Dr. -Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of which, he holds Himself bound, and in honor pledg ed to prove by their use, that they arc all that they profess to be, and will do for otheis what they have done for such as mav have used them; as .his is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will doubtless be valuable information to families to ! know that the Yellow arc just doubly as valuable j as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much ! of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used j as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the ; system in much better condition than the other kind ; many will recollect with what trembling anxiety calomel has been given to children, and how they then wished for a substitute. It has long been known that the Tomato contained ca thartic principles, but not until of late was it ascertaine i that Zney con tamed alterative and diu retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that they know what it is .Were it a patent mystery, they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they I justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the day. All are ready to ex claim, onr souls are sick, our ears are pained with every day’s reports of ills and specifics. This state of the public mind would seem to forbid any person of delicate mind from sending forth any new dis coveries in medicine, to the trial of the public.— Still, motives of delicacy should not prevent us from making known real which we are con fident will benefit our fellow men. This latter consideration has prompted che author of these bit ters to make them known. He knows they are high ly efficacious, for he himself, his wife, and many friends, have given them a thorough trial. He was himself a confirmed dyspeptic,so much, that even his recollection was gone. By using these bitters he has been restored to health. Mrs. Cosby was troubled for many years, but was restored to health by the use of these bitters. This has been the case with many of his friends. Mr. Coeby in sending forth this advertisement, addresses those who know him. He has been for many years a resident of Augusta, at which place he can at any time be consulted about the bitters. Sir, —1 have no hesitation in stating, tn reply to your note, that your “ Specific Ointment” is truly equal to the majority of the ends for which you re commend it. 1 qualify ray certificate by the word majority, as it is my maxim to give no opinion in medical matters where 1 have had no experience, in sprains, bruises, inflammations, eruptions, w hit lows, piles, Ac., it is ra» universal recipe. I have also used it on the leg of a boy which had been bitten by an adder, and the extraction of the poison, and ultimate cure was so rapid, that my patient was as well as ever in a week ; and has remained so to this day Yours respectfully, HENRY JACOBS, M. D. Extract of a letter from Dr. J. W. Sander*, of Louisville, Ky October 8, 1837. “ I am prepared to say, that for Rheumatic Pains, and the isore Breasts of females, Harrison’s Specific Ointment has no superior, if indeed it has any equal in the whole catalogue of external medicine*, as hiiowiii and prescribed in this country.” Extract of a letter from Dr. Potts, ol Utica, N.Y., Dated July 28, 1839. “ Harrison’s Specific Ointment” is, in my opinion, a most important discovery ; and is particularly effi cient in scrofulas, ulcers, sore legs, eruptions, and general outward complaints. I speak of its merits from an experience ol four years.” New Orleans, January 4th, 1837. This will certify that my lace and neck were al most entirely covered by an enormous ringworm; and that after the Inal of a variety of ineffectual remedies, I was completely cured of it in two months, by the use ol Harrison’s Specific Ouu ment.” EDGAR FOSSET. They have passed away from the hundreds that are daily launched upon the tide of experiment, and now stand before the public as Mhigh in reputation, and as extensively employed in parts of the United States, the Canadas, Texas Mexico, and the West Indies, as any medicine that has ever been prepared for the relief of suffering man. They have been introduced wherever it was found possible to carry them ; and there are but few towns that do not contain some remarkable evidences of their good effects. The certificates that have been presented to the propiietor exceed twenty thousand! upwards of five hundred of which are from regular practising physicians, who are the most competent judges of their merits. Often have the cures performed by this medicin been the subject of editorial comment, in variou newspapers and journals; and it may with truth be asserted, that no medicine of the kinl has ever re ceived testimonials of greater value thin are at tached to this. They are in general use as a family medicine and there are, thousands of families who declare they ■ 4 're never satisfied until theyqhave a supply always .^fhand. They have no rival in curing and preventing Bilhous Fevers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver Complaints, Sick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma, Dropsy, Rheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen, Piles, Cholic, Female Obstructions, Heartburn, Furred Tongue, Nausea, Distension of the Stomach and Bowels, Incipient Diarrhoea,Flatulence,Hat»itu •> al Costiveness, Loss of Appetite, Blotched or Sallow ' Complexion, and in cases of torpor of the bowels, where a cathartic or aperient is needed They are exceedingly mild in their operation, producing ’ neither nausea, griping nor debility. The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a highly respectable Planter of Wake County, No Ca,March 3d,1636: Dr. Peters —Dear Sir, Byrequestof yourageut, * Mr. Harrison, 1 send you a few lines respecting the almost miraculous effect* of your pißs; and I would j add, that you may make use ol them, in connection with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I ' speak of their merits from experience, as 1 and my i family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three years ; and so great ape the benefits we have receiv ed from them in general, that 1 would rather pur chase them al ten dollars a box than Lave my house without them. I will not enumerate Ihe afflictions i they have relieved us of; but I can assure you they were many, and of very opposite natures, w hich ha* fully proved to me that your medicine is a sim ple purifier of the system, and therefore equally 1 the enemy of every disease. I will mention one * case. I have a sister who had been for a iong pe -1 riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and was brought by it to the very verge of the grave. She was attended by the most eminent physicians ’ that money could procure; but all their efforts to ’ restore her to health, or even to mitigate her soffer ’ ings were fruitless ; and accordingly, we all consid ered her immediate death as inevitable. By good r , fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex j pectmg every day to be her last, your pills were t introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal . pable were their eflects that three doses visibly re j lieved her, and in le*S than three months she was . perfectly restored to health. This case, I and all s who were witness of it, (but more especially the 1 suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to i miraculous; and yet I could mention many more -of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills i were equally successful in rescuing the patients ! from the jaws of death. Need I add that the popu larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in r this section of the country ? But this i pre*ume you know from the immense quantity you dispose 1 of. I may mention, however, that notwithstanding * its general use, I never heard an individual compUm f of its effects. My residence is 12 miles from Ral- B eigh, on the road to Fayetteville. I am, with sen timents of regard, your ob’t servant. A. G. BANKS. To Dr. Peters, —Sir—For upward s of fifteen » months, 1 have been ciuelly afflicted with Fever and Ague; and during the time could find nothing— * though 1 had applied to every thing that gave me any thing like permanent relief. At length, hovv ’ ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one ■ i of our best pin sicians, and I am most grateful and happy in being able to add, that I had scarcely used j two boxes when 1 found that they had restored me to perfect health. Since then, various members of ( i my family have used them with equal success— ( and consequently 1 feel it my duty to apprise you of the fact, and to request of you to publish this ceititicate, as I am anxious to add my public testi , j mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your uu . 1 rivalled medicine.
