is piracy, has been tried at Baltimore and ac

TjT Agrarian outrages continue to be com

Monday night last a Mr. Bogardus, occupying
a hou*e which he had recently purchased under
a distress warrant, was visited by a party ol

The imports of Specie into New York last
week exceeded the exports. The former were
$26,149, the latter &G,GOO. The New York Cou

exports to the 24th inst, are little overs3,ooo,ooo.
The exports for the month of April, 1844, were
over $3,000,000. Il is therefore probable that
the exports lor this month will fall short about
$509,000 of the corresponding month of last
year.

The August Interest.— The Pittsburg
American says—“ James R. Snowden. Esq.,
Treasurer of the State of Pennsylvania, is now.
in this city. From a conversation with this gen

State debt, can only be partially paid on the first
ot August, and that bills will be issued for the
unpaid part, redeemable out of the first monies
which come into the treasury.
Mr. Ashbel Smith, the Secretary of State of
the Texan Republic, arrived at New York on
Monday last, and departed thence the next day
for Boston. It is said that he is on his way to
England and France, and is to sail in the At

Smith did not pass through this city, and hence
the report, originating in another paper, that he
reached here last week, in company with Mr.
Saligny, the French Charge to Texas, cannot
be true.— Nat. Lit. Ist inst.

DIED-
In Jefferson County, on the 27th ult,, Mr.
: r REormcK J. Rheney, aged 33 years, leaving a
vvi c and three children, to mourn the sad be
reavement of a companion and father.
The subject of this brief notice was a man of
uncommon enterprise, industry and perseverance.
He strugg! cd h ird to acquire a competency of this
world’s goods, to make his family comfortable.
' But although he was taken hence in the meri
dian of life, death did not come upon him un
awares. Ho was prepared for the trying scene.
For he “ knew that if the earthly house of this
tabernacle were dissolved, he had a building of
God. a house not made with hands, eternal in
the Heavens.” The decea cd had been a mem
ber of tho M. E. Chinch for several years, and
enjoyed that religion which is sweeter than life
and stronger than death.
His disease was pneumonia and lasted ten
days, during which, he retained the use of his 1
reasoning faculties and the power of speech un
til within a few hours of his dissolution. He
conversed freely with his family and mends, gave
directions about his tetnpotal affairs, and assured
them he was gains to heaven, leaving a special
request for all his friends to meet him there. —
May his neighbors appreciate his excellencies, 1
and extend all that kindness and sympathy to
; his afflicted widow and orphans, which th< ir pri
■ vation requires. C. B. S****.

J. & P. COATS’ SIX CORD THREAD.
f I manufacturers of this article beg
1 respectfully to infirm the trade and the
public, that they have Iten under »he necessity
of filing bills in Chancery against various par
tiesengaged in manufacturing and sellingfrauuu
lent articles of thread, with their name and style.
In all these cases they have been successful in
procuring injunction, and they now beg to state
that they are resolved to protect their customers,
the public, and their own interests, against this
fraudulent traffic, by prosecuting, without regard
to cost, all parties who are base enough to lend
themselves to such unprincipled dealing in any
shape whatever.
The counterfeit threads in question are gene
rally very inferior three cord threads, running
from 50 to 150 yards in length, although marked
200 yards. The,y are sometimes ticketed with
fictitious labels, varying slightly from the genu
ine mark, such as the following, viz : “1- & B.
Coats,” “J. P. Coats,” J. &P. Goats,” &c.
This is done with the view, at the same time, of
deceiving the public and escaping the penalty
due to deception and fraud. But it has been ex
pressly decided, .in the recent cases on the sub
t. that all imitations of manufacturers’ marks
or labels, intended to deceive, are frauds upon
’ the public, and invasions of the rights of parties,
entitling the parties suing to perpetual injunc
tion, costs and damages. -
