good effects. The certificate ;
that have been presented to the propiietor exceed
twenty thousand! upwards of live hundred of
which are from regular practising physicians, who
are the most competent judges of their merits.
Often have the cures peifurmed by this medicin
been the subject of editorial comment, in virion
newspapers and journals; and it may with truth be
asserted, that no medicine of the kin 1 has ever re
ceived testimonials of greater value thin are at
i lached to this.
They are in general use as a family medicine
; and there afe, lhousands of families who declare they
re never satisfied until they have a supply always
on hand.

The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a
highly respectable Planter of Wake County, No
Ca,March 3d,1838:
Dr. Peters —Dear Sir, By request of y’our agent,
, Mr. Harrison, 1 send you a few lines respecting the
almost miraculous effects of your piPs; and I would
add, that you may make use of them, in connection
with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I
i speak of their merits from experience, as 1 and my
j family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three
i years ; and so great ape the benefits we have receiv
ed from them in general, that 1 would rather pur
chase them at ten dollars a box than have my house
without them. I will not enumerate ihe afflictions
they have relieved us of; but I can assure you they
were many, and of very opposite natures, which
has fully proved to me that your medicine is a sim
ple purifier of the system, and therefore equally
the enemy of every disease. I will mention one
i case. 1 have a sister who had been for a long pe
riod severely afflicted with dropsy in tlie chest and
was brought by it to the very verge of the grave.
She was attended by the most eminent physicians
that money could procure; but all their efforts to
restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer
ings were fruitless ; and accordingly,we ail consid
ered her immediate death as inevitable. By good
fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex
pecting every day to be her last, your pills were
introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal
pable were their effeqts tiiat three doses visibly re
lieved her, and in less than three months she was
perfectly restored to health. This case, I and all
who were witness of it, (but more especially the
suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to
miraculous; and yet I could mention many more
of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills
were equally successful in rescuing the patients
from the jaws of death. Need I add that the popu
larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in
■ this section of the country ? But this I presume
you know from the immense quantity you dispose
1 of 1 may mention, how ever, that notwithstanding
its general use, I never heard an individual complain
1 of its effects. My residence is 12 miles from Rat
! | eigh, on the road lo Fayetteville. I am, with sen
; tunents of regard, your ob’t servant.
A. G. BANKS.
To Dr. Peters, —Sir—For upward' of fifteen
i months, 1 have been cruelly afflicted with Fever
and Ague; and during the time could find nothing —
' though 1 had applied to every thing that gave me
: any thing like permanent relief. At length, how
! ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one
of our best physicians, and I am most grateful and
happy in being able to add, that 1 had scarcely used
I two boxes when 1 found that they had restored me
to perfect health. Since then, various members of
my family have used them with equal success—
‘ and consequently 1 feel it my duty to apprise 3ou
| of the fact, and to request of you to pubiish this
‘ certificate, as lam anxious to add my public testi
, mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your un
. i rivalled medicine. Respectfully yours,

“Le Cordial De Lucine,” or, in English, “th e

human frame! In all the various cases of languor
lassitude, and debilitation ; it is an unfailing retnt-'
dy ; as if is equally' its province lo impart cheerful
ness and decision to the mind, as health and visor
to the body Bui the peculiar virtueon which ns
celebrity is based, is the facility and certainty with
which it restores the virile powers vv hen they have
been desiro l ed by dis< ase. time, recklessness, or any
of the numerous causes which terminate in the
prostration of ihose functions.
In common with the generality of really good
medicines, I his C ordial contains nothing of a reer.
curial or deleterious nature, among ihe many ingre
dients winch compose it ; but is, al the same lime,
so simple, yet so«fficacious, that while it can reno
vate the presented energies of a giant, an infan
may use it,not only with impunity, but w ith ad
vantage.
The usages of society 7 are unfortunately such,
that, notwithstanding Die benefits which would be
sure to result from it, we cannot enter into an analy
sis of this inc limable Cordial here, or publish many
of the documents w hich have been received, as
vouchers of ihe blessings 11 has conferredon num
bers of despairing individuals. Hull is wc cannot
forbear remarking—that 11 has been demomir&ied
that there is scarcely ever, it any such thing at all,
as natural barrenness, or as natural imbecility ol
ihe procreant fund ions, in either sex ; and therefore,
that theseevils are the effects of artificial causes,
and may be speedily subdued «nd removed by the
use ot “ Le Cordial de Lucine.”
The Lucina Cordial is also tn indubitable cure
for the Gleet, end the Fluor Aibus, obstructed, diffi

length by' the utter prostration of all his vmieener
