disgust I tie public eye than me innumerable
advertisements ot nostrums that are constantly ap
pearing in the public prints. All are ready to ex
claim, our souls a>-e sick, our ears are pained with
every day’s reports oi ills and specifics. This state
of the public mind would seem to forbid any person
of delicjite mind from sending forth any new dis
coveries in medicine, lo the trial of the public.—
Still, motives ot delicacy should not prevent us from
making known real discoveries, which weare con l
fident will benefit our fellow men. This latter
consideration has prompted the author of these oil- ]
ters to make t hem known, lie knows they are high
ly efficacious, for he himself, his w ife, and many ■
friends, have given them a thorough trial, lie was :
himself a confirmed dyspeptic, wo much, that even
his recollection was gone. By using these bitters I
helms been restored to health. Mrs. Cosby was 1
troubled for many years, but was re-to red to health !
by the use oft ie.se bitters. This has been the ease
with many of his fri* nils. Mr. Cosby in sending
forth this advertisement, addresses those who know '
him. He has been lor many years a resident ot
Augusta, at which place he can at any time b->

HadicalCnn* oMlerniaorlliipture, by Dr.
ChaspN Improved Surgeons 7 Trusses.
fJUTE subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
1 stove ol Messrs. J. ,L Robertson so Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments. He lias now used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of :his truly distressing and dangerous
affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are na fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee ol the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
ti The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent aud accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wearcther
trusses; trials that w'ould be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committer.”
4i The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The following is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presentintja certificate, from some res ponsi*
ble person, of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are of ail sizes, and applicable
to every variety of redueibU rupture,

Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the

which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg

as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the hapatine, or active principle, and w hen used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind; many' will recollect with w'hat trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute. It has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it

the preparation mud cheerfully, for the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,

The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”
is in this, that wherever it alone has been used to

HERMITAGE EXTRACT.—This lately in- I
vented combination of delightful odors, has i
acquired a just popularity, not only by reason of
the strength and delicacy, but of the extraordina
ry duration of its perfume. Whilst the strength of
many other extracts and essences is almost as eva
nescent as the bloom of the flowers from which
the}' are derived, the Hermitage retains its fra
grance for an indefinite length of time, and is
scarce to be removed from the garment on which it
is poured, by washing; hence it is probably the
cheapest and most delightful perfume of our labora
tories.
