We, the undersigned, pracliti bers of medicine
In Germany, are well aware th i, by our course,
we may forfeit the friendship ot ome of the facul
ty, but not of its benevolent mer rers, who are un
influenced by selfish motives. hough we shall
refrain from an expression of c r opinion, either
of the soundness or unsoundaes of Dr. Goelick s
new doctrine, we are happy to : y that we deem
his Sanative too valuable not to be generally
known —for what our eyes be. 4d and our ears
hear, we must believe. ! .
We nereby sta e, that vrhel Dr. Louis Offen
Goelick first came before the («?rman public, as
the pretended discoverer of anti; doctrine and a
new medicine, we held him icßthe highest con
tempt, believing and openly prorluncing him to be
a base impostor at d the prince ojljuacks. But, on
hearing so much said about t ? sjiative, against it
and for it, we were induced, ironPmotlves of curi
osity merely, to make trial of i|s reputed virtues
upon a number of our most hopeiiss patients; and
we now deem it our bounden '«4y (even at the
expense of self-interest) public* to acknowledge
its efficacy in curing not only Consumption, but
other fearfuVmaladies, which wl have heretofore
believed to be incurable. Ourl.onterapt for the
discoverer of this medicine was 1 once swallowed
up in our utter astonishment atihese unexpected
results ; and, as amends for our Aousc of him, we*
do frankly confess to the world, [hat we believe
him a philanthropist, who does lit or to the profes

The recent adoption of this in iicine into some

COSBY’S DYSPEPTIC
BITTERS
A Late and Valuable Discovery*
PERHAPS tbere is nothing .■no*’ calculated to
disgust tne public eye than the innumerable
advertisements of nostrums that are constantly ap
pearing inthe public prints. All are ready to ex
claim, our souls are sick, our ears are pained with
every day’s reports of ills and specifics This slate
ot the public mind would seem to forbid any person
of delicate mind from sending forth any new dis
coveries in medicine, to the trial of tha public.—
Still, motives of delicacy should not prevent us from
making known real discoveries, which we are cun
fidetit will benefit our fellow men. This latter
consideration has prompted the author of these bil
lers to make them known. He knows they are high
ly efficacious, for he himself, his wife, and many
friends, have given them a thorough trial. He was
himself a confirmed dyspeptic, so much, that even
his recollection was gone. By using these bitters
he lies been restored to health. Mre. Cosby was
troubled for many years, but was restored to health
by ihe use of these bitters. This has been the case
with many of Ins frit rids. Mr. Cosby in sending
forth this advenisement, addresses those who know
him. He has been for many years a resident ol
Augusta at which place he can at any time b«
consulted about the billers. They are good in all
cases of diseases of the digestive organs, the symp
toms of w hich are indigestion, pain or oppression
in the stomach from food, lossot appetite, flatulen- !
cy, heart iiurn, giddiness in the head, pain in the
side, shortness of breath, lassitude, general weak
ness, flisluibed sleep, <fec The composition is en
tirely Botanical, an.l has proved efficacious when
many celebrated medicines had failed. Insupport
of which he refers thereto Freeman VV. Lacy, she
riff of Richmond count'*, and William T. Thomp
son, editor ol the Augusta Mirror, and he might re
fer you tc many others, but deems it unnecessary
as lie is willing to place it on its own merits. All
he ust:s is lor tnose who are afflicted with tne dys
pepsia. to give it a trial.

Radical Cure olllerma or Rupture, by Dr*
Chase’s Improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
FE’IH E subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
I store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson & Co., fortba
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustiy celebrated instruments. He has now used
them for nearly a year, and, didnot delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee ot the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wearctlier
trusses ; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The following is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and than Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet iuve nted to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting compiaiht, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate, from someresponsi'
ble person, of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable
to every variety ol reducible rupture,

TO THE FACULTY AND HEADS OF
FAMILIES.
DR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
does not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx
iously looked for, some one in almost the extreme
North has advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting U
be made from the stalk, a thing not more ausuru
than for one to offer meal from the corn stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato
so far Nc rth.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they
profess to be, and will do for othets what they
have dune for such as mav have used them ; as
.his is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
doubtless be valuable information to families to
♦ know Hist the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind ; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute. It has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it
ascertain* j mat ..iey contained alterative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do :he one thousand and one cure-alls of the
day. If }ou wish to cleanse the system with a
mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato
Pill, of which a supply, we learn, will soon be in
his city. We ali nnow something aoout tnis.

ANTi-BALSAMIC GONORRHOEAL SOLUTION,'
H arranted to cure in Five Days.
incomparable and invaluable remedy so
A long known, and used with such unparralleled
success in the Canadas for the last 30 yeais, ap
pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon the
human system is such that it invariably acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success Inch has attended it through all of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
same su cess which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenothf., or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians.—
Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
I free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by Wabenoshe, to
M. Cheveret, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit tlie length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”
is in tiiis, that wherever it alone has been used to
affect a cure, none of those tenacious and disagree

under various names, and purporting to produce the
same efect; but which, in reality, produce no other
effect than that of swindling the public; and to
give a yet more plausible appearance of the r cu
pidity, those persons affect that their wretche i nos
trums have been in use in England and elsew here
lor a number of years; whereas, until ihe illustrious
Dr. Magnin made his wonderful discover}', no cure
for barrenness had been ever thought of, or at least
made public; and all those then in use for the
restoration of the decayed virile powers were found
to be of but little avail. Thus, all nostrums adver
tised fur barrenness or the cure of impolency, but
Dr. 31agnin’s, are mere catchpenny humbugs,
which would never have been thought of out lor
the appearance and great celebrity of the LUCINA

Cordial, but as further assurance, it would be as
well to note fiat its nam , Lucina Cordial, or Elixir

combined arms ol France and the United States
are on the outward envelope—that a Fleur de Lis
is printed on the accompanying directions, and
beautifully embossed on the show-bills hanging in
the stores ol those who have the genuine article

The celebrity of the Lucina Cordial being such
as it is, it is scarcely necessary to add that it is the
only efficient remedy for barrenness, and the resto

that in the cure of Fluor Albus, Gleet, obstructed,

acquired a just popularity, not only by reason of
the strength and delicacy, but of the extraoidina- -
ry duration of its perfume. Whilst the strength of
many other extracts and essences is almost as eva
nescent as the bloom of the flowers from which
they arc derived, the Hermitage retains its fra
grance for an indefinite length of time, and is
scarce to be removed from the garment on which it
is poured, by washing; hence it is probably the
cheapest and most delightful perfume of our Jabora- 1
lories. *
