A history' of diseases cannot help being sni
with the rapid increase ol that Cm oftherhood,
diseases arising irom an impure state o
or habit- ot the system :—disease-
issue ; also ot the osseus and g . cUtane
scrofular, cancerous ulcers and obsna disease of
mis eruptions, chrome sore ey es, aua ai .
T bones. The chief cause of their .increase
owim' to their being hereditary, running t Ron
whole families and spreading destruction along
tht ir path. But for all these ills there has a m-w
medicine dawned upon the world ; and n =
to the public this new preparation, "hu <• ,
its object the relief of sulk ring humam.y, n ot
coiucs'ncccssary to state upon what grounds
puts forth its merits and the reasons upon v\ Ilk hi
founds its superior claims to the attention o the.
afflicted, that all who require its use may >
re.iose lull confidence in its restorative w l -•
I Ruth t us introduce our readers more jauacu a..,
: to this new preparation, which has ahcaoy uci u
announced to the public under uu name ot
SAILS SARSAPARILLA. This medicine i-,
I the result of rears devoted to labonous chemical
expeiiments in testing various modes ot incp-i.y
I tion, enabling them to concentrate in the most tih
eic iit form all the medicinal valueoi the true Sm
| saparilla; and they have at last aecompiisaed tlu.-v
mostcie Arabic n suit by means of an jmtirely new,
ing, nious and cosily apparatus. The process
throughout is governed by siiiclly chemical law.-,
so that the essential principles, or tlie principle on
which the restorative virtue of the Sarsapauha de
pt uds, is entirely preserved. This is then combin
ed with other articles, selected wholly from the ve
! actable kingdom, all of whom are the most power
ful purifiers of the blood, which are then concen
trated into a liuid extract ‘that has been found by
cxpeiience to posst ss the important power oi im
niediutely arresting tile progress ot disease and re
stoting the patient to perfect health. Therefore,
those suti’eiingfrom disease arising irom an im
pure state of the blood or habit of the system, such
as obstinate cutaneous eruptions, rheumatism,
chronic sore eyes, or diseases a;i:ing from an in
judicious use of mercury, or iiiipriuietici -s in lit' ,
have only to use this preparation, wliich lias all
combined that can be useful in tlie removal of their
complaints. < Combined with the other advantages
which the preparation possesses, the proprietors
have reaped the experience o. a sei. ntitic gentle
man who resided many ycais in that country
which produces the best, in fact the only true, spe
cies of !Sarsapa;iila. The proptietors, during the
many years they have been engaged in jireparing
it, have tried hundreds of experiments upon the
human syst; m, and have iiad the pleasure ot wit
nessing its happy results in numerous instance s ;
and they were determined not to oiler it to tlie
world until they had become thoroughly convinc
ed of its efficacy. They have now succeeded in
preparing a medicine whose restorative virtues are
without a parallel in the history of medicine,
which fact is fully sustained by the numerous cer
tificates and testimonials of cure of the most uith
cult kinds of disease.
The following cure, at once so remarkable, so
extraordinary as almost to surpass belief, has in
order to place its truth beyond the reach of suspi
cion or doubt, been sworn to, this 3uth day of Au
gust, 1342, before his Hon. Robt. If. Morris, May
or ot the city of New York.
New York, August 23, 1343.
Gentlemen—A tale of misery and woe is mine
to tell, and as memory’ever constant in the task
brings back scenes that have past, 1 shudder at tlie
i picture, and almost wonder, if it is so. For months
stretejied upon a bed of suffering and distress,
racked by the most excruciating pain, dumb with
agony—the only voice that cam from my lips,
the voice of groaning, and my only hope despair.
Often and often while others sh pt in the still hours
of night, 1 have turned my face to the wall and
wished to die.
Although 1 c tood on the brink of eternity, and
the thread of life was nearly severed, yet I si ill
breathed on, the lamp held out to burn; 1 little
thought il would be ever trimmed again, and only
hoped that death would swallow up the flame. My
sickness was first brought on by my imprudently
exposing myself strong current of air while
overheated, which caused a sudden eh of •>< in
spiration. My complaint at first seemed light and
hardly worth while to call a physieian ; but i so.m
began to grow worse, and a physician was called,
who prescribed some pills containing a powerful
preparation of mercury, to be follow ed by sarsapa
rilla root and lignum vita*, made into a tea, vhi -h
1 continued using for several months without in
termission. Soon after taking the mercury, 1 be
gan to feel its poisonous influence. My whole
glandular system became ali'eeted, also the bon s,
. joints and muscles ; lumps formed upon the skin,
n arly as big as an egg, accompanied w iiii intense
burning heat, which kept s\v. Uing until they broke
and discharged matter and blood. These contin
u'd to increase until they covered my whole body.
But this was only the beginning of my afflictions ;
now commenced those torturing pains termed
chronic rheumatism. At times, it seemed as it I
was stretched upon a rack, ami all mv limbs wvre
being tom from each other ; at others, as if sham
: knives ./ere pien ing me at evi-rv point. Themus
i cles of my legs seemed tied in knots, and were as
: Irani as a bone. My distress was now so gn at
that my groanrat night disturbed the whole house
and also some of the families in the adjacent build
ings. 1 had not slept a night since the early part
of December l ist : the only sleep I obtained was a
few hours during the middle of the day, pillowed
up in a chair, ami the eruption had aim fearfully
increased. My face was completely covered with
an extending sore. 1 had now shrunk to a mere
skeleton—the skin and flesh wer» so nN -a-a da
round my thighs that the bones nearly protruded,
• trad the physi ians pronounced mv'easo beyond
the reach ot medicine. Oh, how I \vi-!i d that I
might die.—From my long and protracted illness
