The following is the language of the com mittee ot the Philadelphia Medical bociety on the Radical Cure of Hernia. “ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected the permanent and accurate retention of the in testines in every case of Hernia observed by the committee, without material inconvenience to the patient, and often under trials more severe than are usually ventured upon by those who wearother trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any other apparatus known to the committee.” “ The committee are induced by the foregoing conclusions to recommend, in strong terras, the in struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of the profession, as the best known means of me chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the highest chances of radical cure.” The following is from the Southern Medical and 1 Southern Journal, published in our own city. “ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia, and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best yet invented to effect the object.” Persons from a distance can have the instruments applied, upon application at the office, and all ne cessary information given to enable them to adjus it themselves. Respectfully yours, CHARLES P. EMERSON, M. D. New Orleans, Match 20th, 1838 j Dr. Harrison. Sir— The virtues of your Specific Oinlmcnt, have been long known to me,as 1 have used none other in my rather extensive practice for several years, and ! if y*m think it wouid be to your advantage, I can furnish you with twenty certificates of important cures which it has effected under my own imme- ! diate inspection : the last being one of a severe ; and apparently perpetual ulcer,in the back of a I poor woman, Mary Baxter who resides in 216 Di- ! ! vision street, which it completely healed in twenty j | onedays. My present chief object in writing to you, is to learn who ts your aut horised agent in this | city, for, being in want of a supply of your oiut- ; ! ment, and the person Mr. Boyle, from whom I used 1 i to purchase it, having failed and gone out of bust- j ! ness, I am fearful if 1 purchase ai random, that 1 j may be imposed on by a counterfeit. ( Your ooedient servant, EDWARD RAMSEY, M. D. Cincinnati, August 9,1837. | ! Dr Harrison. Sir, —1 have no hesitation in staling, in reply to 1 your note, that your “‘Specific Ointment” is truly equal to the majority of the ends for which you re i commend it. 1 qualify ray certificate by the word rnajomy, as it is my maxim to give no opinion in i medical matters where 1 have hud no experience. In sprains, bruises, inflammations, eruptions, w hit lows, piles,&c.,it is in. universal recipe. I have ako used it on the leg of a boy which had been b.tien by an adder, and the extraction of the poison, and ultimate cure was so rapid, that ray patient was a» well as ever in a week ; and has remained so to this day Yours respectfully, HENRY JACOBS, JI. The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, bv a highly respectable Planter of Wake County, No Ca ,March 3d,1338: Dr. Peters—Dear Sir, By requestor your agent, f Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the almost miraculousetiects of your pil's ; and 1 w ould add, that you may make use ol them, in connection with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I speak of their merits from experience, as 1 and my family have taken upwards of thirty boxes In three years ; and so great are the benefits we have receiv ed from them in general, that I would rather pur chase them at ten dollars a box than have my house without them. I will not enumerate Ihe afflictions they have relieved us of; but I can assure you they were many, and of very opposite natures, which has fully proved to me that your medicine is a sirn- j pic purifier of the system, and therefore equally the enemy of every disease. I whl mention one j case. I have a sister who had been fer a long j*- rioc severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and was brought Ly it to the very verge of the grave. She was attended by the most eminent physicians that money could procure; but all their efforts to j restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer ings were fruitless ; and accordingly, we ah consid- * ered her immediate death as inevitable. J.y good . fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex- 1 pect ng every day to be her last, your pills were introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal pable were their effects that three Coses visibly re lieved her, and in less than three months she was perfectly restored to health. This case, I and ail who were witness of it, (but more especially the suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to miraculous; and yet 1 could mention many more ■ of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills were equally successful in rescuing the patients i fiom the jaws of death. Need I add that the popu- I larilyof your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in this section of the country ; But this I presume you know from the immense quantity you dispose | of 1 may mention, however, that notwithstanding | its general use, I never heard an individual complain of its effects. My residence is 12 miles from hat- | eigh, on the road to Fayetteville. I am, with sen timent'. of regard, your ob’t servant. A. G. BANKS. To Dr. Peters, —Sir —For upward- of fifteen months, 1 have been Ciuelly afflicted with Fever i and Ague; and during the time could find nothing — though 1 had applied to every thing that gave me any ruing I ike permanent relief. At length, how ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one of our best pliy sicians, and I am most grateful and . happy in being able to add, that I had scarcely used two boxes when I found that they had restored me to perfect health. Since then, various members of ; my family have used them with equal success — and consequent!}- 1 feel it my duty to apprise you of the fact, and to request of you to publish this certificate, as I am anxious to add my public testi mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your un- j rivalled medicine Respectfully yours, THEODORE JAMES.
