Exchange —The market remain? without any
extensive transactions in any description. Sterling
Bills are scarce, but there is only a li nited demand
and the rates are the same as ia«t quoted —say 12

but little alteration to note in Northern Exchange.
The demand lor all descriptions is limited, and is
principally for 60 day bibs on New York, which
have rather an upward tendency.
Freights —Since our report of Wednesday last
very little has been done in European freights.—
The only engagements wheih we have to notice
are two ships for Havre at cent, one for Glas

cotton. Coastwise freights are without materia

PR SI’KCTI S OF
THE REFORMER.
The undersigned propose to publish in Augusta,
Ga. a weekly paper, to he entitled The Reformer,
of extra imperial size, from the 10th of May to
the loth of November next, for One Dollar in
advance. As its name indicates, it will be devoted
exclusively to the cause of Reform, the elevation
of WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON, of Ohio, for
President, and JOHN TYIER, of Virginia, for
Vice President, and the subversion of the present
Administration, —the necessity of reform in which
is becoming every day more and more apparent.—
It will observe a mild, dignified tone, and address
itself to the common sense of every class of citi
zens, for whose benefit it is designed.
This Prospectus is issued under the impression
that the friends of reform will make a united and
zealous effort to give the paper a general circula
tion, in short to send it to the house of every man
who reads. The People want light, and if our
friends will aid us in our work, we shall be able to
counteract the thousand calumnies of the Van
Buren presses, and carry the “war into Africa.”—
In the language of a distinguished co-worker, “All
we ask is to be heard by the people. It is for
them we speak, and if we can get a hearing, we
have no fears of the result,” even in Georgia. —
“The people will vindicate their wrongs, and hurl
their oppressors from office.”
We ask the press throughout this and the ad
joining States, to insert our Prospectus, and we
especially invoke the friends of the cause to be
vigilant in procuring subscribers and forward their
names by mail as early as possible.
The paper will contain nothing but leading mat
ter, being entirely free from all advertisements,
and is p aced at so low a price as to bring it within
the means of every man.

PEDIGREE.
J. R. 11. Acklin, F>q. of Huntsville, Alabama,
certifies as follows : —‘ Tom Tunstall was foaled
mine on the 29th May, 1831. His dam was High
land Mary .and her dam a full-blooded Archie mare;
tne sire of Highland Mary was old PacoleL Tom
Tunstall was sired by o'd Pacific, and he by old
Sir Archie. This is as for as lam able to go, tho’
I am satisfied Tom Tunstall has descended from as
good a stock as any horse in the United States.—
He was a racehorse of the first order, but I lear
will never be able to make a first rate race again,
owing to his leg; it was injured when a. three year
old, in training, as I believe. By addressing Har
dy Cryer, Gallatin, Tennessee, you can get a full
pedigree of the dam of Tom Tunstall.” The same
Mr. Hardy Cryer certifies thus : —“ Highland Maiy
combined as many or more rich crosses of thorougn
breds than any maic ever raised in Tennessee.—
She was got by the noted horse Pacolet, the son of
imported Citizen ; her dam Rosey Carey by Sir
Archie; grand-dam Sally Jones by the imported ■
horse Traveller, called Big Ben or Charlemaine,
(son of O’Kelle; ’s Flclipse, and one of the purest
importations of the last century;) great grand-dam
by the imported horse Wrangler; great-great-grand
dam O’Possum by imported Shark; great-great
great-grand-dam by the celebrated American quar
ter race horse, Goode’s old Twigg; great-great
great-great-grand-dam by imported F'earnaught;
great-gicat-groat-great-great-grand-dam by Lee’s
old Matk Anthony out of a mare by imported Mou
key.” On the sire’s side it is deemed unnecessary
to trace be3 - ond Sir Archie. It is presumed none
will require a purer or better attested pedegree!—

The waters of the fine mineral spring, near the

those chronic diseases which require the stimula

well cacuiated in every respect for the comfort and
enjoyment of the valetudinarian and those who
seek recreation in the country. Several fine streams

hills and dales abounding with game, present un- .

