Since the receipt of the accounts by! the Acadia
and President our Cotton market has txen extreme
ly inactive, the sales since the 27th int amount
ed to tnciely 4,000 bales, at prices wh>i h were ev

evinced an increased disposition to .-ealize, but
purchasers not being willing to opiate unless
some concessions were made, sellers submitted to
a reduction of ic., at which rales -..bout 2,200
bales changed hands. This decline is more partic

they art- alter d accordingly. We givj<? particulars

Molasses. —Small sales of new molasses are ef

Flour. — Ihe transactions in the Flour market
during the last three days have been on a very
limited scale, owing mainly to the light receipts
which has induced holders to ask an advance on
former rates, which Urey have partially succeeded
in obtaining. About 1,090 barrels of very choice
Cincinnati brands were disposed of tin* morning
$5, all for city consumption. At jhe present
prices there is naturally no demand for export, and
buyers are deferring their purchases until the mark

30 or 40 flat boats of this article arc expected to
arrive within the next week, and should they
come in as is anticipated, a decline on the present I

HAMILTON’S BLUER OF OPIUM7
A new and important Discovert/.
IT has long been a great desideratum in Medical
•Science, and lias been the subject of a vas
a mount of Chemical experiment, to obtain theme
dicinal qua itics of Opium to the exilusicn of il s
noxious principles and use'ess comidnations. No
article in the whole range of the Pharmacopoeia is
perhaps of greater importance to mankind ; and
none which lias engaged a greater share of chemi
cal attention. Every preparation hitherto made
from this drug, whether in the form of Extract,
Morphia, Black Drop, Paragoric. or Laudanum,
contains in close combination a poison with the an
tid te, and hence we find the administration of
them attended with a numerous train of evils,
among which arc headache, lassitude, tremors,
nausea, vomiting, constipation, derangement of the
nervous sy stem —and a quality wonderfully predis
posing the system t* its habitual use; to obtain
therefore the Soothing Opiate and Anti-Spasmodic
Anodyne in all its virtues, separate from the dele
terious principles of the drug, has for a series of
years engaged the profound attention of the author ;
it presented itself to his mind as a subject of great
magnitude; the acquisition to the medical faculty
of so important a rcmc.lial agent, and the incalcu
lable amount of human misery that would be alle
viated by the discovery, have been to him a sure
guarantee that lie would reap a rich reward for his |
labors, at least in self-gratulation. Having satis
factorily tested the Elixer in several hundreds of
instances, lie has now the happiness of say ing to
the public that bis labors have been crowned with
triumphant success. J. HAMILTON,M. D.

many, who fory cars have been unable to Jay down
in their beds without a danger of being choked by
an accumulation ol phlegm, (wnich invariably*

culty could breathe at all in a recumbent posture,

“THE MATERNAL FRIEND”
’ TS one of those invaluable remedies that stands
I the lest if trial. In every instance that has
come to the knowledge of the proprietors, it has
proved itself to be what it is recommended —a
pleasant, safe, and efficacious remedy for all the
sympathetic affections attendant on Pregnancy,
. and all those periodical disorders to which both
; married and unmarried females are liable. Delicacy
forbids giving the details of its merits in a news
paper advertisement, but it may be stated that it
lias been in use under various names —(The Philo
token, Mother's Relief, SfC..) for some ten years
past, and wherever introduced, the demand for it,
(without the aid of “ putting,”) has been constant
ly on the increase. This lad in evidence of its
1 real virtues, together with the belief that hundreds
of females arc sull'ciing from want of the know
ledge of a remedy adapted to their cases, induce:
[ the proprietors respectfully to call the altentior
of sulicreis to their pamphlets, which accompany
each battle, and which may be Lad gratis of anj
