PERHAPS mere is riommg mor? calculated to disgust tne public eye than the innumerable advertisements of noslrurns that are constantly ap pearing in the public prints. All are ready to ex claim, our souls are sick, our ears are pained with every day’s reports of ills and specifics. This state of the public mind would seem to forbid any person of delicate mind from sending forth any new dis coveries in medicine, to the trial of the public.— Still, motives of delicacy should not prevent us from making known real discoveries, which we are can fidont will benefit our fellow’ men. Tins latter consideration has prompted ihe author of these hit ters to make t hem known. He know s they are high ly efficacious, for he himself, his wife, and many friends, have given them a thorough trial. He was himself a confirmed dyspeptic, so much, that even his recollection was gone. By using these hitters he lias been restored to health. Mrs. Cosby was troubled for many years, but was restored to health by t lie use ol these hitters. This has been the case with many of his fri nds. Mr. Cosby in sending forth this advertisement, addresses those who know him. He has been for many years a resident ol Augusta at w hich [dace he can at any time ba consulted about ihe bitters. He has now used them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid, he could name several persons wdio have been radi cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous alfection, by the useof these Trusses, besides many others who are in a fairway of being entirely re lieved. The following is the language of the com mittee of the Philadelphia Medical bociety on the Radical Cure of Hernia. “ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected the permanent and accurate retention of the in testines in every case of Hernia observed by the committee, without material inconvenience to the patient, and often under trials more severe than are usually ventured upon by those who wearother trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any other apparatus known to the committee.” “ The committee are induced by the foregoing conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in struments of Dr. Chase to the conlidence of the profession, as the best known means of me chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the highest chances of radical cure.” The foLowiug is from the Southern Medical and Southern Journal, published in our own city. “ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia, and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best yet invented to effect tbc object.” Pcrsonsfrom a distance can have the instruments applied, upon application at the otiice, and all ne cessary information given to enable them to adjus it themselves. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and does not belong to the family of quack medicines; for the reason that the component parts are made known to the faculty, or any one else that may wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx iously looked for, some one in almost the extreme North has advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting u be made from the stalk, a thing not more aosuiu than for one to offer meal from the corn stalk, to say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato so far North. Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of which, lie holds himself bound, and in honor pledg ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they profess to be, and will do for othcis what they have done for such as mav have used them; as .his is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will doubtless be valuable information to families to know’ that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much of the hapatiue, or active principle, and when used as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the system in much better condition than the other kind; many will recollect with what trembling anxiety calomel has been given to children, and how’ they then wished for a substitute. It has long been known that the Tomato contained ca thartic principles, but not until of late was it, ajcertainti tnat ,-iey contained alterative ami diu retic properties. 'The Faculty embrace and use the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that they know what it is Were it a patent mystery, they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a mild, sa-e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato Pill, of whicii a supply, we learn, will soon be in his city. TBAHIS incomparable and invaluable remedy so long known, and used with such unparralfeled success in the Canadas for the last 30 yeais, ap pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon the human system is such that it invariably acts like a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.” This prize obtains its own name from the certain success liich has attended it through all of its trying c cumstances, namely, “five days,”—the same su .ess which followed it in a Northern lati tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated | Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu siness in the North-west with the Indians.— Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable success throughout his two tribes. Its known and valued virtues have already enriched to an almost incredible extent the children of this warlike prince, not only by actual sale of the article itself to in dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of Indians in America, with a solemn promise to tiie Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although free to use it in their respective tribes, w’hicli places it in tiie hands of every Indian w’ho rely w’ith, I may say, religious confidence on its cura ble powers Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can be anglisized of the deed given by Wabenoshe, to M. The principles on which it acts are simple and plain. July 29. 839, ts MOFFAT S VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICINES fSHIESE medicines are indebted for their name JL to tli. ir manifest and sensible action in puri fying the spring and channels of life, and enduing them with renewed tone and vigor. In many hun dred certified cases which has been made public, and in almost ever} species of disease to which the human frame is liable, the happy effects of MOFFAT’S LIFE PILLS AND PHENIX BIT TERS have been gratefully and publicly ac knowledged by the persona benefiitted, and who were previously unacquainted with the beauiitully philosophical principles upon which they are compoun led, and upon which they wonsequently act. The LIF EMEDICINES recommend themselves in diseases of every form and description. Their first operation is to loosen from the coals of the stomach and bowels, the various impurities and crudities con-tantly settling around them; and to remove the hardened faeces which collect t convolustons ol the smallest intesunes. Other medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave such collected masses behind as to produce habitu al cosliveness with > 11 its train ofevils. or in a sud den d arrhma, with its eminent dangers. This tact is well known to ad regular anatomists, who ex amine I lie human bowels after death ; and hence the prejudice ol those well informed men against quack medii tnes —or medicines prepared and her laded to the public bv ignorant pi rsons. r J he se cond effect ol the Idle Medicines is to cleanse the kidneys and the bladder, and by this means, the liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which entirely depends upon the regularity of the urinary organs. '1 he blood, which takes its red color from the agency of the liver and the lungs before ii passes into the hea t, being thus purified by them and nourished by food coming from a clean stom ach, courses freely thiotigh the veins, renews every part ol the system, and triumphantly mounts the banner of health in the blooming cheek. Moffat’s Vegetable Lite Medicines have been thoroughly attested, and pronounced a sovereign remedy for Oyspepsia, Flatulency, Palpitation ol the Heart, Lossof Appetite, Heart-bora and Head ache, Restlessness, lil-lemper, Anxiety, Languor and Melancholy, Cosliveness, Diarrhoea, Cholera, Fevers of all kinds, Rheumatism, Gout, Dropsies of all kind, Gravel, Worms, Asthma and Consump tion, Scurvj, Ulcers, Inveterate Sores, Scorbutic Eruptions and Bad Complexions, Eruptive com plaints, Sallow, Cloudy, and other disagreeable Complexions, Salt Rheum, Erysipelas, Common Colds and influenza and various other complaints which afflict the humart frame. In fever and ague, particularly, the Life Medicines have been most eminently successful; so much so that in the Fever and Ague districts, Physicians almost uni versally prescribe them. All that Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is to be particular in taking the Life Medicines strictly according to ihe directions. It is not by a news paper notice, or any thieg that he himself may say in their lavor, that he hopes to gain credit, it is alone by the resuh of a fair trial.
