At a regular meeting of the Board of Direc °f , B i nk of »he State of Gcorgta. on Friday, 20th March, 1840. the follov*ngeipre«- ston of toe op, mon of the Board of Directors of this Lank was adopted in response to the commu nications therein referred to, and ordered to be entered upon the minutes. A communication from the ollice at Eatontos, requesting “the views of this Board, in reference to the law of the last Legislature, requiring an 1 oath in relation to the indebtedness of indmdaal directors, was taken into consideration. A letter received from Mr. Hcnrv, Cashier of the Branch at Augusta, was also laid before the board, communicating the opinion of the Direc lors at that Office, with regard to the-further re quisitions upon the Banks by the two acts of the last Legislature, by which it appears that there is a coincidence with those entertained here. * This Board determines tomake general re turns ot the Bank to the Legisfatare as hereto fore, agreeably to the law of the 24th December, 1832, and recommend to the Branches, to make each its separate return of its state and condition, in conformity with the first section of the act re ferred to by the Eatonton Office, at the same lime that they make their report to the principal Bank. ihe Bi>ard of Directors confidently affirm,, that the farther returns required by the acts of the last Legislature, have aot been called for by ‘ any improper conduct gu tfie part of this Bank, ! and that those acts seriously interfere with essen- i tial vested chartered and individual rights—and i as this Bank and the other Banks of the city j have made unceasing efforts to preserve a good i currency, it is-confidently hoped that the candid, I fair and honest exposition which they have serni- ! annually made of their state and condition, and ! which they will continue to do, will sustain the reputation and high standing of the Dank and all its Branches. The Board, however, will be ever ready and willing to expose the books, and ex hibit the condition of. the Bank, and its entire management to the moot scrutinizing, examina tion of commissioners that the Legislature may appoint for that purpose, as they cheerfeilly did upon a previous occasion, when a former Legis lature directed an investigation into the affairs of all the Banks of the Slate.
