CITY TAXES—LAST NOTICE.
, FIN HE City Council, at its last regular meeting,
1 made it my duty to proceed immediately to
the collection of all taxes due on the Digest of the
present year, or in the event of its not being done
by tiie first day of November next, to cause exe
cutions to be isssurd in every case of default, of
which all concerned will lake due notice, as after
that date executions will be placed in the hands of
the City Marshal, with instructions to collect with
out delay", the several amounts due with the addi

SCHOOL NOTICE.
THE subscriber will continue his School at the
new dwelling on Walker street, and hopes
that the distance to his place will not be an objec
tion with any lady or gentleman who may be kind
ly disposed to patronize him. He will pledge him
, self to prepare youth for Franklin College, or any
othei College in the Union, in Classics and in the
: minor branches of Mathematics, and should a suffi
cient patronage be extended to him, he could secure
the services of a gentleman of well known ability
in Mathematical sciea> e. In reference lo the sub
scriber himself, he has had charge of Schools and
Academies in this State during a period of ten
years, and begs leave to refer, if necessary, to Col.
Thomas N. Hamilton of Athens, and the Rev.
j Juiia i Harris, before whom he had been examined
by a classical gentleman of the Noith, before he !
could be admitted to take the Rectorship of tne i
Columbia County- Academy, which he had for three |
years. Should a ciass of eight or ten young men 1
be found, he could devote two hours to their in I
struction each day, at a time that would nut inter- j
sere with his School. There are three things con- .
uected with the Classics, which is almost, if not.
totally neglected in our Southern Seminaries, viz: ,
Mythology, Latm Exercises, and Prosody, without j
which, the Scansion of Pentameter and Hexameter [
Verse cannot be acquired.
'I he first quarter’s tuition will be required at
entrance, and the scholastic year will be the same !
as that of the other Seminaries of the city.
At a future lime should his patrons desire his
coming to a more convenient place, he will comply
t with their wishes, ir he meets wita sufficient pa

He is about SO years old, 6 feet high, inclines to

large whiskers, lie had on, when he left, a blue
twilled homespun coat and osnaburg pantaloons.
He sometimes calls himself Joshua Bush, having
formerly belonged to a family by that name, near
the Lower'lhree Runs, in the State of South Car
olina. Joshua is well known in the city of Sa
vannah, on the Savannah rivet, and in Augusta,
Ga., where he is aiming to get; and fiom there,
very probably, he will make his way *.o Charles
ton, S. C. I have some reason to believe he has a
forged pas«.

per, PE I'ER, a buy about 30 or 32 years
of a £ e > dark skin, high cheek benes, rath
er small eyes, stoops a little, about 5 feet 10 inches
i high, legs a little inclined to bow, and feet turn a
j littie out, and would weigh p.chaps 156 lbs., broad
shoulders and very strong, a. Cooper by trade; was
severely whipped about six months since, and
probably retains the marks on his shoulders ai d
thighs, nas a downcast look, is very humble to ap
; pearance in disposition, speaks rather low, and can
read tolerable well. Had on when he left, 1 think,
a blue broadcloth coat, second hand, and a white
hat of an inferior quality, and black pantaloons;
while at work, is very intent and labors very
hard —was purchased about 10 years since, from
a Mr. Williams, of Wilmington, North Carolina.
Twenty-five dollars Reward will be paid for
the apprehension of said boy, if taken within the
State, and fifty dollars if taken out of the State.
One hundred dollars wi 1 be paid for proot to the
conviction of any Whiteman having inveigled him

in Morgan county, near Park’s Biidge, on
theGconee river, my negro man Nelson,
about twenty five years of age, six leet
high, well proportioned, a li; tie yellow, of a goad
countename, high forehead, his upper eyeteeth
decayed, which is easily perceived when he talks
or smiles, and has tittle to say- unless spoken to. —
He left my premises cn the 9th of August, and
wore off a pair of homespun nankeen pantaloons,
and took off with him a pair of blue Kentucky
jeans, and a cloth cap. Nelson is a tolerable black
smith, and fond of gambling, and is sure, if taken
up, to deny his name and his owner’s name, as he
has runaway twice before. Once I got him out of
Augusta jail, and once from Charleston, S. C. I
purchased him from Benj. Davis in Hamburg. —
Any information will be thankfully received, and
the above reward will be paid for his lodgment in
anv jaii so tout I get him.

lower market in the city of Augusta, will be

nah River, in Edgefield District, S. C., known s
Horse Creek, about a mile and a half below Au
gusta, containing 804 acres, agreeably to plat, a
considerab.e portion of which is fertile, low
grounds and Isinglass lands. There is a Flat and

tation of Mr. Watley, on the Georgia side, directly
opposite.

CHANGE OF HOUR.
The Passenger Train, carrying the great mail
between New York and New Orleans, leaves Au
gusta every day at 6 p. m., and arrives at Greens
boro at 1 a. m. Leaves Greensboro at 9f. m., and
arrives at Augusia at half past 4 o’clock, a. m.
Stages run in connection with this train from
Greensboro for New Or.eans, (two daily lines) via
Indian Springs, Columbus, Montgomery and Mobile;
for New Orleans, tri-weekly, via Clinton, Macon,
and Pensacola; for West Point and Wetumpka, via
Barnesville, tri-weekly; for Rome, tri-weekly via
Covington, Decatur and Marietta; for Nashville
and Knoxville, Tennessee,tri-weekly, via Athens,
Gainesville and Cassville; for Washington, W'ilke
county, tri-weekly, from Double Wells ; for New
Orleans, daily, from Warrenton, via Sparta, Mil

The Proprietors of this Line inform the Travel
ling public that it is now in full operation, through
the entire route ; leaving Augusta by the Georgia
Rail Road cars to Greensboro’ every Tuesday
Thursday and Saturday, at 8 o’clock, P. M. and ar
rive in Mobile in three days and a half running
time.
Travellers are assured that the staging upon this
line is superior to any other, the accommodations
unsurpassed, and by far the best natural roads in
the Southern cauntry, only 210 miles of staging.
Stages leave Bainbridge for Tallahassee via Quin
cy, immediately on the arrival of the Alligator
Line from Greensboro’, and immediately on the
arrival of the boats from lola.
Two Stages will at all times be run in com
pany, when the travel requires it.
