considerable sales at $5 224, has since materially
declined. At the opening of the present week
holders gave way and sales were made from stoics
on Monday at $5. On Tuesday sales were made
at $4.94, and since then, down to this morning,
pan els have been sold at $4 S lh, which we quote'
as the current asking rate to-day . Buyers howev

sales also of a lot of piirnc new Western Hams at
10 cents cash ; of nev Baltimore ditto at 11 cents;

HERMITAGE EXTRACT.—This lately in
vented combination of delightful odors, has
acquired a just popularity, not only by reason of
the strength and delicacy, but of the extraordina
ry duration of its perfume. Whilst the strength of
many other extracts and essences is almost as eva
nescent as the bloom of the flowers from which
they are derived, the Hermitage retains its fra
grance for an indefinite length of time, and is
scarce to be removed from the garment on which it
is poured, by washing; hence it is probably the
cheapest and most delightful perfume of our labora
tories.
