by many of the faculty,Sol which he is a valuable

as any doctrine of Holy Iv lit—a doctrine, upon the
verity of which are suspinued the lives of millions
of our race, and which Id baldly challenges his op

We, the undersigned, j| aijtitioners of medicine
In Germany*, are well aW|.rw that, by ourcouise,
we may forfeit the friend *ii •• of some oi the facul
ty, but not of its beuevole|t members, who are un
influenced by* selfish motive'. 1 hough we shall
refrain flora an expressiol el ouv opinion, either
of the soundness or un oi*iclncss ol Dr. Gocliek s
crew doctrine, we are hapjby to say that we deem
Bis Sanative too valuabt* not to be generally
known —for what our ey*;s behold and oui eais
hear, we must believe. |
We hereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis (men
Goelick first came before|the German public, as
the pretended discoverer q new doctrine and a
new medicine, we held Jins in the highest con
tempt, believing and open a- pronouncing him to he
a base impostor ;« u the picnae of quacks. But, on
Bearing so much said abou tile Sanative, against it
nd for it, we were inducevl, from motives of curi
sitc merely, to make trie I d its reputed \ iitues
upon a number of our mo- , hopeless patients; and
we now deem it our butij [den duty (even at the
expense of self-interest) juiplicly to uckuuw ledge
its efficacy in curing noti oily consumption, but
other fearful maladies, wl'lcfe we have heretofore
believed to he incurable? Our contempt for the
discoverer of this medicinl vfas at once swallowed
up in ouv utter astonishn -m; at these unexpected
results; and, as amends sot 'jur abuse ol him, we
do frankly* confess to the |vc rid, tliat we believe
him a philanthropist, who foes honor to tlie protes
si( n, and to our country, vvliich gave him birth.
The recent adoption ol ictus medicine into some
0 our European hospitals 5.s ;a sufficient guaranty
that it performs all promjftev. It needed not our

A Bate ami Valuable Discovery.
Perhaps tnere is nothing rirr* 1 c°!c”!ated to
disgust the public eye titan the innumerable
adviTiisements ol nostrums that are constantly ap
pearing in the public prints. All are ready to ex
claim, our souls are sick, our ears are pained with
every day’s reports of ills and specifics. This slate
ol the public mind would seem to forbid any person
of liMicate mind from sending forth any new dis
coveries in medicine, to the trial of the public.—
Still, motives of delicacy should not prevent us from
making known real we are con
fident will benefit our felJownffien. This latter
con.-idoraiion has prompted rhe author ol these bit
ters to make t hem known. He know s they are high
ly efficacious, for lie himself, his wife, and many
friends, have given them a thorough trial. He was
himself a confirmed dyspeptic,so much, that even |
his recollection was gone. By using these bitters '
he has been restored to health. .Mrs. Cosby was
iron ded lor many years, but was restored to health :
by the use ol these bitters. This has been tiieca.se I
with many of ins fru mis. Mr. Cosby in sending i
foril. this advertisement, addresses those who know i
him. lb- has been for many years a resident oi
Augusta, at which place WT'Cair nt ntnrrmw
consulted about the bitters. They are good in all
casein of diseases of the digestive organs, the syrnp- j
toms of which are indigestion, pain or oppression I
in the stomach from food, lossot appetite, flaluien- i
cy, heart burn, giddiness in tbe head, pain in the i
side, shortness of breath, lassitude, general weak- I
ness, disturbed sleep, «tc The composition is eu- j

many celebrated medicines had failed. In support i
of which he refers them to Freeman \V. Lacy, she- ;

| Radical Cure ol iicniiaoißuptiue, by Dr.
Chase’s Improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
i riIHE subscriber lias opened an office, at the Di ug
1 store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson &Co., for the
1 treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments. He has now used
tlieir for nearly a year, and, did nut delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cared, of this truly distressing and dangerous
affection, by Use useol these Trusses, besides many
| others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
j lieved. The following is the language of the com
i mittee of the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
I “ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
! the permanent and accurate retention of the in-
I testiues in every case of Hernia observed by the
I committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
| are usually ventured upon by those who wearother
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
j conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
! chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
j highest chances of radical cure.”
The following U from the Southern Medical and
i Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
■ and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
i yet invented to effect the object.”
| Persons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application al the office, and all ne
cessary* information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this attlicting complaint, will he treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate, from someresponsi*
hie person,of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable
to every variety of reducible rupture.

DR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF |
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and ;
does not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for Hie reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may

1 kind; many will recollect with what trembling

i how they then wished for a substitute. It has
i long been known that the Tomato contained ca
; thartic principles, but not until of late was it
I ascei tainc i that .aey contained alterative anddiu-

the i reparation most cheerfully, foi - the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the
