Radical Cure oMlenuaor Rupture, By Dr.
Chase’s Improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
fIIHE subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
1 store of .Messrs, J. J. Robertson fx Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
U'tly celebrated instruments* He has now used
them for nearly a year, and, didnot delicacy* forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured , of this truly distressing and dangerous
| affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee of the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
! Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
i committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wcarcther
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatu- known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by tiie foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
i struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
j the profession, as the best known means of me
; chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The following is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to eifecl the object.”
Persons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to'enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, w*ho are laboring under
this alllicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate, from someresponsi*

The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable
to every variety of reducible rupture.

TO THE FACULTY AND HEADS OF

BR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
does not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty*, or any one else that may

iously looked for, some one in almost the extreme

than for one to offer meal from the corn stalk, to
say* nothing of the difficulty* of raising the Tomato
so far North.
Dr. Mile?, of Cincinnati, is tire proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, lie holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they
profess to be, and will do for cthcis w*hat they
have dune for such as mav have used them ; as
.his is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of tire bapatine, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind ; many* will recollect with what trembling
anxiety* calomel has been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute. It lias
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it
J mat .aey contameu alterative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent stery*,
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly* do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the
day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a
mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato
Pill, of which a supply*, we learn, will soon be in
his city. We all know something aoout uus.

The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”

VOUS AND SICK HEAD ACHE, has the satis
faction to make known, that he has a remedy which
by removing the causes cures effectually and perma

families who have considered Sick Headache a con

sures them that they are mistaken, and labouring

but actually eradicated by tire use jf his remedy.
It is the result of scientific research, and is entirely
of a different character from advertised patent medi

HEADACHE, SICK OR NERVOUS.
The extraordinary reputation that Dr. Spohn’s
remedy for this distressing compaint is every day
gaining is certainly a matter qlniueh astonishment,
That so m tch suffering should have existed lor ages
w ithout any discovery of an effectual preventive, or
cure, is truly a subject of much regret but Dr. S.
now assures the pubuc that such a remedy has been
invented as will convince the most credulous. The
principles on w hich it acts are simple and plain. It is
an ac nutted fact that this complaint, whether called
Sick Headache, or Nervous Headache, arises prim
arily from the stomach —those who think they have
the Nervous Headache may rest assured that ibis
organ, the Aomach, is the first cause, that th Q sys
tem has become vitiated or debihtaied, Enough ihe

must they expect s restoration of ihe natural and
healthy functions of the system. This object, Dr.

The truth of this position cannot be controverted,

convinced ot it, the sooner will their suffering end
in restoration of health, Dr. Spohir pledges lus

Dear Sir—My daughter,a girl of lourietn, was
sadly afflicted vvitn theeprap aim that physicians j
termed a scald head ; and 1 feared, independent of
every other evil, that she would be baid in conse

Reverend Mr. Perrm, 1 applied your ointment to the
afflicted part; and I thank God that my child is
now entirely recovered from the disease, and is
getting her hair as fast as can be expected. The
cure was effected in rather Jess than two months;
during whicti time 1 used fiv dollars worth of oint

Sir—The virtues of your Specific Ointment, have
been long known to me,as 1 have used none other
in my rather t xiensive practice lor several years, and
if think it would bo to your advantage, I can
furnish you w ilh twenty certificates of important
cures w idt h it has effected under my own imme

and apparently perpetual ulcer,in the back of a
poor woman, Mary Baxter who resides in 216 Di
vision street, which it completely healed in twenty
ouedays. My present chief object in writing to
you, is to learn who is your authorised agent, in this
city, for, being in want of a supply of your oint
ment, and the person Mr. Boyle, from whom I used
to purchase it, having tailed and gone out of busi
ness, I am fearful if 1 purchase at random, that I
may be iiapoised on bv a counterfeit.
Your obedient servant,

Sir, —I have no hesitation in stating, in reply to
your note, that your “ Specific. Ointment” is truly
equal to the majority of the ends for w hich you re
commend it. 1 qualify my certificate by the word
majorit3,asit is ray maxim to give no opinion m
medical matters where 1 have had no experience,
in sprains, bruises, inflammations, eruptions, w hit
lows, piles, Ac., it is in v" universal recipe. I have
aEo used it on the leg of a boy which had been
bitten by an adder, and the extraction of the poison,
and ultimate cure was so rapid, that my patient was
as well as ever in a week ; and has remained so to
this day

A ful utility. They have passed away from the
hundreds that arc daily launched upon the tide of
experiment, and now stand before' the public as
hi-'h in reputation, and as extensively emploved in
all parts of the United States, the Canadas, Texas
Mexico, and the West Indies, as any medicine that
has ever been prepared for the relief of suffering
man. They have been introduced wherever it was
found possible to carry them ; and there are but
few towns that do not contain some remarkable
evidences of their good effects. The certificates
that have been presented to the propnetor exceed
twenty thousand! upwards of live hundred of
which are from regular practising physicians, who
are the most competent judges of their merits.
Often have the cures performed by this medicin
been the subject of editorial comment, in variou
newspapers and journals ; and it may with truth be
asserted, that no medicine of the kin i has ever re
ceived testimonials of greater value thin are at
tached to this.
They are in general use as a family medicine
and there arc.thousands of families who declare they
re never satisfied until they have a supply always
on hand.
They have no rival in curing and preventing
Billious Fevers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver
Complaints, Sick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma,
Dropsy, Rheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen,
Piles, Cholic, Female Obstructions, Heartburn,

Complexion, and in cases of torpor of the bowels,
where a cathartic or aperient is needed They are
exceedingly mild in their operation, producing
neither nausea, piping nor debilitv.

