Prospectus of a New Work to be entit d
GEORGIA ILLUSTRATED
IN a series of original pictures, on steel, w th let
ter press descriptions. The plan of pul ishing
in successive numbers pictorial works, iilu; rative
of the sceeerjr of countries, has long been popu
lar one in Europe, and is rapidly gaining 1 yor in
oui own country.
The proposition to issue such a work, deleted to
the scenery of G?oigia, although novel, wfll find
universal favor, and he regarded as itri by tl£ Edit
or, a plan at once felicitous and feasible, ti'here
is much scenery in our State, that is not su iassed
in beauty and sublimity, by tiiat of any otlu Stale
in the Union. The upper counties ab undin .ones,
which need only be known to command tin admi
ration ol all who love the beauties 01 na ire. —
Much of the scenery of the North is inferiot o our
own, but is yet visited by thousands simply I icause
it has been written sung and “ lionized ,” au
thors and travellers until its beauty lias ; co :;e
universally known and appreciated. It is de liable
that attention should be directed to our own .
ces of picturesque in natural scenery, and when
this is done, our own and Northern tourism will
speedily render our beautiful views as imrm lal as
our language.
The South is charged with general indifl rence
to the progress of Literature and Fine An ; and
probably the strongest foundation for the cl ;rgc is
found in her inaction in enterprise calculated [o fos
ter these objects. The publication of the | opos
ed work will it is believed, be an ett’eclivt ,blow
at the foundation, a step towards theestabli uncut
of our literary reputation, to which end muc ’ hon
orable effort is now directed. |
A third consideration and the last whic2 will
now be urged, is the intrinsic value of such' lubri
cation as Georgia Illustrated.” It will nobo
dy the representations of the beautiful and s brirae
in our State scenery, and afford to all, at a riding
expense, exact pictures of our mountains, \ 'dries,
cataracts, public buildings, 6tc., which they ; ay or
may not otherwise behold, but which, in eitht ; case,
would afford peculiar pleasure.
The proposed work will be executed in a style
to any similar pictorial work in tht :oun
try. The plates will be executed on steel I ' em
inent engravers, from original drawing, ma e ex
pressly for the purpose, by Mr. T. Addi-on Kich
ards, of Augusta. The engravings will be ; com
companied with letter press descriptions, pr oared
for the work, and in this department the ditor
will secure, as far as possible, the assistant ' and
co-operation of our best writers. In short, m pains
will be spared to make thd work a perfe> t ; itn of
the kind, to the end that it may meet a wc eome
.reception not only at home but also abroad.
CONDITIONS.

MOFFAT’S VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICINES M
medicines are indebted for their name 1
I to thi ir manifest and sensible action in puri
fying the spring and channels ot life, and enduing pi
them with renewed tone and vigor. In manv hun- J
dred certified cases which has been made public,
and in almost every species of disease lo which w

MOFFAT’S LIFE PILLS AND PHKNiX BIT
TERS have been gratefully and publicly ac- q<
knowledged by the persons beneliitted, and who
were previously unacquainted with the beautifully
philosophical principles upon which they are p
compoun led, and upon which they sonsequenlly
act.
The LIFE MEDICINES recommend themselves
in diseases ot every form and description. Their
first operation is to loose.! from the coals of the
stomach and bowels, the various impurities anti
crudities con-tantly settling around them ; anu to v
remove the hardened faeces which collect
conversions of the smallest intestines. Oilier '
medicines only partially cleanse those, and leave P
such collected masses behind as to produce habitu
al cosliveness with 11 ilstrain of evils, or in a sud
den diarrhoea, with its eminent dangers. This fact
is well known lo ail regular anatomists, who ex
amine the human bowels after death ; and hence
the prejudh e of those well informed men against
quack medicines—or medicines prepared and her- 1
laded to the public bv ignorant p< rsons. 'J he se- 1
coiid effect of the idle Medicines is to cleanse Die s
kidneys and the bladder, and by this means, the c
liver and the lungs, the healthful action ol which r
entirely depends upon the regularity ol Die urinary c
organs. The blood, which takes its red color from ‘
Die agenev of Die liver and the Jongs before it 1
passes into the hea t, being tnus purified by them -
and nourished hy lood coming from a clean slom- j
ach, courses Irrely through the veins, renews every ]
part of Die system, and inumphanlly mounts the
banner of health in Die blooming cheek.
Moffat’s Vegetable Lile Medicines have been I
thoroughly attested, and pronounced a sovereign «
remedy lor Dyspepsia, Flatulency, Palpitation of (
the Heart, Loss of Appetite, Heart-bora and Head
ache, Restlessness, 111-temper, Anxiety, Languor ;
and Melancholy, Cosliveness, Diarrhoea, Cholera,
Fevers of all kinds, Rheumatism, Gout, Dropsies
of all kind, Gravel, V\ otrns, Asthma and Consunip i

which afflict the hurrar frame, in fever and
ague, paiticularly. Die Life Medicines have been
inosteiniriemly successful ; so much so that in the
Fever and Ague districts, Physicians almost uni
versally prescribe them.
All ihai Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is
to be particular in taking the Life Medicines strictly
according lo the directions. It is not by a news
paper notice, or any thu g that he himself may say !
in their lavor, that he hopes to gam credit. It is
alone by the result of a lair :riai.

HEADACHE, SICK OR NERVOUS.
The extraordinary reputation that Dr Spohn’s
remedy lor this distressing eumpaint is every day
gaming is certainly a matter ol much astonishment,
That so m ich sutlering should have existed for ages
without any discovery ol an effectual preventiv;, or
cure,is truly'a subject ot much regret but Dr. S.
now assures Die public that such a remedy has been
invented as will convince the most.credulous. The
.vrmcipies on which it nets are simple and plain. It is
an a milted fact that this comptanil, whether called
Sick Headache,or Nervous Headache, arises prim
arily from the stomach—those who ihink they have
the Nervous Headache may rest assured that this
organ, Die stomach, is Ihe first cause, that th • sys
tem has become vitiated or debilitated, through the
stomach, and that only through the same channel
must they expects restoration ol the natural and
healthy functions oi the system. This object, Dr
Spohn’s remedy is eminently calculated to attain.
The truth of this position cannot be controverted
and ilie sooner sufferers with ihe headache become
convinced of it, ihe sooner will their suffering end i
in restoration of health. Dr. Spobn pledges his
professional reputation on this fact. Tne remedy
may be had ol apothecaries generally throughout
the United Stales.
