Ivvhvm ■; \ novs —I saw it stated in a newspa

are caused by inflammation ; this coincides with ■

\ cured ahno-t every complaint to which it has ,
been piopt iiv apj lied, or lias greatly reiicvcd

I Cancer*.— It has been applied in six cates of
' cancer, five of which it lias cured, and that with
out p.rin ; even the first application did not give
pain, but relief; three of these were very severe,
j and had been of long continuance; the other
two were at the commencement, and to (he sixth
it was applied but once, which brought on a great

As I have a great desire that a knowledge of
this remedy ar.d its effects should peneinte into
those regions were inflammatory complaints are
prevalent, 1 have made and forward this address
in order that the benefits aii-ing from it may bo
known ; and to those who arc residing in or bor- |
dering upon the Turkish empire or Egypt. I beg i
ul them to have propagated, free of expense, in 1
those countries, as I have not the least doubt that
it would cure the plague and inori other inflam
matory complaints, if applied in i.s early stages. 1
Act having seen the plague, I can give no cer
tain rules lor Ms use, but it is always best to begin
with w'a-hing the crown ol the head, and if the 1
throat ai d mouth are sore, gargling tire throat
and washing the mouth, a- we!i a- filling the cars
one after the other, and letting it remain for fif
teen or twenty minutes in each ear. The patient
ought to drink two table spoonfuls, diluted with
hot water, every two or three Hours or even of- '
tenor, as the ca-e may require and also the parts
discolored or inflamed should be fomented with , i
it* _ I i
For those countries where inflammatory fevers
and cholera arc prevalent, the same method of
treatment will do. iSure throats and inflam ia
tion of the brain ere often the accompaniments
of such disorders, and the administration of the
remedy should be prompt and incessant in all pos
sible ways, and it professional gentlemen are not
at hand, no one ought to beafiaid of administer- 1
ing if, as they may be sure it will do no harm.
AH ORES- TO ’IISSIOS Aft I ES.
Missionaries ought to get n knowledge of it.
It is so i ery prompt in its operations in acute com
plaints, such as inflammation in the brain and ,
boweis, that it might be used by them with the
most happy results, in more ways than one.

•• Emnurui'etmitf to the Afflicted.— Our last
number contained a long account of a novel yet
simple medicine (a mixture of hradny and salt.)
strongly recommended by its discoverer, as
a powerful remedy in several dangerous mal
.. l;cs which aill c l the whole human race.—
As the article in question was not the puli lor a
quack nostrum b’i- written by a gentleman with
a view to benefit his fellow creatures, we readily
gave it insertion, and are now glad of having
been the means of increasing its publicity, as we
have s nee had an opportunity oi witnessing its
eflicacy, in a case wherein thelifc of the patient
sc.-med to b> in immin iif peril. A young man
who had resided for sen e time in this island,
went to d'outh Carolina three years ago with the
i intention of settling in that State, where all his j
| friends reside ; iml a s out her r climate not agree
ing with his constitution lie returned to Douglas j
about a month since, apparently labouring under !
a confirmed eon-umyition. in the hope of beneiit- j
ting by the change ot air. Having read a deserip- j
tion of the aiiovc'naincd medicine, lie began lu
give it h trial, and alter j»er .veiing according to {
the prescription *>r nearly tliree weeks, all the
consumptive sv<tcin- vanished, and he became so
grca»|c improved Lot!i in healfli ami appearance
that lie is now actually preparing for his return
to America : nut with tu> <ic mign of fixing in a
nine *uiubrious part of that rapidly flourishing
country.
In addition !•* Ihe above, wc arc credible infor
med that a highly respectable man residing in
Alhol street, Douglas, has 'oeen effectually cured
of a long-si tnibng erysipelas by the use of the i
above efficacious medicine. Its healing virtues j
have been further tasted in the case of a man in 1
t iLs town Douglas) aflhctetl with a violent spit
tiug 01 blood, who has I evn completely restored
tohrallhl y its a-.miicy. and a female who had
-utiered severely 10. years with an ulcers ed sore
b g. alter u ing itjfor a very limit, d period, has
e'ivcd great benefit fiom its use.
The principal of a res{>ec'able sum in the corn
nude in Livopool, who bad for many years suf
fered from an ul»tinate asthma, on peiusing the I
above article in the Liverpool Standard, was in
duced to try the preparation. He mixed the
brandy and salt in the way described aurve, and
every morninu, Liimedi ilely alter rising from his
bed, be put two table spoonfuls in a wine glass,
aiding a little warm water, and drank it oft'. He j
soon began to experience great relief from it. and,
at the moment ibir- ,s written, (March 11, 1840.)
he is a!most I re fom. the distressing complaint
under which lie had previously labored. This j
gentleman speaks in very high terms of the vir
tues of Brandy and ."ah. and w ishes them to be*
universally known.
H—File fio.se should consist of equal
quantities oi the preparation and hot water; and,
when applied externally as an embrocation for
rhumalism, sprains, ice., it should be used undi