Dr. Peters —Dear Sir, Byrequcstof your agent,
Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the
almost miraculous effects of your pil’s; and I would
add, that you may make use ol them, in connection
with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I
speak o{ their merits Irom cxpciience, as I and my
family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three
; years; and so great are the benefits we have receiv
ed from them in general, that I would rather pur
i chase them at ten dollars abox than have my home
vv itaout them. I will not enumerate ihe afflictions
j they have relieved us of; but I can assure you they
I were many, and of very opposite natures, which
has fully proved to me that your medicine is a sim
ple purifier of the system, and therefore equally
the enemy of every disease. I will mention one
case* I have a sister who had been for a long pc
; riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and
j was brought by it to the very verge of the grave.
Fhc* was attended by the most eminent physicians
that money could procure; but all their efforts to
restore her to health, or even to mitigate hersuffer
i ings were fruitless ; and accordingly,we all consid
| ered her immediate death as inevitable. By good
fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex
pect ng every day to be her last, your pills were
introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal
pable were their effects that three doses'visibdy re
lieved her, and in less than three months she was
perfectly restored to health. This case, 1 and all
who were witness of it, (butmore especially the
j suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to
miraculousand yet I could mention many more
of an equally desperate nature, in which your pill;
were equally successful in rescuing the patients
from the jaws of death. Need I add that the popu
larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in
| this section of the country r But this I presume
i you know from the immense quantity you dispose
I of. I may mention, however, that notwithstanding
j its general use, I never heard an individual corn; .
j of its effects. My residence is 12 miles from Rai-
J cigh, on the road to Fayetteville. I am, with sen
timents of regard, your ob’t servant.
A. G. BANKS.
To Dr. Peters, —Sir—For upward s of fifteen
months, 1 have been cruelly afflicted with l ever
and Ague; and during the time could find nothing—
though lhad applied to every thing that gave me
any thing like permanent relief. At length, how
ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one
of oar best physicians, and I am most grateful and
happy in being able to add, that 1 had scarcely used
two boxes when I found that the}' had restored me
to perfect health. Since then, various members of
rny family have used them with equal success—
and consequently 1 feel it my duty to apprise you
i of the fact, and to request of you to publish this
! certificate, as lam anxious to add my public testi
| mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your un
rivalled medicine. Respectfully yours,

Communication received from the eminent Dr. J.

Dr. J. P. Peters —My Dearßir—On the night of
the llthinst.,l was called in great haste to the
house of a fellow ci.izen, (Mr. Lee,) where 1 found
his son laboring under a most alarming attack of
Cynanche Tracaealis (Croap) and apparently be
yond the aid of remedy. By the greatest good for
tune, however, I had in my pocket a broken box of
your pills —four of w hich 1 administered, with
such immediate happy effect that in a few minutes
rny patient was at ease, and out of danger. This
case, in connection with my name is at your ser
vice—and 1 have the pleasure to be able to inform
you that your inestimable medicine is in such great

net one of them who does not use it in his private
practice. Yours most resp’y.

October 3, 183",
To Dr. Magnin;—My,dear friend —l am wus
gratified at the unprecedented popularity ot your
“Lucma Cordial,” and am able to near testimony to
its surprising virtue. I had a patient recently,
1 M , a gentleman ol fortune, who had for
several years abandoned himself in the vortex ot
dissipation ; and was only reclaimed from it at
length by the utter prostration of all his virile ener
gies. He was, indeed, reduced to the last cxi remit)'
of debility and l.istekssne.ss, lor, if an occasional
flash of excitement warmed his system, the reac
tion was almost immuliate, and trie result pcrlec:
prostration. I had applied all the usual nostrum*
in such cases; but, us 1 had anticipated, without
success; and when 1 saw the “Lucma Cordial”
advertised, 1 must confess that even the great weight
of your name did not give me much hope m it, at
least so far as regarded the case m hand. I feit
bound to try it, howev-.r, and was soon satisfied oi
its efficacy; for before a bottle was e.vj>endcd, ray
patient gave evidence of the returning elasticity of
his system ; and he is now-, having used four buttle*,
as well its ever.
The number of documents, such as the above
which have been received by Mr. Magnin, since the
first appearance of “ Le Cordial de Lucine,” vvuuiJ
