To Let ts Offon Goelicke, M. D.,|of Germany,
[Europe,] belongs the imperishable hclior of adding
ane w and precious doctrine to the scfmce of medi

by many of the faculty, (of which a valuable
member,) he proves to be as well foiSided in truth ,
as any doctrine of Holy Writ —adoctline, upon the
verity of which arc suspended the li'&s of millions
of our race, and which ne boldly chajbnges his op
posers to refute, viz: Consumption if a disease al
ways occasioned by a disordered sta" of Vis Vitae
(or Life Principle) of the human bofcp; (ry often
secretly lurking in the system foigyears before
there is the least complaint of the Lutgs <£7o—and
which may be as certainly, though upc so quickly,
cured, as a common cold or a simple hs'adache. An
invaluably preciouc doctrine this, asSB ini parts an
importantlesson to the apparently Infinity of both
sexes, teaching them that this msid|>us foe may
be an unobserved inmate of their- 1 c|.yey liouses”
even w-hile they imagine themselvc > secure from
its attacks, teaching them that thegre *t secret in the

This illustrious benefactor of man iy also entitled
to youi unfeigned gratitude, and the gratitude ol a
world, for the invention of his matchless Sanative,
—whose healing fiat may justly claisil lor it such a
title, since it has so signally Uiump|ed over our
great common enemy, fj* Consump ?n, both in
the first and last stages—a medicius which has
thoroughly filled the vacuum in the M teriaMcdica,
and thereby proved itself the Coni uerur of Phy

will have abundant cause to bless i f beneficent
hand of a kind Providence,—a met .cine whose
wondrous virtues have been so glow.i ,ly pourtray

often become the happy instruments o changing de

A certificate from three members of the Medical
Profession in Germany, in El rope.
We, the undersigned, practitioners of medicine
In Germany, are well aware that, b our course,
we mav forfeit the friendship of some of the facul
ty, but not of its benevolent members who are un
influenced by selfish motives, ihou .i we shall
refrain from an expression of our o inion, either
of the soundness or unsoundness of I *r. Goelick s
new doctrine, we are happy to say tjat we deem
his Sanative toe valuable not to generally
known —for what our ey r es behold our ears
hear, we must believe. _
We hereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis Oficn
Goelick first came before the German public, as
the pretended discoverer of a new doctrine and a
new medicine, we held him in the highest con
tempt, believing and openly pronounr ng him to be |
a base impostor ai d the prince oi quae ks. Hut, on
hearing so mucli said about the Sanative, against it
and for it, we were induced, from motives of curi
esity merely, to make trial of its reputed virtues
upon a number of our most hopeless patients; and
we now deem it our bouuden duty (even at the
expense of self-interest) publicly to acknowledge
its eilicacy in curing not only consumption, but
other fearful maladies, which we have heretofore
believed to be incurable. Our contempt lor the .
discoverer of this medicine was at onee swallowed
up in our utter astonishment at these unexpected
results; and, as amends for our abus? of him, we
do frankly confess to the world, that? we believe
him a philanthropist, who docs honor *o the profes
sion, and to our couutiy, which gave him birth.
The recent adoption of this medicine into some
0 our European hospitals, is a sufficient guaranty
that it performs all promises. It lidded not our
p sti:nony, for wherever it is u*cd it Brits own best

