riTHK Jlayor wishes to express to the diffment
Fire Companies of the City his approbation of
the promptitude with which they repaired to tne
fire of yesterday, and the energy and activity dis
played until danger had been entirely dissipated.
Such conduit is highly to be approbated, as in its
resuits are to be found the greatest«.saleg .ards
against serious or extensive injury from accident
or incendiarism.
The locality of the fire likewise brought forward
in full force tiie necessity of urging attention to j
tHat clause of the 2nd section of the General Ordi
nance w hich relates to the requisition of draymen
appearing witir casks of water at every fire. —
Whilst ibe Ordinance offers a reward for the faith
ful performance of this duty, it provides also a pen- |
ally for it*- neglect. The engines yesterday had to |
depend entirely upon the supplies thus brought for- j

reward for their attention, it is but just that those j

j In any case lids will be carried out.
