G. Cotting, Washington, Georgia. IN offering a new Journal to the public for pa tronage, it is customary and proper to set forth , in a prospectus, the principles which its conduc tors intend ’o support, and to give such pledges as to its management that its patrons may not at any future time find themselves deceived or disappoint ed in its course. 1 And first, as to our political creed. Believing , that there is at present \ crisis in our national as ,, fairs, which requires the hearty and unremitting e exertions of every true lover of his country to - preserve it from the destiuction that menaces it y that a powerful and fatal influence is now exerted upon our institutions by ambitious and unprinci pled politicians; that the Constitution, that safe ’ guard of our liberties, is in danger from their ma chinations, and that the State Rights doctrines and - the principles of the revolutionary patriots only, can preserve it inviolate, we shall give our unde viating support to those doctrines. Our motto shall be “Principles and Men;’’ therefore, of the prominent candidates for the Presidency, now te i lore the people, we choose those for our support i who we believe will carry out State Rights mea i sures, viz: General WILLIAM HENRY HAR , RISON and JOHN TYLER, gentlemen wffiom even - their enemies allow to be true patriots and honest i men. s As the title of our journal indicates, we shall devote much of its columns to the interests of a Agriculture. We shall endeavor to give to the , Planter the latest and best information of the im s provements, now almost daily taking place in his t business. We are aware that in the strife of party, agriculture, the foundation on which society rests, t has been too much neglected hy the press, and that e some “Reform” is needed in this respect, f All the aid incur power shall be given to the cause of literature, and we shall endeavor to ren der the Gazette as interesting as possible to every class of readers.