COSBY’S DYSPEPTIC
A Late and Valuable Discovery.
PERHAPS mere IS nothing mor - *ctlcvla'ed to
disgust me public eye than the innumerable
advertisements of nostrums that are consiautly ap
pearing in the public prints. All are ready to ex
claim, our souls are sick, our ears are pained with
every day’s reports of ills and specifics This state
of i be public mind would seem to forbid any person
of delicate mind from sending forth any new- dis
coveries in medicine, to the trial of the public.—
Still, motives of delicacy should not prevent us from
making known real discoveries, which we are con
fident will benefit our fellow men. This latter
consideration has prompted the author of these bit
ters to make them known. He know s they are high
ly efficacious, for he himself, his wife, and many
friends, have given them a thorough trial. He was
himself a confirmed dyspeptic,so much, that even
his recollection was gone. By using these bitters
l ( he has been restored to health. Mrs. Cosby was I
troubled for many years, but was restored to health
by the use ol these bitters. This has been the case
with many ol his fri- rids. Mr. Cosby in s riding
forth this adven iscment, addresses those who know
him. He has been for many years a resident of
Augusta at which place he can at any time b?
consulted about the bitters. They are good in all
cases of diseases of the digestive organs, the symp
toms of which are indigestion, pain or oppression
in the stomach from food, lossol appetite, flatulen
cy, heart bum, giddiness in the head, pain in the
side, shortness ol breath, lassitude, geneial weak
ness, disturbed sleep, &c The composi ion is en
tirely Botanical, and has proved efficacious w hen
many celebrated medicines had failed. In support
of which he refers thvmto Freeman VV. Lacy, she- j
riff of Richmond count', and William T. Tliomp- i
son, editor of the Au.usta .Mirror, and he might re
fer you to many others, but deems it unnecessary
as he is willing to place it on its ow n merits. All

Radical Cure ol Hernia or Rupture, by Dr.
Chase’s improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
riAHE subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
I store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson & Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments. He has now used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
atfcction, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who arc in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee ol the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of i)r. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by- those who wearother
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by- the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The following is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ Ail must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses arc decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate,from some respons£
ble person, of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable
to every variety of reducible rupture,

TO THE FACULTY AND HEADS OF
FAMILIES.
~|"|R. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
& P TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
does not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx
iously looked lor, some one in almost the extreme
North has advertised a Tomato Pill, purpoitingu
be made from the stalk, a thing not more ausuiu
than for one to offer meal from the corn stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they arc all that they
profess to be, and will do for otheis what they
have done for such as mav have u»ed them ; as
Jus is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow aie just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind ; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute. It has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it
ascertain*.- j mat .ney comaiueu alterative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for Uie reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the
day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a
mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato
Pill, of which a supply, we learn, will soon be ir.

ANTI-BALSAMIC GONORRHCEAL SOLUTION,
Warranted to cure in Five Days.
incomparable and invaluable remedy so
-*- known, and used with such unparralleled
success in the Canadas for the last 30 ycais, ap
pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon the
human system is such that it invariably acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success Inch has attended it through all of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
same su .ess which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians.—
Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
| success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, 1 may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
; be anglisized of the deed gi>-?n by Wabenoshe, to
M. Chcverct, when he purchased the original recipe,
1 and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

is to subdue every vestige of inffamation, and then
acts mildly and copiously as a diuie.ic; thercbj

The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”
is in this, that wherever it alone has been used to
affect a cure, none of those tenacious and disagree •

effect than that of swindling the public; and to
give a yet more plausible appearance of the r ra

lor a number of years; whereas, until the illustrious
Dr. Riagnin made bis wonderful discovery, no cure
lor barrenness had been ever thought of, or at least
made public; and all those then in use for the
restoration of the decayed virile powers were found
to be of hut little avail. Tints, a;l nostrums -adver

Dr. Mognin's, are mere catchpenny humbugs,
which would never have been thought of out for

present in circulation, it may in general be a suffi

well to notet tat its natn , Lucina Cordial, or Elixir

HERMITAGE EXTRACT. —This lately in
vented combination of delightful odors, has
acquired a just popularity, not only by reason ol
the strength and delicacy, but of the extraordina
ry duration of its perfume. Whilst the strength of
many other extracts and essences is almost as eva
nescent as the bloom of the flowers from which
they are derived, tlie Hermitage retains its fra
grance for an in elinite length of time, and is
scarce to be removed from the garment on which it
is poured, by washing; hence it is probably the
cheapest and most delightful perfume of our labora
tories.
Also, Cologne, Lavender. Orange, Florida and