Every exertion will be used and every facility

NOTICE TO
I AM instructed by the Colonel to publish the
following extract from the Militia i aws of
this State now of force, for the information of all
those against whom executions have been issued
and are now outstanding, —and add that “ignorance
of the law excuseth no man.”
Prince’s Digest, pp. 604, Sec. 24, latter clause:
—“And the commanding officer of Regiments or
Battalions, upon receiving the affidavit of any de
linquent, ( previous to the issuing of execution J
properly attested by any officer aulhorized to ad
minister the same, and showing good cause why ho
should not have been fined, may direct the Clerk to
stay the issuing of Execution until the sitting of
the succeeding Court, when said affidavit shad be
laid before the Court, who may, upon the merits
thereof, remit or continue said fine, and direct that
it be collected forthwith.
“And the Clerk shall immediately after the ex
piration of thirty days, (that is, after the sitting
of the Court) issue executions against each de
linquent who has failed to pay the fine assessed
against him, or to file the affidavit hereinbefore re
quired, signed by himself and countersigned by|the
presiding officer of the Court.or in his absence by
any other officer who was a member of the Court,
and directed to the Provost Marshal of the Regi
ment. * * Who shall proceed to collect the
same under the same rules and regulations in re
gard to Constables’ Sales generally ; and such ex
ecutions shall have the same dignity as though they
had been issued by a Justice of the Peace,” * * ♦
It frequently so happens that individuals (de
faulters) neglect to atten 1 Courts of Inquiry, to
render in their excuse." or absence from parade;
they also neglect to file with the Clerk their affi
davit, according to law. And yet, when the col
lecting officer calls on them to settle their fines,
they plead some trifling excuse.
Now, this is to notify all such, that a’ter the ex
piration of 30 days after the sitting of any Court ■
of Inquiry, no excuse can be rendered, nor will any
be accepted, unless made according to the requisi
tions of the law as above published. lam also
instructed to state that J. H. Clarke, Esq. has been
appointed Provost Marshal of the Regiment. Ex
ecutions have been placed in his hands, with in
structions to enforce the law rigidly.

May 11,1840. Clerk 10th Regiment.
MOFFAT’S VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICINE*?
f i'HESE medicines are indebted for their name
M. to tin ir manifest and sensible action in puri
lying the spring and channels ot life, and enduing
them with renewed tone and vigor. In manv hun
dred certified cases which has been made public,
and in almost ever} species ol disease to which
the human frame is liable, the happy effects of
MOFFAT’S LIFE PILLS AM) PHENIX BIT
TERS have been gratefully and publicly nc
l nowledged by the persons benefiiited, and who
were previously unacquainted with the beau’ilully
philosophical principles upon which they are
i compounded, and upon which they eonsequently
act.
The LIFE MEDICINES recommend themselves
in diseases ot every form and description. Their
first operation is to loosen from the coats ol the
stomach and bowels, the various impurities and
crudities con-tantly settling around them ; and to
remove the hardened faeces which collect in the
convolusions of the smallest intestines. Other
medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave
such collected masses behind as to produce habitu
. al costivencss w ith ell its train ofevils. or in a sud
j den diarrhoea, with its eminent dangers. This tact
. is well known to ail regular anatomists, who ex
. amine the human bowels after death ; and hen~e
’ the prejudice of those well informed men against
quack medicines—or medicines prepared and her
’ aided to the public bv ignorant p« rsons. 'J he se
eond effect of the Life Medicines is to cleanse the
kidneys and the bladder, and by this means, the
liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which
entirely depends upon the regularity of the urinary
organs. Theblocd, which lakes its red color from
the agency of the liver and the lungs before it
pa.s>es intolhe heat, being thus purified by them
’ and nourished by food coming from a clean atom- 4
ach, courses freely thiough the veins, renews every
! part of the system, and triumphantly mounts the
1 banner of health in the blooming cheek.
Moffat’s Vegetable Life Medicines have been
1 thoroughly attested, and pronounced a sovereign
■ remedy for Dyspepsia, Flatulency, Palpitation of
the Heart, Loss of Appetite, Heart-burn and Head
i ache. Restlessness, 111-temper, Anxiety, Languor
ami Melancholy, Cosliveness, Diarrhoea, Cholera,
Fevers of all kinds, Rheumatism, Gout, Dropsies
of all kind. Gravel, Worms, Asthma and Constimp
tion, Bcur\>, Ulcers, Inveterate Sores, Scorbutic
Eruptions and Bad Complexions, Eruptive com
, plaints. Sallow, Cloudy, and other disagreeable
, Complexions, Salt Rheum, Erysi|«elus, Common
Colds and influenza and various other complaints
which afflict the human frame. In fever and
ague, particularly, the Life Medicines have been
most eminently successful ; so much so that in the
Fever and Ague dislncts, Physicians almost uni
versally prescribe them.
All that Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is
to be particular in taking the Life Medicines strictly
according lo the directions. It is not by a news
paper notice, or any thing that he himself may say
in their favor, that he hopes to gain credit. It is
alone hy the resuh of a fair trial.
