We, the undersigned, practitioners of medicine in Germany, are well awaje that, by our course, we may forfeit the friendship of some of the facul ty, but not of its benevolenj.members, who are un influenced by selfish motives. Though we shall refrain from an expressioh lof our opinion, either of the soundness or unsounjlness of Dr. Goelick’s new doctrine we are happy to say that we deem his Sanative too valuable not to be generally known —for what our eyes behold and our ears hear, we must believe. , Wc hereby sta e, that |. r hen Dr. Louis Often Goelick first came before tie German public, as the pretended discoverer of I new doctrine and a new medicine, we held hiit in the highest con tempt, believing and openly Ironouncing him to be a base impostor i d the printfe of quacks. But, on hearing so much said about tl|e Sanative, against it and for°it, we were induced, Lorn motives of curi osic merely, to make trial If its reputed virtues upon a number of our most hlipeless patients; and we now deem it our bo u odel\ duty (even at the expense of self-interest; puilicly to acknowledge its eiiicacy in curing not orly consumption, but other fearful maladies, whicll we have heretofore believed to be incurable. Ujfr contempt for the discoverer of this medicine wis at once swallowed up in our utter astonishmentlat these unexpected results; and, as amends for olr abused him, we do frankly confess to the wold, that we believe him a philanthropist, who doelhouor to the profes slcn, and to our country, whiettgave him birth. The recent adoption of thi linedicine into some o our European hospitals, is ;l sufficient guaranty that it performs all promises! It needed not our csrimoay, for wherever it is u|id it is its own best wi ness. HERMAN EiVIULLER, m. d. WALTER YAW GAULT, m. d. ADULPiIJS \| ERNER, M. D. He has now used them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid, he could name several persons who have been radi cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many others who are in a fairway of being entirely re lieved. The following is the language of the com mittee ol the Philadelphia Medical Society on the Radical Cure of Hernia. “ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected the permanent and accurate retention of the in testines in every case of Hernia observed by the committee, without material inconvenience to the patient, and often under trials more severe than are usually ventured upon by those who wearolher trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any other apparatus known to the committee.” “ The committee are induced by the foregoing conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of the profession, as the best known means of me chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the highest chances of radical cure.” The fofiowing is from the Southern Medical and Southern Journal, published in our own city. “ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia, and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best yet invented to effect the object.” Persons from a distance can have the instruments applied, upon application at tke office, and all ne cessary information given to enable them to adjus it themselves.
